I laughed.
I have never thought of them as tree elves- but rather sentient plants modeled loosely on human form because of the Pale Tree’s interaction with humans.
Also I like to think that when she birthed the Sylvari she wanted humans to feel a kinship with them.
This made me wonder what the game would be like if they were modeled after Ventari, rather than humans. Plant-centaurs would’ve been more fun, IMO.
However, there will be smaller rewards doled out along the way, and even if you don’t participate in WvW, you could be on the receiving end of some goodies if your server does well.
Anet, WHY would you add something as stupid as this??? This is just another reason for PVE carebears to populate winning servers and do absolutely nothing for it.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we all got rewards for what the PvE players are doing?
It might make the personal story a bit weird too. A really young or really old character being best friends with Lord Faren would just be creepy.
It’s possible to get the gift of battle without doing any WvW now. You literally don’t have to leave your spawn zone with this change.

I’m not sure people understand what “viable” means. I’ll admit some hybrid builds are viable, but no pure condi build is viable currently.
If by some miracle you could maintain 25 stacks of bleed, permanent burning, and poison and 3 stacks of torment then with 25 stacks of might you are doing a maximum of 6000 dps. That is HALF of what a power based build currently does. That is in no way “viable”. GW2 is easy enough that it is DOABLE, but it is NOT VIABLE.
Conditions need to first have the cap removed and then have their damage roughly doubled in PvE by some method to be “viable”.

Because they’re not encouraging. They’re coercing.
Now where you draw that encourage/coercing line is debatable. But we do have clear example of encouraging already (Mist warriors hawking the Mist war, achievements under dailies and monthlies, etc.) But I laid out the basics of achievement design, and by those design rules, PvP simply should not be mixed into what is clearly a PvE meta. Putting it in there is done only to get people who really want that Meta to do something other than that meta. And “coercion” I think is apt description of that level of force.

Map completion gives you an optional reward to get a legendary. They’re encouraging you to try WvW by making it a requirement for an optional reward.
One time an uplevel tried killing me in WvW…he accidentally aggro’d a boar, and then another one. He died to the boars without me doing anything.
Devon posted more than a year ago that they’re aware of it and are working on it, so either he lied, they’re really slow, or whoever was working on it is no longer working on it. That or it’s such a complicated process that it’s taken them more than a year to do it.

Devon said in another thread that your rewards are based on the server you’re on when the season starts, so that should help stop people from bandwagoning mid season, hopefully.

First, get rid of the megaservers so this would work. Then, get rid of legendary defenders in WvW, and make the portals to LA from WvW work for opposing servers, with pvp enabled. Basically make WvW what the mist war recruiters make it sound like.
Set yourself to invisible, then back online. Temp fix.
Just a question, when you delete all your characters to move servers, do you still keep things like increased bank space bought with gems? And money if put in the bank before you delete and move?
The bank stays if you delete all your characters to move servers, yes. At least with the stuff in it, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen an anet post telling someone they could stash all their stuff, delete their characters, and move. I would imagine that your bank upgrades stay also, then.
Watch, next month we’ll see that they’ve reduced it to the stated values because it was bugged…

My guess is that it was when they gave us “a new build will be available in the next hour or two” and then kicked us out six minutes later.
That’s actually reasonable, for how duels should work. Which means the pro-duelist crowd won’t like it, since they can’t gank folks who don’t want to duel.
That’s not open world dueling, that’s an open pvp server. This thread is about the ability to challenge someone to a duel, not the ability to have a free for all.
I’d rather play the game the way I want to play it.

I’d rather be able to get a legendary entirely from playing WvW, but it just doesn’t work that way.
I’m somewhat confused by the complaining about the fact that that there’s no longer anything “forcing” players to do WvW if they want legendaries. I mean, granted, I’ve never actually crafted a legendary so maybe I’m wrong, but doesn’t this still exist?

