Radiance adds more dmg to sword than honor does.
Sword cd reduction, torch /GS though the dmg is probably still on Virtues + Zeal
In addition to that Radiance still hosts the old Powerfull Blades trait (10% dmg to sword/spear) under Retribution. And i don’t understand why they don’t update the tooltip.
Anyways even with the symbol change on sword it only gives it a QoL for pvp only. In terms of pve dmg increase it’s about the same and sword still lack as a DPS weapon in raids/fotm (compared to our other sets).
I was hoping for something different from sword but i guess the devs can’t get away from Zeal.
I’m sorry, but there isnt any way for another player to control the status of the point without either being on the point, or by having direct acsess to the server
Then how do you explain our home point getting fully capped at the start of the game by this Necro, while i rushed home on my tempest using lightning flash and Fiery Greatsword for mobility with swiftness on. Then he goes invisible, then i can’t hit him while he is downed i cannot stomp him and can’t do nothing.

There is no damage modifier in Honor for symbols. The minor you are referring to is in Zeal https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Symbolic_Power.
Honor has https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Writ_of_Persistence which increases the size and duration of symbols, and also adds healing to them.
What i’m referring to is the “Zealous Blade” trait from Zeal, which increases the damage of all GS skills by 5% and reduces the CD by 20%. Symbol of Wrath is bugged because it doesn’t receive the 5% damage increase from the trait, which it should because it’s a GS ability.
I know this is not new for some people, but it seems it’s still under dev radar.
Zealous Blade: The 5% dmg mod doesn’t apply to the Symbol of Wrath skill on GS.
P.S. – please change the healing component to “1% of maximum health on critical hit on burning foes”, 25 health per attack is way too low even when hitting multiple enemies. Do i even need to compare how bad this trait is compared to warrior’s might stacking on critical hit? What even…
Retribution - It’s still the old Powerful Blades trait which increases Sword and Spear dmg by 10%. I’m not complaining, i like the old trait better anyways. Can we at least have the tool tip description fixed so people won’t feel that bad when picking up sword instead of mace.
Just for a second i will break the healing debate and will say that guardian might compete for a DPS spot in raids. This is just me with only “napkin” maths.
I haven’t tried DH in a raid, ironically i was playing DPS Shiro/Herald, but i did tried DH in a Arah trio.
I can say that the ammount of dmg multipliers we will have from Zeal, Radiance and DH will result in some gross numbers output. This is even more true with the new https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pure_of_Sight minor that we didn’t had available on the last BWE.
I was doing 9 – 11k mace autos in Arah on a risen Elite, with only Force/Frailty sigils no Undead potion and no new pure of sight trait. Ohh, i fogot to mention no warrior/ranger buffs and, wait for it.. 0 might!. I don’t recall if vuln was capped on the target but i was playing with a Scrapper/Reaper.
Now imagine all those multipliers with Force/Impact sigils (impact for when the boss is stunned) with Scepter Smite getting 13%!! from pure of sight and torch hitting like a truck, then switch to mace/hammer for melee.
So yeah, i don’t think we will compete for support, at least for the first boss anyways.
People complain about not being able to keep enemies in they’re symbols and that guardian doesn’t have mobility. What do they do? They ask for symbols on Sword which is our last tool that comes close to any sort of mobility. Logic at it’s finest on the guardian forum. I’m speechless.
Our only condie weapon is Torch (well hybrid, cause it also crits for a lot on a power specc). We don’t need another one because we have Supreme Justice, Permeating Wrath and VoJ. I saw someone else in another thread suggesting that sword should be made to have more condie aplication, which i’m totally against.
We are not warriors to have a backup power weapon like Axe. Scepter is pure offensive but it doesn’t cleave and it’s mid-range. Mace is only lucky due to how bad Zeal is designed to the point that it meakes you feel stupid for not taking a symbol based weapon, not to mention mace is designed as a defensive tool at first.
This leaves sword as our only melee offensive 1Hander. @Ragnar the Rock.3174 I like that “true multi hit cleave” idea for the 3rd hit, and i would like to add that we don’t profit as much from our blinds as we could. We could have a great GM trait in radiance that could enhance our blind aplication skills (vuln on blind does not cut it), like a dmg % mod or an interesting mechanic.
Sword 2: Would be great if we could use that without a target. I would even go on in suggesting for 2 charges (10s CD) so you can dash in and out of combat without the need of a map critter. Power guards would really appreciate that, since we are not like the other brawler specs, not built for sustain. I was hoping Anet learned this by now.
Sword 3: Only thing i’d change is to remove the root and give it a DMG boost (~25%) if foes are blinded or burning. That would differentiate it from the auto-atack and could be also used for a dmg increase in bursting.

