Basically stockholm syndrome. Tedious things are still tedious. WvW and PvP are about the same. Living Story 3 is comparable to HoT moreso than vanilla or LS1/2. So nothing’s really changed, we’re all just hoping PoF isn’t garbage.

Healing Engineer Build

Why the kitten not? Find a guild that isnt about min/maxing crap and have fun. You dont “need” druids or ele healers to beat raids. Yes, they bring all this better and more. But this is very viable, not as “ideal” as Druid but things don’t have to be about speed/min/max/best. PUGS will not be open to this stuff, and I understand that a lot of ppl would be really bad at this engi healer, but if you are competent and know this role, with a guild that’s cool not forcing roles, then great. I always loved a healer engi.

I knew Med Kit was a little subpar, and having never leveled Ranger or Ele past like 20 I didn’t know what I was competing against. But I looked at their kits and healing multipliers and it’s pretty disappointing to see how little attention Engineers have gotten for this. If nothing else, hopefully this thread will bring a little more attention and they can tune the class more in line with other healing builds.

There’s a difference between creating content that may or may not be enjoyable for part of your player base and creating content that deters and alienates part of your player base.

The entire point of raids is that they are intended to be hardcore content. A big reason why the raid team is so efficiency and producing them with high quality is that they only have to design for those interested in that challenge.

If I’m not ready for that, there’s the entire rest of the game for me to play.

So no, raids don’t need difficulty modes; there are players who want them, which is not the same thing.

If we took that logic and said “PoF is going to be a hardcore expansion, intended for the best of the best. If the casuals don’t like it don’t worry there’s tons of other content already in game for them to play!”

Now your expansion fails, people start leaving save the ~5% of “the elite”, profits go down and there’s less resources for you to support new content.

Alarmist? Maybe, but that’s where that train of thought leads. Should someone buy PoF knowing that the raids will be catered to only hardcore players, or will they go to a different MMO where they might be able to raid without as much frustration?

Regardless of whatever opinion you might have, it’s good design and good business to make your content appealing to all members of your player base.

Raids have needed difficulty modes since before their release so that the hardcore players will be have their challenging content, casual players will be able to see/complete content and both could pursue rewards from it. There’s PvP ranks/mmr for a reason right? You don’t start your first fractal at 100 yea? Raids missed out on that and it shows by the toxicity players face.

This mentality has been going on since Teq Rising. While I’d agree the LFG system in its current state is not overly intuitive, when you pidgeonhole content you put out to a very small portion of your player base the game suffers. Content should reach out and pull people in, not alienate them.

Healing Engineer Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Squee Squashington.5189

Squee Squashington.5189

The following is my current Healing build for my Engineer along with brief explanations of why I chose various aspects of it:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdIQJAqelsTh2tY1Vw8Kw6FLGGk4+7/GAXf83ZYAGX+B-TxxGABAcCBoTJob6JWU9nh2fg8HEATK/GHQAsqCqVGChQIYIEChgUA+NzC-e

Gearing Stats
Apothecary:
-The goal of this build is to maximize healing output as much as possible while having the option to offer supplemental DPS and a few boons when healing is not needed. Healing Power is obviously your primary attribute and Condition Damage will benefit your damage from Pistol/Elixir Gun when your group is topped off. The added Toughness will offer some extra survivability from Power-based attacks. You could swap in a few pieces of Magi’s gear if you want more Vitality but the build includes plenty of condition removal so you really won’t need much.

Sigils & Runes
-Superior Sigil of Transference: A must have for maximizing your outgoing healing.
-Superior Sigil of Water: Offers a small AoE heal on a 5 second cooldown. It also scales up from your Healing Power.

-Superior Rune of the Monk: Without question. Maximum Healing Power, %10 outgoing healing from the 6 piece bonus, %15 Boon Duration for your Regens and Elixir buffs, and the self heal from 4 piece scales with Healing Power. You’ll have to run Ascalionian Catacombs for them so Superior Runes of the Water is a solid backup choice if you don’t already have the dungeon tokens.

Weapons
Pistol + Shield:
-Most of the time spent in this build you will be using Med Kit and Elixir Gun. Pistol in main hand synergizes best will Elixir Gun as the traits and bonuses to condition damage and duration will apply to both weapons when healing is less of a priority.
-One could choose Pistol for offhand slot, but if your priority is healing/support the two hard CC effects from shield are ultimately superior over Pistol’s one soft CC from Glue Shot.

