I like female skin like most Males do, but I also like females in awesome-looking-kicking-the-crap-out-of-you armor. While, I don’t mind the current armor, I do also wish for a version like the Male on the female. I think a lot of people applaud Anet for spending the time to create separate concepts, but at the same time feel left out due to certain restrictions. If both concepts were available to both male and female I think everyone would be happy.
Exactly, I agree with you there. I guess I am just really miffed that the phalanx armor looks so darn aweseome… until I logged in preview it on my female toon and found that looked absolutely like nothing I seen on the website.
The disparity is just too stark. The human T3 heavy has different looks for both male and female but female version still looks fairly kitten. The phalanx just seems like it was intentionally redesign to show more thigh and boobs for the female version
Well the latest phalanx armor on females looks absolutely terrible compared to the male version…
Just wondering if I am alone in this.
I recently came across the Phalanx armor on the gem store and thought it looked awesome.. until I found out that the female version of the same armor looked a lot less impressive.
I agree with this, I don’t want the entire set as only a few pieces matches what i need
The devs want to push the “daily log in” metrics. They have boasted that figure in interviews and press releases.
~snip~
It doesn’t matter to them if those players would be happier without time gates and daily hoops, they can say to their investors, producers and marketing team that they have players playing every day. That’s the priority.
That’s what I was afraid of.
Same here…. won’t be long before I get burnt out and can’t be bothered to log in
I find the LS format to be very creative and fun however. it does feel somewhat lacking.
It is like tidbits and tidbits of content, I must rather have the meat of the content. An entire expansion pack wouldn’t be so bad. I’d pay for it with gems if I have to.
I kinda wish the characters we meet in game are not just plot devices… aside from a few.. most NPCs get introduced then they are completely forgotten and don’t appear anymore
And I didn’t even include the upcoming stuff. As the guy in that Reddit post mentioned, GW 2’s stuff was all free. Some of the additions on the GW list required an expansion. Make of it what you will…
Agree… on a sidenote, some of us don’t actually mind paying $50 bucks for an actual expansion with new lands/skills and etc. I like what GW2 done so far but it feels more like a snack than an actual meal
On GW2 wiki, it states that possible rewards for daily at lvl20+ are ascended ring, infused ascended ring and a fractal weapon/
For 30+ onwards grants a chance to get infused ascended ring & fractal weapon.
It seems like the rewards for level 40+/50+/60+ fractal and so on get the same rewards as lvl 30+ fractal. If that being the case, what is the point of doing these fractals aside from the extra challenge?
I much prefer to have more permanent content. If making full expansion pack is not Anet/NCSOFT idea on how to go forward. Perhaps they can let us pay for additional content through the gemstore.
I.e, new classes, new maps, housing, mounts etc etc…
I’m sick of just having cosmetic items & fluff, they are nice but they don’t add to the game a whole great deal.
I like your idea. but for them to make a new map for us to push the frontier… I don’t know if they ever do, Anet seems happy to just dish out temporary content…. much to my dismay
I noticed that I now have 200 gold account wide but I still haven’t unlock the achievement. Are players who accumulated 200 gold after this patch no longer able to attain this achievement Anet?
I really hope the devs can answer this….
I played that game for 2.5 years. I’ve never played a game since with a stronger sense of community, and I dare say that it was the most social game I ever played. Our community is still unbroken. My guild and many other original Bloodfin (our server) guilds are still around, and we still tend to flock to the same servers when new MMO come out. We’re still in contact after all those years. How many other games can say the same?
So I dare say that if implemented right, player housing and player cities can make a community stronger and A LOT more social, not weaker.
I feel the same as you do. I still miss my home in UO and SWG. Whereas I had very little fond memories of games like WoW.
It really isn’t hard to ress npc/players, I’m really not sure why they had to resort to this.
Nah mate, just find anything that is ranged and fires salvos. Then dodge away to your heart’s content. You will typically net 2- 3 dodges this way.
Ideal mobs would be Sons of Svanir with bows and inquest golems that shoots the energy bolts at you.
I do not understand Anet’s rationale of nerfing AoE. Staff Elementalist skills are mostly AoEs. And they are delays for most of these skills before it goes off and can be easily avoided. I think what Anet needs to do is to buff ST skills.
