Karl, can we get confirmation on Practiced Tolerance, too? The streams/updated notes say Ferocity, but you said on the stream that it’s been unchanged except bumped up to 10% (as it’s currently 7% Vitality).

I feel like giving crit strikes more damage and not giving it any durability bonuses, while in-line with the design of the trait line, puts thieves in a bad place against conditions and ultimately hurts build diversity and the class as a whole by forcing more players into defensive trait lines due to the crazy low health pool and terrible condition cleansing we have. This trait helps immensely, especially while offsetting the losses to Applied Fortitude in WvW while people run +40% condi food and have inherently higher damage outputs.

Maybe if you just PvE. I’m one for going full-on damage, but PT’s vitality bonus is a pretty big loss, especially with condi damage buffs incoming and the removal of (EDIT: Applied Fortitude) cutting our hp down by like 4k from what it is now.

Again you are thinking in just terms of WvW.

Even in just those terms you can mix/match your gear to make up for the loss in Vit. In PvP the ferocity will be a nice bonus to spike damage and will help thieves in general perform their role much easier. Especially due to losing all our damage modifier traits ^^

You mean meta Panic Strike thief? You’re comparing a whole prof to a spec that uses RNG and procs and thief will be call faceroll/cheese/OP no matter what.

Yes PS of course. It is a very user friendly easy spec in terms of mechanics and requires low play time for most.

That said, you can’t really call a whole class face roll. There are face roll builds on any class.

Celestial Rifle isn’t all Engineer is, and I doubt anyone would say other specs beside this one pose the most issues atm.

After the changes? I don’t know, but neither do any of you. Not even the Devs do (quite evidently). We’ll just have to wait and see.

Its the true definition of a Standalone. Just like the first two gw1 expansions.. the third expansion may be a true expansion for GW2 like it was for GW1.

HoT is NOT a stand alone as Anet has already stated as such.

As a community we need to stop calling things “Brain dead.” It’s a term used so much that it’s beginning to cheapen the posts it’s used in.

I almost went “knee jerk response” and ignored the whole post, even though I also play a thief and could benefit from supporting this.

The lock on trait is a bad idea and would be the equivalent of thieves being able to lock you out of adrenaline gains for 18 of 20 seconds.

Wrong. This trait would be the equivalent of an engineer being able to lock out a warrior from gaining adrenaline for 18 or 20 seconds, of which since it contests with speedy kits the warrior could just run and reset from using GS or Sword leap and swiftness of which it has abundance of and return to fight the Engi.

Your example is wrong because a warrior couldn’t reset the fight as a thief could catch it especially since mobility skills won’t be effected by swiftness and thief mobility is unhindered due to it all being ports. Where as an engineer lacks the mobility after giving up speedy kits to catch said warrior, or thief. Which if revealed can run and reset or head to another point.

That said, I will still be taking speedy/streamlined, since the reinstallment of perma swiftness purely because I don’t and have never needed to reveal thieves to kill them or at least push them off point.

We’re on the PvP Forum mate. When’s the last time you saw a GS warrior?

The problem with acro now is that you can literally spam dodges and skillessly negate your opponents efforts

1v1 this is broken.

Now since I’m a realist I know that the only way to fight on point is tone have the current acro because the rest of the classes are mindlessly spamming AoEs.

So while I support the acro nerf I must also lobby for less face roll from the other classes. Its only fair imho

Thanks for keeping me entertained everyone. For those that actually posted on how they feel instead of just calling me some name, I thank you for your input in this in this thread. I understand you guys a bit more now but its getting late for me and I’ll probably be quoted a million times by the time I wake up tomorrow. Unfortunately there is nothing more I can say that I haven’t already said over and over.

Also yes maybe Anet will listen to the complaints and actually do something for those that feel they deserve more but I will say this, the way some of you complain is really not the best way to go about it. Ohh well I just want the best for this game seeing as it has provided me with so many hours of fun. I just wish it could do the same for everyone else really.

I agree $30 is a reasonable price for the base package, after all you’re not paying for 20 plus zones, 4 plus regions, half a dozen dungoens with 3 paths each, a WVWVW map with the equivalent of 5 maps, half a dozen PVP maps.

they never showed us 100% of the Core game, why would you expect them to spoil everything for you? Single player games get the same treatment. Show a little. By Beta 3 for the core game we where in the lvl50 zones and locked out of anything past that.

There is plenty of map for new zones, plus they can extend the map out.

I take issue with anyone stating whether or not it’s worth the money. I mean, no, it’s not worth $50. It just isn’t. It should come with a free slot by default. I got the ultimate edition for value, but I probably would have gotten the base game if it had just come with a slot. And if they added a slot, I would not be upset. I still find value in what I did get.

That said, we only have the vaguest notion of what is actually in HoT. We don’t know the value of the content in the expansion. So to ever claim to know the value of that content is ludicrous.

I say its not worth the money and should be at maximum $30 for vets.

Reasons being they’ve already clued us in on a few things:
1. Its not a stand alone like previous gw1 expansions
2. Its not as big as the core game
3. Lots of the content is free in patches

So yes I’m here stating publicly that HoT is NOT worth $50 and going by what we KNOW its TRUE.

Ok lemme end this argumentative thread now.

1. Price is out and usually when that happens the product is pretty much done. No company isn’t going to save huge groundbreaking announcements AFTER the price is out. No they will do it before to justify and whip up hype for their product.

2. Currently the revealed content isn’t worth $50. If you think they are going to reveal MORE between now and launch please read #1 again.