Traits
Inventions
-Over Shield: is a nice choice for adding Protection to nearby allies to help them survive. Automated Medical Response is a good alternative. Bandage Self has a very low cooldown anyways but if you want a little extra insurance, it’s a solid choice.
-Mecha Legs: Mobility can be key to both survival and maneuvering mechanics of a fight effectively. Soothing Detonation is a solid secondary choice but it doesn’t scale overly well with healing power.
-Medical Dispersion Field: is the best choice here and can be a significant portion of your healing output. The other two traits are not worth considering for this build.

Alchemy
-Health Insurance: without a doubt. At time of posting Med Kit 2-5 are situational skills and a little clunky to use, but the majority of your sustained healing will be from Med Blaster and this will boost that healing significantly.
-Inversion Enzyme: All three choices for this tier are viable depending on the encounter but the extra boons from this trait will not go unwanted.
-HGH: This will grant nearby party members might when you throw elixirs on them and also procs from Elixir Gun’s tool belt skill Healing Mist as well as Super Elixir (Elixir Gun 5), making it overall the best choice.

Firearms
-Chemical Rounds: A significant boost for your pistol damage.
-Pinpoint Distribution: Increases your party’s Condition Damage.
-Modified Ammunition: The damage boost can add up on elites and bosses. Since this build is healing focused, it’s also low Precision, making this the optimal choice for your support DPS.

Rotation
Healing is adaptive, so while there is no TRUE rotation this will give a general idea of how the build works.

-As I mentioned, Med Kit 2-5 can be awkward and only heal 1 person per pack so most of your time healing will be spend casting Med Blaster.

-Swap into Elixir Gun for Fumigate if condition removal is needed

-Use Super Elixir for a surge of AoE healing, but make sure to swap back into Med Kit after casting so the healing pulses benefit from Med Kit’s 33% outgoing healing trait.

-Use Healing Mist as needed. (While Med Kit is equipped)

-Use Med Pack Drop on cooldown.

-Toss Elixirs on cooldown.

-Elixir U is nice not only for the Stun Break, but because the quickness can speed up Med Blaster spam, increasing its healing output.

-Elixir B can add a little boost to your support DPS but can be swapped out for Elixir C (for condition heavy fights). Elixir R and S are not terrible choices to swap in either depending on your preference.

-You can drop Supply crate as needed or save it when CC is needed. Supply Crate’s Stun + Shield 4 + 5 is three hard CC’s that can put a massive dent in a boss’ Defiance Bar.

Conclusion
Well, that’s pretty much it. If you’ve made it this far thank you for reading this post. I didn’t see much info in the first couple pages on this subforum so I hope this helps someone out. Feel free to comment or give feedback as needed. Happy healing!

Come on Anet, I know you’ve got your hands full with the expansion, but this is exactly the time when a lot of people catch up on the story to prepare for the next expansion. A hotfix for this should be a priority.

Not to mention everyone who boosted a character and have been trying to do the HoT story chain. Add me to the list. This should be a priority. >.>

Finally completed on performance settings, intentionally failing the untethered achievement, and not attacking any vine walls

Did the same.
1.) Set graphics to Best Performance.
2.) Swapped from windowed fullscreen to fullscreen
3.) Intentionally got hit so to lose the Untethered qualifier
4.) Skipped the first 2 walls by jumping around to the right but ended up having to kill the 3rd.
Not sure which of these, if any, got around the crash but I was able to complete the quest. Hope this helps someone.

Why I hated HoT and the mastery system.

Posted by: Squee Squashington.5189

Squee Squashington.5189

Horizontal progression is the illusion of progression, people who support it are a large part of the reason this game is not towering over others at its full potential.

That said, gaining experience for masteries was not what was most annoying, it was acquiring the points to be able to purchase each tier. Sure at first you’re able to unlock the early tiers just by playing through the expansion but eventually it becomes this grindy egg hunt, forcing you to play aspects that you really don’t care for. People justify it by saying, “Well you only have to do it once.”

This game was founded with the principle of “you can play the way you want” and it was said that this expansion was not going to be grindy..

Fool me twice..

Did HoT ruin GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Squee Squashington.5189

Squee Squashington.5189

I’ve always thought people wanting the game to be harder, were steering this game into a ditch. Simply put, an MMO, or any game really, should be fun.

Heart of Thorns for me was basically Cursed shore all over again, 4 whole zones of it, with a new set of living story chapters glazed on top. Back in “vanilla” most players hated Orr. The only reason people even went to Orr outside of map completion or Obi shards was because of Anet’s amazing ability to keep the player base poor which soon ended when people discovered that world bosses and CoF could make them more gold with less effort.

