They didn’t put me in cause: they put my level 80.

Also, if they’d have thought I was condescending, they’d never have used “my friend”.

Anyways, no one answered the main question why I opened this topic: did any of you experience such things?

Don’t help noobs then? No major loss really, they probably struggled through it after hours and you saved yourself a frustrating experience of people who don’t know how to talk or play.

Yesterday, I opened the lfg. I wanted to do a dungeon, but nothing specific. I check all dungeons, no run interested me, then suddenly an AC run popped up: “story”, nothing more. Hey, let’s help some newbies, that’d be great.

I join. There are two people, both level 39. I say hello and get an “hello” back. So I start talking: do they wanna help in going through the dungeon from an experienced view? Or should I stay in the back only assisting them? No answer. I ask a few more questions, no answer.

Then suddenly, for no reason, I got kicked (2 minutes after joining and the party was still not full and the dungeon still had not started). What the hell!? Did they press the wrong buttons? Then the guy who replied “hello” to me whispered me: “Hey, we don’t take level 80s in this run, we want noobs like us. I hope you understand my friend, bye”. I replied that I have a lowbie char that could use some levels. Again no answer. I said that if they want newbies, they should say so in the lfg. You guessed it, no answer. So I left (and blocked them both because you don’t mess with people wanting to help).

But this whole experience was strange (the whole setup, the “my friend” yet having kicked me). Has anyone encountered this already?

It’s hard to be an 80 these days.

Legendaries with PvP-like sigil selection

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fror.2163

Fror.2163

While changing stats could affect the economy, changing sigils would be worse as many of them are several gold a piece.

What? Have you checked the price of an ascended weapon? I don’t call that “several gold a piece”, but “many many golds a piece”.

Please elaborate on this because either you completely overlooked the ascended weapons (because I’m currently making 1 ascended weapon per dungeon simply to hold the different sigils) or you have not been explicit at all as it makes no sense.

Plus, you would have to make a legendary to get this upgrade, and the cost of a legendary is a little bit more than the cost of an ascended weapon, last time I checked.

Legendaries with PvP-like sigil selection

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fror.2163

Fror.2163

I feel like the best improvements for the quality of life were done in PvP. The current runes/sigil selection system is the best it could be.

After the ability to change stats for the legendaries, we should be able to switch sigils at will like we can change the stats, and as it works in PvP. Not “any” sigil, but rather sigils that we unlock per weapon. So there would still be a hunt for good sigils as it is limited to legendaries.

Why do I feel this is necessary? Simply because people want to play with their favorite skin yet be able to optimize their damage output. For instance, it’s unthinkable to do Arah without a Sigil of the Undead. Now the best second sigil on a weapon is a sigil of Force. If I go in CoE afterwards, the best would be to use a sigil of the Night combined with Sigil of Force. Well, at the moment, either I spend as much as the dungeon would reward me or I use two weapons and clog my inventory with dungeon-specific weapons.

Also, if I want to keep the same look everytime, I must have several times the same object icon and I can select the right weapon only by hovering it. This small annoyance should be removed.

My little anecdote against megaserver and languages, guild missions version.

We’re a rather young guild so we need the guild merits. We still have our older guild for the commendations.

1. Guild bounty tier 2: we miserably fail. Not everyone is on the same map.
2. Since a lot didn’t get the commendation, we do Guild Bounty tier 3 and choose among the list. Poobadoo is the easy kill, we take everyone to Kessex Hills and kill him easily. It takes 10 minutes to gather everyone and 2 to kill him.
3. We still want our merits, so we do Guild bounty tier 2. This time we pre-split the guild and it works okay.
4. Guild trek tier 3 is easy. Good.
We switch to our old guild.
5. Guild rush: we activate it, make sure everyone is in Dredgehaunt and we profit of some other guild doing it do make all our members go as well. Communication is okay. Oh yes, we didn’t activate ours so 3 hours after the guild missions it was still active.
6. Guild challenge: we get the crystal one in Blazeridge Steppe. Another guild is doing the event so we tag along to get time. But hey we’re polite and ask if we may. No answer. Either on /m or /s. No answer at all. Even though I have disabled my language preference in the chat. I whisper their commander, of course they had the game in Spanish and didn’t deactivate the option so they couldn’t read us. They allow us to tag along as long as we don’t take the charrzookas, ok. None of us takes it and the mission is a success. Except that none of us gets the commendations. We have to redo it. Other guilds are waiting in line. We allow them to tag along, but say that they cannot finish it with “our” instance. They’re sad because everyone is losing time.
7. Guild puzzle: 15 minutes left on the timer of the previous guild when we arrive. So we don’t waste our time and go in. Some of us stood were left behind and no mesmer left in the main group (we reviewed our policy in this matter since). So we redo it, Chance! it’s the same and no other guild comes after us.