3. There’s no release date. They’ve accepted pre purchases (not even pre orders but a full fledged purchase) and haven’t even said when it was coming out. This is a kickstarter move on a fully released game….seriously horrendous business practice.

4. The core game isn’t free. Again the core game isn’t free. Its included in the price. More than likely its 10-20 bucks of that price. They are gouging the rest of us b/c they think they can.

You can’t refute these statements. They are true. Do I wish they weren’t….Hell yes. I’d rather have a full expansion with a full continent to explore, dungeons, etc, etc, etc. Unfortunately its not the case b/c if it was we’d already know about it.

As long as they deliver at least 50 hours of brand new content I am with OP, otherwise it stings a bit… I think if they achieve at least dollar an hour content ratio any price is fair for the expansion.

It won’t and along with no expansion slot included has made many players angry.

It’s a rip off at the current price point for what you get. You look at other MMO expansions and they are much beefier than what HoT is.

I just think they made a mistake I think the should have worded it like this “Contains the core game for new players” I think people would be less upset if they just thought this through a little. The price point is inline with the industry standard pricing so I don’t have a problem.

1v1 Thief vs Mesmer was not a hard counter. Only in team play when thief focuses mesmer was it a counter.

The actual counter was never as hard as guardian vs thief or now engi vs thief.

I think I would go for the extra initiative too. You might be right S/D is nerfed a bit. But I think D/P is definitly not nerfed. The vigor could use a buff though if you want it to compete to the current standart of it.

I do think the movement speed changes are nice for the Flanking Strike skills though!

According to the wiki (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stealth)

Mesmers only have 4 skills with Stealth:

- The Prestige – 30CD, 6 seconds stealth if traited.
- Decoy – 40CD, 6 seconds stealth if traited.
- Veil – 90CD, 4 seconds stealth if traited.
- Mass Invisibility – 90CD, 10 seconds stealth if traited.

All with pretty massive cooldowns. A D/P thief leaping 3 times through blinding powder can already get 9 seconds of stealth almost outplaying Mass Invisilibilty.

The random boon trait is not bad! Though you don’t know which boons you get of course which is a bit of a downer.

But who knows, maybe mesmers might become stronger then thieves, but I doubt it!

When combined with all their blocks/invulns/etc the extra up time of stealth is face roll.

They are increasing the damage per tick on builds that have +condi damage.

Thats not needed. The increase in stacks for PvE was.

Already condi burst is real in today’s game….

I think they’re doing it to compensate for the loss of condition damage from the traits.

We aren’t losing them they are just going to be tied to something else. I was under the impression you could choose which ones you want to better round out your build.

We are losing them since after the expac, we’ll have no stat bonuses from the trait line anymore (i.e. condition damage from Trickery).

Reallocating this bonuses doesn’t mean that it will be a 1-to-1 transfer from one place to another. The +300 condition damage from Trickery might be spread out starting with the increase in condition damage intensity — so that overall, even if we lost the bonuses from the trait line, it would feel as if we never did.

That being said a standard condi build runs well over 1k condi damage and their condi burst will rival power burst.

That is assuming that the conditions will function as it is now.

Knowing that the condition damage is now being stacked in intensity, your damage output having 1k condition damage now may only require, probably, 500 condition damage after the expac.

On top of that, they also mention that the base condition damage stats will be lowered and their coefficient value would be increased which further support the theory that you may not even need 1k condition damage to achieve the same result as you have now.

Not to mention that Vulnerability will also increase the condition damage on the target which is another indication that 1k condition damage may not even be necessary.

You really don’t get it do you?

Do a complete condi dump on someone with a thief using 1700 condi damage.

Watch how fast they get burned down.

Now increase that damage AND remember the poison is now stacking……qq

ps they also stated we aren’t giving the trait line stats they’ll just be reallocated. Think about it because anet would be nerfing steal HARD

I don’t agree with this since if Thief is really that imbalance, then why aren’t the teams consists of 5 Thieves then?

There are 8 classes 5 slots, when 1 class nearly permanently gets a slot that is imbalanced.

Why do you think a Thief is the best counter to another Thief? It is because one of the reason is because Thief can interrupt the enemy Thief.

LOL, so the answer to counter broken is counter with the same broken class, nor is just the low cast time skills, it is the “punishment” other classes skills go on a cooldown, in fact I seem to remember, though it has been a long time since I checked that you didn’t even lose the initiative cost, depending on the skill and where in the animation you were interrupted or have they fixed it now. (talking weapon skills obviously, though BS like withdraw is also silly)

Are you talking about the Warrior or the Guardian? Perhaps Engineer?

Erm no, neither warrior nor engy have been permanent must have picks for 3 years, warrior was not on many teams for a long time, engy was ok for a long time, but it is only since cele it has been on nearly every team like a thief has for three years. Bunker guard was on nearly every team for a very long time, and now you have lots of medi guards, but really it isn’t the same thing.

Now things like cele engy, shoutbow, medi guard, etc may be OP, however these are balanceable, thief is not.

Thief has had plenty of nerfs and it has not solved the real issues, even after all these nerfs there is still a thief on nearly every team, it is still far too good as a roamer and plus 1, to the point no other class can compete, most can’t even compete simply as a glass cannon, even without taking the roaming/+1 ability of thief into account, the basic design of thief is broken OP, and the only way to balance it is to rework some core aspects, it is as simple as that.

Though feel free to explain why it is balanced that one class should almost have a guaranteed spot regardless of meta, regardless of balance changes, when there are 5 slots to share between 8 classes.

Engi guard and warrior can be balanced but thieves cannot…..lol