So here we are with Orr 2.0. Meta-events with grindy rewards keep them populated to some extent, but for how long? Ever since the Teq revamp it seems like Anet’s been on a mission to “make the players get better” or to play the way they want you to instead of how you want to.

I loved “vanilla” GW2. I spent a lot of time and money into the game at that time. Leveling/PvE was by far my favorite aspect, but I enjoyed some PvP, WvW, and occasionally dungeons as well. I guess when I heard about the HoT expansion my hopes were that it was going to be more zones and content like I’d enjoyed when first playing the game. Sadly it seems like they really threw their winning formula away.

The simple fact is, nobody wants to drudge through a game. There’s no love or nostalgia for most games that are annoying to play. It’s this design vision that has hurt more MMO’s in the last 5-7 years than helped they retain their player base. I had high hopes for HoT, but after everything GW2 is a completely different game now, one I don’t really find a lot of enjoyment in sticking around for.

You’re right. The game should be fun. I find the HOT zones more fun than the core Tyria zones. Unfortunately no one demographic has a monopoly on what fun is. You assume easier is funner but that’s not true for many. How many? No one really knows.

Assuming the ridiculously easy open world is enjoyable to everyone (particularly when we see so many complaints about how boring leveling is), is a misnomer. Assuming you’re talking for some sort of majority might well be a misnomer too.

It’s true that most people who were playing the game before the expansion hit were probably enjoying the more casual content. It’s also likely true that many who wanted harder content walked away from the game, only to return when HoT launched.

Since neither you or I have the numbers, it comes down to what it’s always come down to. Finding a middle ground between ridiculously hard and kitten easy. Unfortunately the balance is different for everyone.

Make it too easy and you lose a percentage of people. Make it too hard and you lose a different percentage of people. The trick is to make it so that you lose a minimum number of people.

I don’t think HoT is as hard as people are making it out to be, and there were plenty of people complaining when the first Orr was nerfed too. Orr is a joke today. It’s not more fun…for people like me.

You make a lot of fair points, but I can’t take to many of them to heart. I’ve seen it happen in multiple MMO’s where dev’s make the endgame content “challenging” and after the initial hype of “new” content/rewards, people stop playing those aspects of the game, or the game overall. You don’t have to make content “hard(er)” to make it engaging.

I watched as people wanted dungeons to be less of a kitten. They were abandoned and the Dungeons subforum became a cesspool of people wanting to enjoy content and ultimately not being able to. Devs stopped posting in it altogether. It went from people trying to drudge through it, to people selling runs for harder paths (mostly Arah), to practically a ghost town.

Players level in vanilla all the time. Sometime because they “have” to because they want to get a new class to 80, but it’s so easy to get level boosts and tomes anyone who finds leveling boring can skip most/all of it anyways. Many enjoy it just because it’s laidback. People are running the old world bosses constantly, but Temple of Grenth? Not as much. I thought people wanted challenging content? I remember people were furious with Teq and Wurm Trio.

While only a few aspects of the game, it’s almost like a metaphor for everything else “endgame.” Any new players that enjoy the easygoing style while leveling vanilla are going to hit a wall or try to bust through it when they get to HoT. Likewise anyone who left they game feeling it was grindy, unrewarding, or annoying is not terribly likely to come back when there’s new content released, let alone for any nostalgic value.

You’re right, I don’t have the numbers. But I don’t need them to use sound logic. This game’s not new anymore. The initial hype of a new MMO is gone and we’re in the adult phase, and I find it hard to deny that the game’s not continuing to lose steam, especially after the move to Free to play and the mixed to poor reception HoT has received.

Heart and Minds [Final Story Step Bugs]

Squee Squashington.5189

It’s my first time playing through the story, specifically the last chapter of Heart of Thorns, “Hearts and Minds.” I know it’s been out for a long time, but Spoiler Alert if you haven’t made it that far.

First attempt went about as well as you can expect, picked Braham and Canach and stumbled once or twice but made it through all the fights, even the final encounter. After finishing the “final stomp,” the last words I hear are “What have you done?” The game takes over and I’m supposed to arrive at a place where Rhytlock has the next line, but the game boots me.

Lag is one thing, but I very rarely have issues getting disconnected in any game. But I decided to log off for a few hours and try again later in the event that it was me.