I did read your post. You seem to lack the understanding of how AoE works and what it is intended to do. You lack the understanding of the downsides of AoE in the game as it stands currently, because your arguments entirely depend on the idea that you should be able to stand in AoE and survive. It’s clearly OP because you can’t ignore it.
AoE, as its name implies, is for area denial. If you refuse to leave the area that AoE covers, you need to L2P. It isn’t very difficult.
With that in mind, yes, I expect the warrior to run out of the red circle, swap to a ranged weapon, and attack that way if there are too many area spells in effect on his/her target. That’s the primary purpose of AoE.
So you think that a skill on your bar should give you the right to control where your opponents position themselves. Get real. You don’t get to do that. I don’t need to l2p, because I’m the guy who takes you AOE users down a notch, sometimes even using AoE to do it.
By your logic, does that also mean CC skills such as snares and what not does not give you the right to CC your opponents? That is a rather strange way of looking at it.
The AOE dmg spells are meant to do damage to a wider area and often cause less dmg or takes a while to cast anyway. Controlling where your enemy position themselves is an indirect consequence of it and is just players being creative with their skills.
Wow whats up with all the people that take things waaaaay too seriously? I think the bow is pretty cool and hilarious in a way.
i would like to see anet do more of these!
I found the new dailies to be utter annoyance. The previous dailies were fine as it is. I will group when I want to, please do not ever FORCE me to do so when I don’t have to.
While i disagree with most of the article some criticism i agree with. I found crafting on the whole to be rather fun but it does require an insane amount of mats to level and by the time you gather enough. You would out-level what you could craft.
The storyline / personal quest was also another part the criticism is correct. Although I applaud Anet’s attempt at making a personal storyline for the players, most of the NPC and the things you do aren’t particularly memorable. I much rather they focus on more character / plot development than introduce me to a whole slew of people who did not leave behind any impression of them at all.
Here is my experience…
1. Brisban Wildlands – Inquest Facility, north of Toxal Bog and west of Duskstruck Moors. Challenge point: Commune with Thaumacore Energy Source. The golems respawn approximately 10 – 30 seconds I take him out. Usually appears behind me when I am clearing the room of the inquest. The inquest themselves also respawn fairly fast.
2. Gendarren Fields – Hezran Outcrops, the cave where Prototype Ooze Concentrate Tincture is found. Trolls respawn rates are also almost 10 – 30 seconds as well. After I clear the entrance trolls and commence fight with the veteran troll. The entrance trolls spawn again right behind my back.
I encounter the exact same scenario you describe above. Mob respawn rate in GW2 is beyond ridiculous. It has made me want to rage-quit the game on many occasions.
Good, let these people leave. I used to play WoW for 5 years and the end-game consisted of raiding with 25/40 other people. It was okay fun but not really that fun. I’m glad GW2 doesn’t have this because I’m sick and tired of raiding as end game. I’m not in a rush to get to level 80 and having a blast exploring the different zones and discovering how to get a certain Vistas/POI.
I’d like to see a 3rd Soldier profession. Maybe call it a Vanquisher or Ravager. Something fearsome. It would be the opposite of a guardian. A soldier that dons heavy armor but wields dark magic / channels wrath or anger to weaken foes, heal self and etc…
You don’t have to be in a group to be “sociable” in this game. I’m having fun with players who walk beside me for a couple DE’s without having to be in a group. I’m having fun in map chats.
I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of player interaction in this game, but it always sounds like they somehow magically expect it to happen. If you don’t say a word, you can’t expect the player next to you to start a conversation. If you put a little effort into it, you’ll have a fun discussion in no time. And if you are the quiet type, you can still play together with other people without it being awkward.
So no, I do not think GW2’s system of grouping and playing together makes the game less social. It’s the players themselves that make the community, not the mechanics of the game. And compared to GW1, this game has a more vibrant community, IF you are willing to put in the effort.
Exactly. People seem to think this game is bad for grping because it doesn’t FORCE you to group. I think its fine
Alright, I’mma go get myself killed (my character I mean) in front of an NPC and see if he/she tries to ress me.
Elementalist is a downright joke. I need to “stance dance” so much and kite all over the place just to be able to take down ordinary mobs, this gets worst when I face champion or veteran mobs.