Total: 3 hours.
Usually it takes us 1h30. And we don’t have to wait for other guilds to finish their event.

What the hell is this solution?

You prefer that I don’t see people talking in some languages rather than tune your algorithm to allow me to play with more people sharing my language?

ArenaNet, have you really thought this through? Really?

What we want is to be able to play with people! More people sharing the same language.

When I switch language in my interface, it’s to change the language of the interface, not the language of my communication with others!

You have about zero clues regarding what your customers want. All you see is your money going to waste with too many servers and can’t think of what is good for your customers!

Where did I really chose a language for my community? Where? When I selected a server! Not when I selected a language for my interface!

You’re doing it wrong. Completely wrong.

Guild missions and the megaserver?

in Players Helping Players

Fror.2163

Let’s say I have a guild mission and we’re doing the Trek, for instance with two dozen locations to find.

Will our guild still be able to activate them in the mega-server? Or is it doomed?

Regarding the bounty, our whole guild must be on the same instance, right? so with the megaserver, how can we ensure that there is enough place for all the guildies to come on the map without going on another overflow? Inviting everyone on the same instance with the party system? Well, that seems a bit tricky especially since it’s a time-based action!

So, for all the guilds that already had their missions, how did you make it work?

Non-English Languages, culture, map chat.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fror.2163

Fror.2163

Anzenketh, you asked about how we deal in real life in a multi-lingual environment.

I think I can answer that.

I’m a Belgian of nationality and I live in Belgium. In Belgium there three official languages: Dutch (mostly in its Flemish variant), French and German. English is also known amongst the younger generation (aged under 40).

I, personnally, can speak fluently French, Flemish and English.

When I go somewhere, I first listen and check what language is used. I adapt to that and use that language. When I don’t understand the people because they use another language, I ask if we can use a middle-ground, usually by naming the three languages I know in the language they use (because I learned the names). Then if we can agree on one language, we go further. But this is a whole concept of negociation between willing people.

The problem here is not that people use different languages: it’s that when people are at home, they mostly want to use their language. People had a hard day, translating for some is a real work for the brain and they just cannot afford that at that moment. We often forget that: people are at home playing to relax. Okay, they want to do some challenging content that requires coordination and people in their own language are not present in high numbers to do that content, so they are a little forced to use another language. So they adapt, but not really willingly: it’s only because their will to do the content is bigger than their will to stick to one language.

The language negociation is something quite complex that relies on the knowledge of the people, the interest they have in speaking another language and their will to do so.

Come the megaservers.

Suddenly their map chat is not understandable. People are comfy at home and the game puts on them a whole level of language negociation that was not something they are used to. Most know some words in the other languages, but they don’t want to use that language (because they didn’t have to before that) or they don’t know enough of that language. Why the hell should they use another language when they bought the localized game in their local store with a box in their local language, and on top of that ArenaNet gave them language-specific servers (it’s one of the first thing they see when they install and play the game).

Now ArenaNet is removing the language-specific servers. How should people react? Well, they’re still comfy at home and their preference isn’t taken in account anymore: they registered on a language-specific server to be able to not have to speak another language and they are forced into that. If I didn’t know English, I’d thought ArenaNet would have broken a promise and I would strongly ask for a refund of the game. Yes, even 1.5 years in the game.

Now people are trying to settle this issue by forcing people into their language of preference (usually English) as middle-ground. This is bad. People are still comfy in their chair and you are forcing them to make efforts they didn’t have to do and they now don’t want to do. So you should think about those people: why shouldn’t the other people speak their language? Oh, but everybody is making an effort to speak English, isn’t that some middle ground? No, not everybody is making an effort to speak English: Brits are the first amongst those, so they come back to their first question: why should they make any effort as well?

The main thing with the megaserver here isn’t that there is some discussion about what language to use, but rather that such a choice has to be made. ArenaNet is removing something granted for more than 1.5 years.

