Except….lich form is the entire reason power necro is even a thing……and thief is not a class carried by an elite. Now remind me, what’s the stunbreak cooldowns for a necromancer again? And do they teleport him twice, break stun twice, and clear conditions on a single utility skill? Oh that’s right, death shroud, that seems so helpful it must be why one team got trained to the ground in a recent tournament.
Remind me, how many power necros were in the recent tournaments? Oh right. Certainly many more than thieves.
So we’re talking about both classes stun breaks of 50 and 60 seconds now? Or are we talking about the only utility skills that thieves use? SS is on a 50 second CD and is one of the ONLY condi clears thieves run.
We can talk all day about power necros and the injustice you have received, but you shouldn’t be losing to thieves 1v1 on a necro in PvP.
There are more players doing GvGs than you people really understand. Hell there is a 412 member guild on Ebay that GvG’s regularly. So that right there just blows out any argument of numbers.
Back in 2013 when GvGs was at its prime the number of players was insane. You could literally have in every tier 2-5 fights for your guild every week. It was the golden age of GvG’s IMHO due to the sheer amount of guilds doing it. We had a player ran website with a ladder where you could challenge other guilds. We had a player ran show that highlighted all the big matches and actually had videos of the matches with shout casting. Then blood lust dropped to kill the scene only to be resurrected later on T2. The T2 scene was great during its time but the number of actual guilds was down.
Even now the amount of players GvG’n is insanely more numerous than the naysayers can estimate.
So let’s stop with hate on GW2 GvG’s. If you think 20v20/15v15 takes no skill then obviously you’ve never done it and that’s fine. Just dont spew your ignorant rage all over a thread please.
p.s. Even now Anet is still making changes to the game to kill off any and all GvG in GW2. Latest patch and new WvW maps are prime examples. There is serious hate from anet there.

Stability changes favor the blobs. Did the fire and forget stability of yesterday need rework….Yes and no.
Reason it did was because it was too face roll. Throw up stab and go smash kitten. Granted there was more to it but the gist of it is that.
Now the reason it was like that was because of how the core game play of GW2 is. With AoE caps and the entire game rewarding nut hugging 100 of your closest bro’s stability allowed a smaller group of skilled players to win.
Anet fixed stability, but failed to address the other problem. That is why people are going to complain. They should have addressed both.

I am seriously considering doing just that, I was keeping my tomes for the new class, but yes this has crossed my mind, lets see what this noob everyone thinks I am can do with a thief.
But if Im going to commit my time to that, I want a guaranteed nerf if I can produce the same.
And hoenstly, if I can get stuns on block with no cd and renewed focus recharging my skills as well as virtues. Id be saying the same thing you guys are “Naahhh this is not overpowered its still got these holes and and well if its 10 good people they could take me down, but no noobs.”

People arent in here complaining constantly because youre not constantly putting them in no win situations because you have a class mechanic of too much insta damage that is extremely hard to counter if not impossible in too many situations.

Bottom line in a game where visual understanding of your target, reacting to animations, reacting to environment and there is some class that negates every single bit of that leaving you with no way to react or counter it because you dont know its there well thats called entirely too unfair. Stealth is extremely powerful in a game that doesnt rely on radar for enemy detection.
I mean we even get a red circle on the ground to let us know where a cannon is about to hit and it generally does less damage than you can. The most damage in the game (Necro Wells) require some significant coordination with many people setting it up to get the full potential of it due to all the animation on the ground. In small groups a power necro is a setting duck.
Ohh and that Mighty blow is a 4 sec cd, but its animated, good players dodge more often than not unless I immob them and that has a looooong cd and is easily dodged by the right person.
If everyone had a thief detector, I dont think anyone would be complaining. We rely on visual understanding of the environment to play this game in every single aspect but when thieves come into play.,
A warrior adds, well Ive rotated that fight around enough to see them coming, I know its going to happen, I need to save a stun breaker. A ranger add from a distance, well he might get a couple of rapid fire shots off on me.
Thief, thsat fight needs to be a 1v1 fight and I have to be fully concentrated on you and not worried about anything else to beat you. I have to use aegis, the tell tale blind, my own one AOE blind, and every AOE I have.
People can learn to fight a mes, engi, and whatever else by fighting them more and more to understand their animations and their tell tale signs. Even a mes, mighty blow and ring of warding screws up a shatter in a heart beat. Killing clones with AOE seems to be the way to fight those guys. I dont know yet I havent gotten a chance. Regardless its animated. Even them as an Add, I can reset that fight sand get out before they add anything significant to it.
I dont mind getting gg’s by players that out played me. Thats just something to learn from, but when I get gg’d and there is no counter in the game to it. Thats a problem.
The reason I call for more squishy thieves is you need to pay a price. A thief revealed open field shouldnt be so quick and easy to jump back into stealth. In a game where we rely on sight stealth is a huge defense.
We need something, we hit you in stealth numbers pop and you are revealed. I hit you with a sword while in stealth I should feel that therefore I should have a way of knowing that happened.
Long Cooldown on stealth after BackStab so when you do this you risk the chance of exposure. Your risk is too low. It needs to be higher to make you think twice before just running up out of no where.
And 5k is a significant amount of damage, half of your insta damage and severely animated. So what does that tell you about 10K backstabs if 5k is significant? Ohh and you disappeared right after doing so.
Thieves should be having to find the perfect situation to jump in as their risk level should be extremely high. You add to a fight out of no where with that much damage, you need to be risking a 10k hit yourself.
Why shouldnt you risk an insta 10K hit? Everyone else does because of you.