Now I play warrior/guardian/ranger as well and these 3 classes beat the elementalist in terms of ease of use and performance. I could take damage, dish out sufficient damage and with a little effort take down veterans solo.
I am noticing this as well and its pretty creepy to see a seam appearing at the mid section of your character. I really hope Anet will fix this graphical glitch soon
All my character are Ascalonians
Syreniel Valorhart – Guardian
Azuriel Gaelera – Elementalist, I name her the same as my GW1 Character
I’m sorry but alot of areas’ respawn are kinda wonky (if wonky is even a word). I was in Caledon Forest and the nightmare court just kept spawning on me. One after the other! This happens in plains of Ashford as well (charr starter area / former ascalon).
Sorry OP and those that agree with him. WoW had some of the ugliest armor I ever came across. Granted some armor in WoW actually looks pretty nice and bad azz (forum won’t let me spell kitten ) but they seem to be in the minority.
So what it really comes down to is this. Looks are all subjective, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.
A ele might be able to stack the same stats but will never be as durable as a heavy armor wearer. That’s a fact in PvE and PvP, My ele with 30 points in earth 20 in water I struggle against 2+ mobs with dodging and using utility my guardian and warrior can afk 1 spam 2 guys to death.
And this is especially true when I also play the guardian and ranger. Both classes can take down mobs faster and take more hits than my ele is able to.
I understand that maybe there is suppose to be a trade-off but elementalist skills need to have longer CC duration or they need to do more dmg. Either that make their traits more synergistic because most of them seem useful only if you attune to one element at one time. If you are specialized in air, switching to fire does not confer you much bonuses and you are suppose to “stance dance” like the warrior in WoW to be effective.
I like the idea of being able to gain experience through crafting but I think more can be done to add value to it.
Perhaps a means for players to diversify and specialize in their crafts? Specializations such as the following below that can also be tiered (Rank 1 / Rank 2 / Rank 3 etc…);
1. Enhanced durability (+ 5% / 10 % / 15 % / 20 % / 25%)
2. Stat Boost (+ 1% / 3% / 5% / 7% / 10%)
3. Additional Stats (Item can have more than one attribute)
4. Additional sockets (+ 1 socket / 2 socket / 3 socket)
5. Additional color option (I.e an item with one color palette choice now gets two etc)
6. Comfortable (improve energy regeneration by 1%/2%/3%/4%/5%)
7. Light Weight (improve weapon skill cooldown by 0.5%/1%/1.5%/2%/2.5%)
8. Potent (improves weapon dmg/healing by 1%/2%/3%/4%/5%)
9. Reinforcement (improves armor bonuses by 1%/2%/3%/4%/5%)
10. Radiant (extends the radius of ally friendly skills by 1/2/3/4/5 range)
11. Reverse Engineer (Allows learning of a recipe by salvaging raid/dungeon dropped items)
etc…
This ensures no two crafter will be similar to one another. And if done similarly to how we put points into traits, this will also mean that crafters will not be able to specialize in everything and will have to be selective on what they want to be known for.
To add on, these specialization could also be a form of rewards for characters completing certain crafting tasks, which can range from mundane to down-right challenging. This might give crafters more things to do and extend the life of the game.
I can definatly say, I would have considered myself a newcomer interacting with the one guy in the lodge. I was interested, he was teaching me how to say and do, whats polite and not. Then OPO comes along and refuses to acknowledge or help, only to tell me to shut up and to leave. So my “newcomer” experience lasted about 30 mins. I would pretty much say im done and am not for the RPrs.
I get what you mean. I never liked those Roleplaying guilds who are extremely snobby and exclusive. If you aren’t in their circle, you are literally non-existent. It does nothing to help the community at all and just gives the rest a bad name.
I’m a roleplayer myself and I find it absolutely disgusted at the way the OP is being treated. IMO, they need to react IC as to why they are not lending a hand instead of breaking character/going OOC and calling OP a troll.
It just doesn’t give others a good impression about Roleplayers and discourages newcomers from participating in it.
Here is what I would like to see in an expansion, though some of it has been covered by other posters already.