This, of course, doesn’t apply to people who are already on international servers because they consciously made the choice to play a game that was available only in 4 languages and potentially not theirs, but that’s only a bit more than half the people of EU (assuming the same number of people on each server).

Average population from the same guild as the player on joined map : +5%

As European when I search for “English flag” on the Internet, I get mainly two flags: the flag of UK or the flag of England. Both the country and the nation have English as official language.

The LFG introduces the flag of the USA for looking people speaking English. Yet the USA don’t have any official language. So please, be courteous for EU and change the flag to something meaningful for us.

Edit: this is not me being “anti-american”, “pro-european” or something. It’s just that for us European, we associate the English language with the Union Jack, not the Star-Spangled Banner.

How do you lost 35% of your dmg output?

I run full Ascended Berserker set and I only notice my damage lower by around 10% in total.

That’s because you can do math, and he can’t

I’ll break the math down for you.
old 107% crit damage + 150% base crit damage = 257% damage on crit
New damage 222% damage on crit

so 257 – 222 = oh crap thats 35% damage

As for zerker being highest dps, yes it is still highest but the risk worth the gain and after the new stats no its not (for some classes/builds).

Sorry to break it to you, but… you can’t do math.

35/257 = 13.6% damage loss…which is still more than 10% and somewhat significant. =|

Even with that number, you assume a crit chance of 100%. Do you have the perfect party to have full 100% crit chance? I don’t (except in low level areas/dungeons, because of the bad downscaling).

The guy says my “damage output is 35% less effective than before”. People say “no: it’s around 10%”.

With 90% crit chance, you lose about 13.3% dmg

With 80% crit chance, you lose about 12.6% dmg

With 70% it becomes about 12%.

So please, take everything in account.

When I’m downlevelled I now deal more damages. Actually, not more damages, but way more.

TA is way easier
CM is a joke
AC, I could do it with my eyes closed.

It’s not fun at all! Where’s the challenge? In a subpar party with no ele we killed Kholer faster than what I used to normally in a 1 ele party with fiery rush abuse. (No, don’t tell me the party was good, we weren’t, by a mile.)

I guesstimate that we do between 1.5 and 2 times the damage that we used to. Also, without ranger (so without spotter) and without any food, I was way above 100% crit chance (+/-105%). Crits, crits everywhere!

With the introduction of the new ferocity stats, you apparently completely reviewed the downscaling and the health of the mobs. It’s a mess.

Please strongly review this so that there is some nice middle ground where you have to train with a good and optimal party to get those results, not get them from any pug.

Note to moderators:
I took the dungeons as example, but it’s the same for any zone where I’m downscaled.

Update on the MegaServer roll-out plan

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fror.2163

Fror.2163

Hello!

Here’s some clarification, as I understand that this whole thing is quite complicated to grasp.

  • The roll-out plan ultimately include all maps in the open world, including the cities. The speed at which we’ll roll out the system will depends on how the system performs versus our expectations, but the goal is to ultimately cover the whole open world.
  • The roll-out is done on a per-map basis. Once a map uses the MegaServer system, it uses it for all Worlds (that is the point of the MegaServer system). The “map population” I am referring to is the average population on the map across all Worlds.

Thanks for your comments!

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fror.2163

Fror.2163

The more I think about the world bosses, the more I think it’s a bad idea.

To be able to play the big world bosses you have now the following choices: get one of the three standard event times (01:00-03:00 (UTC), 10:30-12:30 (UTC) and 16:00-18:00 (UTC)) or have a guild to start a fight.

So we went down from twelve occurrences a day to only three, but we can have extra ones by spending influence.

On my server, the timeframe of the Tequatl or Wurm attempts is never in the three suggested timeframes. I’d be surprised if any PVE guild has currently uses these times in EU. I personally cannot join any of the suggested times.

So we can skip the three standard times: they are bad IMO. But hey, there’s an alternative! Make your own time. So first let make the guild spend some of their stashed influence. Yeah, well first you gotta have a guild with enough members to want to start that fight. Secondly (that is, if you don’t have a guild big enough), you have to have that guild be kind enough to share their event. Because if they don’t want to share it, they basically are allowed to keep it for themselves with the megaserver. Thirdly, you have to be friend with them.

So yes, this is indeed social play where you only can play if you’re friend with everyone. But… you are not! There are a lot of people I know on my server, I like them but they are acquaintances, not friends.