Like I said earlier, you no longer have to do any WvW at all.
It would be nice if SAB came back, as well as getting something original that we haven’t seen yet. Pretty sure it won’t happen, but I can dream…
Do these living story elements inside WvW actually get new people interested in WvW though? I’ve never seen anyone doing them outside of protecting yaks, and I imagine people that never come to WvW don’t even know they exist.
edit: if this thread is about living story stuff inside edge of the mists, I’m not a big fan of it, but at least it’s outside of the normal WvW maps.

And now finding people to duel, one of the things I enjoyed, is completely ruined.
You really think this is because of the orb buff? You’re just aiming the blame elsewhere if you ask me. Instead okittennowledging that your server is weaker than the leading server, you come up with the silly idea that the game is doing something wrong.
Without the orb buffs, chances are pretty high that you’d still be getting slaughtered. Only difference now is that you’ve got a new feature to blame, instead of lack of server coverage, lower server population, possibly even lower player skill. Maybe your server is focussing too much on zerging – Neglecting small group play, etc. etc.
Evaluate the orb buff for a few weeks. Evaluate your server’s behaviour. Don’t judge badly because you’re losing. Be constructive.
If you read the title of the post, it says “the strong get stronger”. I think you may have missed the point…
It’ll be interesting to see what happens. I imagine uplevels will catch even more abuse once this kicks in, and that the game’s going to become blobbier in general.
Can’t give outmanned stat boosts, people would get bullied to get off the map, so let’s just give stat boosts to the server causing outmanned, so those people never come into WvW in the first place!
The unpaid intern they put to work on this probably just isn’t with them anymore, bringing progress to a halt.
It wouldnt be fair if it was 50% but it still wouldnt matter because there is no gear requirements. Crying for the sake of crying with no real arguement wont make your point heard.

Yes this is in fact illegal. Please be sure to provide the internet police with the appropriate account names/fraps recordings/other circumstantial evidence so that we can be sure that justice will be swift.
Be sure to alert Interpol as well, this might be an international conspiracy.
But seriously though, I think at one point Anet said that it was part of the design that two servers could gang up on the third server if they wanted to, so I think planning a 2v1 is fair play.

The lack of anything but greens ever dropping from the chests aside, I like them. Compared to never getting them, we get a decent amount of silver per chest, and the free sieges and badges are nice little additions. Again, they may not stack up to pve chests, but they’re a whole not better than nothing at all.

TIER 8 SERVERS COMING TO AN END FC, ET ,AR
I heard a rumor that the tier 8 servers are going to be disbanded or the 3 servers with the lowest population. And that all players from (Fergusons Crossing, Eternal Battlegrounds and one other server) will get a free server transfer to upper tier server and these servers will cease to exist. It is supposed to happen at some time after the Fall tournament. Thank the gods. I joined Fergusons Crossing because I had a friend in it. Little did I know the implications of picking a server. You would think developers would have noticed and solved these issues of being grossly outnumbered in every battle. It makes the game no fun at all and if anything irritating. Now that Im in it, half the guilds I joined are planning on transferring out within the coming weeks. But I don’t have the money for this. I hope if this does happen that guilds will transfer together so we can still play with each other.

Giving the tournament npc the ability to reset wvw points once per character during the season might be a good alternative.
Patched and up to date my install takes up 19.4 gigs. Hard to say what the download’ll be since there are pretty frequent patches, and the end file size isn’t always the same for everyone.
I’d be impressed if you could get anet to come comment on what the hell is going on with WvW achievements.

Part of the problem with this, I think, is that you can’t necessarily tell when something has been done through legitimate means or not. If I’m just walking along and see an open gate or wall or whatever, I probably won’t guess that it’s the result of someone hacking or exploiting.
First, we wanted to reduce the costs of ability lines to make them feel more attainable, even to the majority of WvW players with a world ranking under 300
Glad to see they’re catering to the casual player base again, because ranks are too hard to get, apparently.