They need to revert CnD, mug, BP, and cluster bomb nerfs.
I have to say, one of the reasons I refuse to play thief is because I hate Anets love affair with thieves since the perma sin in gw1. Since I play guard, I am really deadly against thieves except for P/D.
Now I have to say I watched 1 P/D thief hold his own against 10 people yesterday in WvW outside blue keep. And he was able to wreck one guy and get away while this party of 10 was trying to hunt him down the whole time together in a group.
That is going to make people scream OP.
I can do that on power build if the players are bad enough.
I can do that on a mesmer if the players are bad enough.
Uhh at least we won’t be the class drawing all the nerf cries once they come.
I don’t know if this has been stated or asked before, but I believe with a introduction of a new class we should get an extra character slot.
Having to delete a character or spend an extra $10 in gems would be pretty underhanded IMHO.

I used to Frontline all the time on thief.
As long as you got a good group who’s cleansing your conditions and providing enough stability then spammable clusters that hit for 4 to 5 thousand are an awesome asset.
Tips
1. Immediately hit infiltrate signet then steal to stop RF. DPS them afterwards to put them on the defensive. This is how you dictate the fight.
2. CnD off his pet. Turn it against him.

Your toughest matchup is vs perplexity condi thieves. D/P can be a problem if you can’t understand their weakness.

While this does provide more DPS than standard attack chains you are greatly missing out on the conditions you apply later in the chains.
Granted in PvE you’d want to go most DPS possible but fighting other players the poison/cripple/weakness is VERY desirable

Yea, you’re comparing two different trait setups and builds. You need to run something like my 5/6/0/0/3 on the thief with signets to beat the damage of a RF from a 6/6/2/0/0 ranger, which makes sense seeing as the ranger has an inherent +200 power advantage and better damage scaling on RF itself.
It’s that the thief has way better damage modifiers and a massive power advantage when playing for damage without the might from other players.
Yet you have zero survivability on that thief compared to a ranger.
I had a d/d thief talking down his nose to me.
I ran 6 0 2 0 6 d/p and kitten d him. He stuck with d/p is the crutch.
Another d/d hero just flat out refused to fight me because any form of d/p is cheese
People need to understand d/d is boring to a lot of thieves. It is the simplest weaponset we own….

I gotta say its funny that you whine about being beat by perplex thief that caps at 13 stacks of confusion while engi maintain 17-20 stacks easy. I though thief was supposed to be high burst regardless of zerk or condi. With that said my proposed thief change is to apply 1 stack of confusion on hit from headshot. With 3 into trickery allowing 4 headshots in a row if spammed will push the cap for thief up to 17. it will also correct the lack of condi from p/p with out perpelx runes. short bow has poison field and bleeds from cluseter blomb. p/d has torment and bleeds as well as cloak and dagger sneak attack. Both weapons have 2 forumns of condi damage while p/p sits with just bleeds unless using perplex runes. With engis having the ability to reveal us and use stealth they either dont need 17 stacks of confusion or thief needs to be brought up in line with engi. now if you did spam headshot 4 times it would interput the play and prevent him from using a skill long enough to counter it if hes not a newb. Now lets talk smoke screen and stunbreakers. with shadowstep being over relied on by thiefs i feel we need to make smokescreen a stunbreaker. base cooldown for SS is 50secs if traited is 40. smokescreen base cooldown is 30 if traited is 24. 24 is more then half of 40. i suggest to make ss a stunbreaker to allow more counter play to thief and not jsut relying on the same old skills that everyone uses.

The game isn’t about big bursts anymore but sustain.
They could make steal CnD bs hit like it used too and it wouldn’t be enough due to the amount of defenses/sustain of the cele classes.

Just kittening nerf the hell out of eles and engis and eveyone would be happy. Serously, they should have not let the meta stay stale and dry like that in a kitten long period of time. Not everyone wants to play those two professions. Balance should be done more frequently but if they cant do it then there .should be huge changes not just some minor shavings.
This is 100% wrong, and causes people to leave the game. After the first summer the game was out, ANet stuck a stake through the heart of eles and made them largely unplayable for over a year. Most of those eles left the game and didn’t come back. It was also really unfun as an ele player for people to tell you how trash your class is and to pls play anything else.
Drastic over-reaction also led to things like the condi meta, the hambow meta, and the bunker meta which were universally loathed. At this points, even the “best specs” (cele ele, engie, shoutbow, condi necro) are just VERY slightly better than the next level of specs. At MOST levels of play, your skill determines the outcome when fighting these classes. Giving a small shave to these top-tier specs while gradually buffing the garbage evens the playing field even more and leads to more diversity overall.
The only thing they are being very slow with is buffing the garbage.
Eles have the meta for PvP the most out of all the classes in the game.
Infact they’ve been the best class in the game for a long time when you add things up.