Before you, we had someone that wasn’t interested in buying, he just wanted to “talk” about what’s new with the game… we kicked him so many times, he kept spamming join, making people leave the party, while i was kiting Mai Trin. We didn’t want to risk a wipe/reset so was only natural to boot you too.

As I read some of these comments, it definitely sounds like we don’t really know what we want. We might have a vague idea, but we aren’t really good at articulating what we’re missing. Even if we got everything we asked for, I’d be willing to bet we’d still be unhappy.

It’s ok to voice your concerns but at least make it something that’s not moronic. Complaining that you need to get HoT to be able to play Raids is the same as Diablo 3 players complaining that they had to buy Reaper of Souls to play the 5th chapter, Greater Rifts/Bounties and access to Crusader class.
I don’t know why this community gave birth to some of the most entitled and spoiled group of people out of all the games I saw. It’s really not funny anymore and it’s insulting to the devs. Grow up for god’s sake.
I want to think i’m not the only one that says this is a bad idea. With all due respect to all the “burn guards” and the ones that forgot that mace is a defensive weapon at first, sword was, and it still is our main DPS 1 hander, this is even more true for zerker/marauder medi guards. The fact that Zeal overly benefit’s symbols is not an excuse to rethink the problem and try to find a solution for Sword to retake it’s ex position as the best 1H Melee DPS.
If anything I would rather encourage scepter get’s a new trait in the lines of “smite has a chance to trigger additional burning ticks or w/e”. This would also help Condi Guard in Pve for single target burn dmg, as we know it’s lacking in that department. Any decent guard knows Zeal in it’s current iteration is not healthy for our other weapon sets.
And if we are talking about adding a new condition, I would rather have torment than bleeding.

I’ll give some nerfs but also some buffs without going into specific details.
- Make Renewed Focus our F4
- Come up with a transformation Elite for our new meditation
- Adjust/nerf the other 2 elites
- Completely remove the healing component from Meditation Mastery and replace it with something new (for ex: meditations reduce your weapons skills by 15%), keep the fury.
- Come up with a new mechanic that helps our sustain that benefit’s from our Virtues/Weapons without making Altruistic Healing Overpowered.
- Reduce the stacks of burning from Torch/JI/Purging Flames, greatly increase those stacks if certain criteria’s are met. Those criteria’s assumes skillful play.
- (still on burning) with the above changes make sure the PvE build doesn’t suffer and it is greatly compensated.
- Mace: Is our best bunker weapon in pvp, due to Zeal minor’s and SA is also our best DPS weapon in PvE. Change this so Sword is Number 1 again for DPS/power builds.
- Incorporate Symbolic Power and Symbolic Exposure into Valor line.
There would be many more but those should be a start.

I don’t think he is. I wouldn’t want those skills on guard shield. Self root? We already have that. And that swirl with the healing doesn’t look impressive at all.
I would like to bump this thread because it seems it got buried by the DH beta week and now people forgot about it and all the new Shield related threads are adding clutter to the guard forum.
It’s easier for developers to have all the info regarding shield in one thread, especially since it’s already been replied to by the devs themselves.

Ok, agree. Would be nice to have more unique effects that stack on top of the regular condies/boons. And tbh I don’t think symbols should be a Zeal thing. I want my sword back as top DPS. I hate the fact that sword lost it’s top DPS position to mace (PVE meta wise), which is funny as mace is also our defensive 1H weapon. I think that Symbolic Exposure and Symbolic Power should be in Valor, along side with Glacial Heart.
Zeal needs to get some real minor’s that apply more general. Ohh and don’t get me started on radiance GM’s.
Symbols are combo field and a team support tool. Why does symbolic avenger only give you the damage buff when the whole point of these things is to support the team?

This. Two years back, both Amins and GotBoons were some of the few that shared knowledge that went beyond your typical AH/shout/bunker guard.
And OP I know you mentioned WvW but it’s not hard to get on a duel server in pvp with a condie amulet/build, and ask people for a few fights. Or ask for a condie guard for a duel. (just to save you some gold/gear). Whatever you get there is going to be even more aids in WvW.
That’s not what the Guardian needs though. I feel Wrath of Justice should be the F4 along with Radiant Fire. This way Burn Guardians don’t have to sacrifice dps for a CC they could use, and other builds don’t have to be forced to use Torch to throw Zealot’s Flame when Radiant Fire procs. This is more QoL than a buff and it needs to happen, imo.

So you basically want to throw Zealot’s Fire with any weapon equipped.
What Guards Really need as a buff? Allow us to teleport anywhere with Merciful Intervention. If no Ally present, reduce the teleport range by half and we receive no base heal effect. If an Ally is present, we receive the base heal effect. This way, Mesmers don’t need much of a nerf and we’ll complain less about Celestial Eles because we’ll Maybe be able to outplay them by not getting kited as bad.
So mesmers only needs a nerf because our lack of teleports, NOT because it is strong in general compared to most profession? And us, teleporting any ware we want will solve our sustain issues against ele’s.