Second try picked Braham and Caithe. After defeating Braham’s boss I clicked on the rift and a few moments later another disconnect.

Any one having this issue? What do I even do?!

I haven’t actually found fresh air to be unmanageable. it’s the dagger cele eles that have gotten buffed via burning being OP

Yeh burning needs considerable toning down on ele in particular.

Alright, I’m gonna spoil it then. It’s the burning duration runes and sigil. They increase burning damage by more than 65% (plus more condi power and proc). That’s the secret. The power rune/sigil only increase the damage like 10% (plus more power). Condi build has a big advantage with raw percent increase.

Sigh. Now everyone knows what to run for meta xD.

Nah its not only that at all. That is like when everyone said might was the problem with cele and they nerfed might and it did nothing. Burning itself is too strong and the way elementalist in particular has to apply burning is broken. It has many repetitive burning skills

Because eles have not other condis, the devs should just add torment/confusion/poison to ele class, then it’s balanced to nerf burning ^^

Bleed?

Bleed is weak now though, especially with the small amounts ele has (autos are useless, churning earth never hit anyone, and everything else applies very little).

Autos can maintain 9-10 stacks, and 1k per tick isn’t nothing. Are there improvements that could be made? Sure. But it doesn’t change the fact that burning is out of control.

To hear “mesmer is op” is music to my ears to be honest. It’s not true though.

Mesmers finally being on par has exposed the weakness of some of the other classes that were able to rely on melting an inherently underpowered Mesmer class.

That’s a skill issue the other classes need to cope with.

Mesmer IS op, sounds like you’ve had a “skill issue” for awhile on mesmer, it got buffed to OP monster and you desperately need anet to not nerf it so you can feel like you’re actually good at the game.

Same thing happened with cele, badies were writing forum posts like "hey guys, I went cele engi and I feel like I’m actually good at the game now :P ".

Mesmer IS fine, sounds like you’ve had a “skill issue” for awhile on necro.

Turnabout is fair play. :P

But in all seriousness damage to high for all classes for anyone to offer any detailed constructive criticism on how to appropriately handle any balance issues based on build technique.

Wut?

The real problem with changing your build to combat the current state of burst is that at the end of the day Build Diversity suffers, which will make for a very stale PvP environment.

I disagree because I am running with a Carrion Amulet for hybrid damage and 20k hp. I tossed on Lyssa Runes and Sigil of Accuracy for a little boost to crit chance (about 20%). Meanwhile a lot of traditional style burst from stealth Thieves are running with Marauder Amulets. Then with those Mara thieves we are seeing those choosing between CS and SA and even with SA not all are doing it for passive heals in stealth because some are choosing venom sharing.

Outside of the people being vocal about wanting to go back to the way things were there are people out there trying new things and finding they can finally use weapon sets that were garbage in PvP before because instead of crying about change they looked at is opportunity. Right now, with this shake up PvP is like chaos and many out there are taking the Littlefinger view and seeing it as a ladder instead of a big black gaping pit.

Many people, as you said, are also not very happy, and are being painted into a corner to adapt and not being able to play builds they have previously enjoyed. Compared to the rest of this games history, pvp is pretty much a 1 shot fest. And Anet’s even said they’re going to look into adjusting it between now and HoT.

And as much as I respect Darwin, most if not all extinct species didn’t have the choice to deter or alter their cause of extinction.

We’ll see how the dust settles as they adjust the way damage is right now, but I don’t think blind is any where near OP.

We are still looking at it and considering our options though.

What about implementing a way to track certain currencies on screen or at the bottom of the inventory UI near gold and gems?

1.) Mechanics – Bugs involving pathing and fight mechanics will be fixed. If designers do not overshoot encounter difficulty to begin with, expect immediate buffs. Condition cap will not be fixed nor will conditions effect any non-moving entities (tendrils, prisons, doors/walls, etc).

2.) “Tryhard design”
— A.) Multiple fights will be dps dependant. So any players with condition, hybrid, support or bunker builds will be SoL.
—B.) Dodge or die mechanics will almost certainly be included, thus discouraging, or eventually alienating, new or less hardcore players from content.

3.) Rewards – Time sink. Don’t expect them to not take weeks to acquire. Don’t expect any of them that involve crafting to involve a proportionate amount of required materials.

So what are we left with? Instanced world boss zergs? (5k+ AP, zerkers only plz)

Raids are coming to GW2!

Horrendous time sinks
Two tier player culture of ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’
Elitism
Divisive power structures and player politics within guilds
A narky culture of self obsessed gamers

Because these don’t already exist…

For me, raids are the worst of WoW, so take from that what you will.