1. New Weapons (Great Axe / Pole Arms / Cross Bows / Claws / Flails / Whips)
2. New Customization options for character creation
a. Barber feature to change hair styles
b. Polymorph potion to change character size/face/gender
3. Housing, which features additional storage / decoration options
a. Trophy items that can be displayed in houses
b. Carpentry, for crafting furniture for decoration
4. Mounts as collectibles, minor speed boost
5. New Playable races
6. New Professions (Perhaps another soldier class? Given the Guardian is successor of the Paragon and Monk, perhaps a successor of the necromancer and another class?)
7. New Continents (Could be re-visit to continents featured in GW1 or newly discovered landmass other than Tyria)
8. Mercenaries (Similar to GW1, your mercenary can actually be one of your other toons)
9. New & Additional story choices at character creation, to add new variety and re-vitalize personal storylines for existing professions.
8. Extension of personal storylines

Likewise, I was a bit surprised to see that many Ascalonians in DR. I would expect an a mixture of Ascalonians and Elonians followed by Canthans who numbered the least.
While I do look back and think of these games fondly. Ultima, DAoC etc…
I am also painfully aware that I am no longer the same person I used to be, I have grown older and is now responsible for more than just myself. What that translate into is that I simply don’t have as much time, patience and energy to devote myself into playing games. So yeah, I will bear nostalgic feelings towards these old school games but I wouldn’t play them anymore.
Nowadays, I am simply happy that there are casual games that cater to audiences such as myself. Its all about striking that perfect balance between keeping people challenged and not turning the game into a 2nd job.
Gelrod, yet you don’t get the benefit of them when out of the attunement outside of the base trait bonus to stats. That’s the problem. There needs to be an inherent ‘lingering attunement’ phase which can be extended by the Arcana trait line, which would benefit both Arcana users and all elemental specs.
I get what you mean and that annoys me to no end about the elementalist. Traits seems to work so much easier on my Guardian and Ranger since they are synergistic with one another.
I want my endgame to be what Anet is going to give me, more stuff to explore. I have never been a fan of
“Oh let me run this instance over and over again so I can get gear to run this other instance over & over again”
I want to explore, craft a bit, hang out with friends and make my characters look good with things I find or work for around Tyria.
imho “Endgame” is a horrible concept which should have never been put into MMORPGS the whole point of these types of games is that there is no end because you’re always seeking the next adventure, making the next great discovery and exploring the world.
So my endgame will be exactly what Anet will do, which is adding more content for me to experience while hanging out with friends.
I feel the same way but I would also like to see some new features that introduces new things to do in the game. These new activities could either improve your character’s abilities or it could do none of that or it could just give us more cosmetic / collectible options.
Or it could even be as wild as being able to build your own boat and sail on the waters. Or having your own house / vendors even if it doesn’t make the player more powerful.
That’s not what it’s about at all devious. It’s about how many different elements of the game can come together to make a player feel trapped in a hopeless situation. I have logged out in frustration too a couple of times.
It can be solved by developers being more conscientious of things like re-spawn rates, level design (especially underwater levels) and being kinder for missing a jump in some of them jumping puzzles. Some jumping puzzles have such awkward terrain and player box problems that cause weird behaviours and camera issues which in turn make make very specific jumps artificially more difficult then they should be.
I agree the respawn rates are really crazy at times. By the time I killed the 2nd mob, the first mob respawns again right behind me. It actually happened an hour ago, was overwhelmed by centaurs, killed a few of them, then get KO. Rallied and got back up, kill centaurs again and KO again. Rinse repeat.
This went on for at least 3 times by then I withstood like 6 waves of centaurs all by myself. I reckoned I killed at least 30 of these. And this isn’t the only time that it happened and is significantly worst if it takes you forever to kill a mob.
Humans are a race that is currently pretty heavily on the ropes. Also Orr lore is pretty heavily human focused so perhaps it helps balance out the lore to have the other races play major roles in the Zhaitan story.
Technically the humanity also still has Cantha and Elona as major population areas.
We don’t really know what happen to these places. Elona was taken over by Palawa Joko iirc, Cantha adopted an isolationist policy and cut themselves off from the rest of Tyria.
That was one of the big selling points on humans for me: A defeated people, decreasing in size and power but always retaining an inspiring, yet equally tragic, tenacity. It’s alot more romantic than the Norn or Asura, at least.