So what do I do? Well, I should join guilds that will specialize in killing those bosses beause my guild is too small. Probably more two than only one. In addition to my current ones.

Yet, the other news of yesterday said that “someday you’ll simply have one guild!” What is this I don’t even

So I see two possibilities here: either ArenaNet want to force people in a few guilds where people barely know each other or there’s some larger agenda to which ArenaNet gives us some facets but no actual view.

So what we have here is a complete lack of information that instills FUD in small guilds members. At first sight, people in small guilds will not be able to play with others of their server anymore. People will answer that the metrics show a clear indication of the contrary. Well, they might indicate a tendency, but they actually don’t mean anything as they are not excerpts from the real life. Theory said that we should all have played the Karka event very smoothly all together. Oops, no.

For all of this, I’d like more insurances that me, member of my small guild (70 people, but 20 active, playing PvE, WvW and PvP), will still be able to play Tequatl or the Wurm and have chances of succeeding in it. Because if people don’t get those chances to succeed those events, they will soon be reserved to a small elite and barriers will be put in place because that’s how human nature works.

Is the skin linked to the character or to the armor? Example: I have a char with asuran cultural armor and a normal norn armor. Both are heavies. If I put my asuran cultural armor on an ascended armor, what will happen when I use that armor onto my norn?
- my norn will not be able to put it on?
- my norn will have the asuran cultural t3 armor?
- my norn will keep his current skin?
- my norn will have the default ascended armor?

The skin is applied to the armor (it is basically an already existing transmutation mechanic, with a new UI and added convenience of a skin locker). Therefore the answer to your question is most likely number 1 – your norn will not be able to put it on.

Thanks for the answer!

It’s however quite embarrassing to not have thought about this use case.

As raised in another topic and for privacy reasons, the date that a guild leader should see is not the last time a player logged in the game, but rather the last time a player represented the guild. For guild leaders, it’s more accurate and for us players, it’s more correct privacy-wise.

The only inconvient for you, staff of GW2 is that you have to stock that information in the player/guild relation space rather than in the player space.

For reference, here’s the original now-locked topic: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Social-Play-Improvements-and-privacy/3815623

That information was available since the release of Leaderboards last year.

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na

It was only accessible through the site itself up until now, since they are making it it visible in game.

You’re kinda late with your “privacy” concerns.

Nope, I raised my voice against at that time as well.

I value my privacy and the new blog update makes my privacy disposable.

Social play improvements

First, guild leaders who have wanted a little extra help with managing membership will be pleased to learn that you’ll now be able to see the last login date for guild members.

This is strictly against any privacy good practice ever recommended.

People being able to see when I last logged-in? No: change that! A guild leader shouldn’t know when I last logged in, but rather when I last represented his/her guild.

Foe Wig, that’s why gearcheck exists. I dislike not to be able to trust, but when I create a party of zerkers and I see 2 spin attacks on Kholer I always ask for a gearcheck. Then your lie will be out. Oh so you’ll buy zerker things to tell us you’re zerk? Good, but since you bought it, why not use it? You’ll enjoy more than thinking about “yeah, I owned this group, they thought I was zerk, but I’m not”.

How many lvl 80 characters do you have?

I got the following (6 level 80, 2 non-80):
- level 80 norn guardian
- level 80 asura warrior
- level 80 sylvari ranger
- level 80 charr necro
- level 80 asura elementalist
- level 80 human mesmer
- level 30+ asura thief
- level 30+ asura engineer

Also, I’m thinking about making a new and separate guardian for wvw only so when I want to wvw, I only need to switch char and not having to switch gear, skills and traits.

A player on the forum told me to come here. Now I just wanted to know whether it’s my level 80 that will get experience or my level 43 when I run with my level 80 and kill the boss with my level 43.

Also, I’m looking for a build that allows me to level efficiently. Could you indicate the armor I should use and a list of traits to run in dungeons? Also, I’d be extremely grateful if you would provide me with the information about the food to use and the skills to prefer. I love pew-pewing with my short bow and exterminate things with my two axes from time to time and I like nothing else. I think I’m highly competent so just provide the link and I’ll deal with it and don’t babysit me. I might do some spelling mistakes (but punctuation isn’t a part of spelling) so excuse me for the rare ones that will make your life uncomfortable.

Well, I think I translated it pretty well. I might have make an error or two, but it’s most certainly more legible than the original version, I think.