However, more Raids’/events like the Marionette would be great.

This.
Based on the attention given to dungeons over the past two years, I’m not going to get my hopes up.

Enchanted map. Bug?

Whoever put this in apprently thinks Sparkfly is a part of Kryta. Got 5 Map Scrap #1’s from Sparkfly (And only #1’s). Stopped going there and after 3 days of doing chest/JP circuits in Metrica, Caledon, Brisban and Mt Maelstrom I got scrap #3 (And only #3 from all the circuits). Not overly convinced it’s RNG anymore.

Good luck to you.

I’ve been running Phantasm build with Fighter Runes, Zerker neck, Sigil of Force & Energy. It’s fairly viable vs minion or condi builds. I just join w/e team has the most Rangers/Warriors and usually win.

I farmed full Celestial to run hybrid shatter with damage from mind wrack, MtD, etc. It does almost the same damage as power shatter build(/w half zerk/half soldier) IF you get bonus damage from torment and IF you get procs from confusion. The real problem is that the bonus damage from torment requires them to be moving and confusion requires them to be attacking so there are several instances where conditions are do less or none of the damage you wanted them to.

While MtD has made condi-shatter more viable. There’s no real advantage from doing 90% damage 3-6 seconds later over 100% damage now, let the fact that this damage is easily negated with utilities/traits that cleanse.

Also what Windwalker said about F2 being twice the cooldown of mindwrack, and IP giving instant access/an extra second of F3 & F4.

Excerpt from the Time Warp nerf.
" In PvP, this speed gives most players almost no chance to react to incoming abilities and allows for massive spike damage in extremely short periods of time."

Confusing Images is pretty underpowered, can we buff that to 14,000 damage too please?

Diving master achievement bugged

Squee Squashington.5189

I had a similar problem when I went through all of them. After searching the internet I found that some of them wouldn’t unlock if you didn’t do one of the dive moves (spin/somersault) during the dive. After painstakingly going through every single dive again I finally got credit. It might or might not be the same issue you’re having but there’s really no way to tell >.> Best of luck to you.

2500g worth of rares and exo’s down the MF today and nothing to show for it… Half of which was gems. Should’ve just placed a buy order for Dawn and used the gems for T6 mats or LS skins.

Hello, I tried a few times in the past couple weeks for this acheivement with no luck, and while I know it was a hidden acheivement, someone in the zerg said it was removed entirely from the game so that it’s not only no longer obtainable, but players that had it also had it removed from their acheivement UI. It this correct?

Dragonite ore - dungeons/fractals

I’m in the same boat as him. I don’t do too much in the way of dungeons so my dragonite is plentiful and I’m starved for Emp frags. Best I’ve managed is chest/JP farming for 2 hours a day for 1 emp star >.>

The fact that Damask is still double the cost of Leather is enough evidence of the attention that goes into crafting.

Keeper’s stats too, I want more healing power for high level fractsl to keep my team alive

I didn’t even think of the more recent stat allocations that didn’t exist when fractals first came out. Further evidence that this needs to happen!

Add more than 4 stat allocations for Fractal Capacitors. I really liked the design of how the spinal blade backpeice was upgraded, which was essentially the same as the fractals backpeice except you could select any stat allocation as you upgraded it.

I’d suspect there’s a lot of players, especially those who don’t want to shell out 200g when they’re working on Damask and/or other transmutes, who would be more interested in stat allocations besides the original 4 that were released.

Missing/Bugged Armor Skins

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Squee Squashington.5189

Two specific ones:

Whisper’s Mantle (Order of Whispers light armor shoulders) – Went to the vendor and bought the 5 other peices fine, but shoulders were not even listed by said vendor. She had all 6 for heavy and medium. When to the wardrobe tab in the bank and searched Whisper under the light armor sub-category and the empty slot does not exist either.

Rogue mask – Bought it a few times with karma from the vendor in south western Diessa and it didn’t unlock. Bought a few more from the WvW armorsmith with badges an no luck either. Tooltip for it seems “incomplete?”, there is however a slot for this in the wardrobe.

Thanks for reading, hope it helps.

I’ve started hunting skins for Light armor for my wardrobe and have an idea where most of the missing ones are but there’s a few I can’t find or have never heard of:

1.) Guild Archmage Gloves

2.) Apostle set (my search suggests this was formerly called Rubic?)

3.) Tribal