Yeah that is what draws me in about them. Also partly because of I played GW1 Prophecy. Visiting charr lands (Ascalonian ruins) as my human was somewhat emotional gaming experience. Yes, I’m a lore geek
I have always treated GW & GW2 as casual gaming experience as compared to WoW which I simply have no time nor patience for any longer.
Its true that GW2 didn’t really revolutionize the MMO genre but I’m still having fun for now. I personally feel that the people who are disappointed may have set their expectations a little too high.
Granted some of these may or may not be the fault of the player, since the Marketing tends to hype up the game to ensure better sales. Another example would be Mass Effect 3.
Now criticisms aside, what would revolutionize the MMO genre?
MMO bandwagoners are realizing this isn’t the MMO they want, they probably have nostalgia for an old MMORPG and suspect whenever a new MMORPG releases that claims to be different it means it’s their old MMORPG V2. They try it out, it’s not their thing, they complain on the forums, demanding the game be changed to their nostalgia rose-tinted glasses view.
Oh this is so true. I know because I happen to fall into these category.
My first MMO was Ultima Online (UO). And for those that don’t know, it is a fantasy inspired, SANDBOX mmo.
So as I migrate over to the new MMOs, the changes I clamor for most are those features would personalize your experience. Which existed in UO / SWG: Housing & the ability to decorate them with furniture, armor dyes, social outfits/costumes, personal boats, crafted goods that is competitive/on par with dungeon/raid drops, etc etc…
I personally found the best community to be City of Heroes, another NCSOFT game. (But it is going to be axed by NCSOFT itself). Questions about the game, builds & etc are often answered in the help channel by players themselves. Some would even go out of their way to team with you for an hour or so if you needed help when there are no incentive for them to do so.
The most toxic and noxious communities I ever came across is WoW. People are generally unfriendly, unhelpful and occasionally mean spirited, but that may have something to do with the fundamental core design of the game. Especially when it competes players against each other for in game resources.
Raid slots, mobs need for mats/quests, raw material nodes and etc…
It is true that GW2 itself hasn’t really revolutionize the MMO genre. Most heart quest, challenges and events have been done before in past by other games. The formula is pretty much the same, do XYZ and the progression bar towards quest completion moves by a %.
So its nothing really new here. BUT… what it gets right is that it eliminates a lot of the tedium that is normally associated with MMORPGs, such as;
1. Find NPC with Quest
2. Click on NPC to take Quest
3. Go out and do Quest
4. Return to NPC to hand in Quest
The other thing that also really like about GW2 is that I still get EXP even if I didn’t tag the mob and just joined in attacking after fight have started. The player who started the fight gets exp/loot, I get exp/loot. I can also join a caravan escort while coming across it, instead of going to the pickup point and start all over.
Not only that, reviving fallen players also net you a small exp reward. Your level also gets auto-tuned to the zone that you are in. Making it possible for your lvl 23 charr to go group up with your lvl 5 Asura friend who just picked up the game.
To be honest, I’m not sure how much more creative or innovative one can get at MMO game design. With incentives that encourages people to work together and be helpful, I feel that this would foster a more cooperative environment and a better community.
Sure, there are some rabid fans who would bite your head off for criticizing the game.
However you can find these sort of people almost everywhere. MMOs/ other games / sports/political views/religion etc etc…
I haven’t read the entire thread…
but from a game design perspective it would be idiotic.
the world isn’t made to be traversed by use of mount. it’s to dense. to much water. to much mobs.
The world isn’t which is why some others have said it can be a cosmetic collectible for people who WANT to get into it. For those that thinks its pretty dumb or stupid, you can choose not to buy one. No one is forcing you to.
There are no plans to flag a World as an official role-play Word. The amount of customer support overhead involved in enforcing RP names, in-character chat, etc., not to mention creating policies and rules governing RP, is a massive undertaking. We would prefer that community members self-organize.
in other words, grow a pair, creat a rp only guild and BAM
I suppose it is up to the RP community to help themselves. Get the word out there that TC is the RP server. I think the same happened for City of Heroes (even though it is being axed by NCSOFT) Virtue was the unofficial RP server for god knows how long.
And people who want to RP would gravitate towards this server. Although they are also a sizeable amount of non-RP players in Virtue, who partly came here because Virtue has sizable population that still plays and an awesome community.