Actually, OP has something here. It does sound pretty strong to have it as your 4th virtue, (depending on the passive or group effect) or maybe as an energy bar like warrior burst skills, on top of our regular virtues? I don’t know but it could be one of the biggest change in guardians history, and you could finally pick any elite, every ware and any ware you want.
That would be the dream.
Even more, imagine our current meditation elite, Renewed Focus becoming something like Rampage but our own transformation, our own flavor. I would support this to make it balanced.
Edit: Actually if you look at it, Mesmer already has up to 3s Distortion on it’s F4. Not the same thing, but pretty close.

I use the same setup, only I pick up UC in virtues. And I switch to Radiant Fire when i’m playing with Rampager’s Amulet and torch.
Terrible build, to be expected though.
It’s basically the old 0.6.6.1.1 without vigor but with the full virtues line at your disposal. You have nice burst and great team support in the same time. I don’t know why you would call that terrible :/. Or you mean terrible as in a good way? Sorry if I didn’t picked up the sarcasm.
Forcing break stuns helps in beating a medi guard (either power specc or burn/hybrid), as it’s stab is very limited.
I had some issues with Mace/Shield – GS warriors. Add Healing Signet active + Berzerker Stance and you have some decent time of Burn + Blind Immunity. Picking also Shield trait which reflects projectile’s it’s very helpful as you can reflect his Sword auto, GS WW torch throw or Scepter auto.
So yeah, force some break stuns (Ji and CoP) then land Mace burst and switch to GS 100b and it’s GG.
For mesmers, don’t get baited into Purging Flames, avoid torch trow. It’s usually a good idea to start with torch stealth so he can’t target you and Ji in for the burst. Then Blink behind him and do your GS rotto, strip stab and try to Mirror Blade into Shelter. That hurts. Also it’s a good idea to specc into Inspiration if you want a safer play.
When I read titles like this asking for THE guardian build I can’t help letting out a sigh …
There are many builds for many roles with many flavours for many contexts. There is no single build to rule them all. What you’re really asking for here without realizing is " what is the best pugging build that will give me bags without me dying in a Zerg and maybe give some support so I’m not the ultimate pug?"
I don’t think OP was asking for a single build to do all of the type of tasks a guardian can perform in different group settings. He prolly asked for the standard Staff/Hammer AH/Frontline build.

Why people insist in making us even more static or symbol dependent? If let’s say we were to get symbols for Sword and Scepter then people would complain that they are forced to take Zeal for every freaking build.
Sword is fine how it is now and it’s our most versatile weapon set. It only lacks a real GM in Radiance (They CAN do better than FREAKING “Perfect Inscriptions” and “Radiant Retaliation”)
As for Zeal I would be up for a the minors to be changed into something else that are more of a benefit to our class mechanic than specific to our symbols.

Question is, can we layer our own symbols to gain a 20% modifier for a short burst…or is it a flat 10%? I’m fine with it not stacking with others because that was broken, but self stacking was interesting.

I think the new Scepter trait was changed to discourage scepter camping imo, it probably was designed to get some might stacks, via Scepter (Supreme Justice and Torch helps) then switch to GS and go for the burst.
Ideally it doesn’t sound bad, but in reality the might generated from scepter is not enough to justify that playstyle.
And yeah, having it compete with FW is bad, and I still cringe about the design decisions of our Radiance and Zeal GM’s. SA is going to be good after fix, Shattered aegis is ok for pvp, Spirt Weapons should not be in Zeal GM (ideally they should be removed), and besides Amplified Wrath, the other GM’s in Radiance are a complete filler and not even worth looking at.
I like the torch trait a lot, I like the fact that now we finally have fury outside meditations and SyS. I just don’t get why they push retal in such a weird way, and saying that retal is a guard thing when other classes have it aswell. I don’t have words really. It’s like they started with an awesome idea, and then got bored in the process and messed everything up. Ohh boy, need to stop here.
My thanks for the build. Its so strong and cheesy, it almost feels like im sitting in the middle of cheese factory when im playin that kitten.
Ehh, with the added ICD’s on MotP and Amp W, burn guard is not so cheese compared to other condie specs. But I agree, burning still strong.
Radiance / Valor / Virtues
I’ve been messing with Rampagers amu and Flame Legion runes. Like you get around 67% Critchance without fury, RHS and Radiant Power. So the dmg is decent, and you also have 900 condie dmg to make some nice +3k burn ticks. Only down side is you have only 11k HP and Absolute Resolution is a must. Also the lack of vigorous precision makes you also consider for energy sigils on both swaps.
I 100-0’ed a Mesmer and she told me something about “wtf 24k burning”.

I guess it’s a shock to most people that they lost the free stats from the trait’s. Damage might be high but no one is forcing you to go glass, build more defensively, change amulet, play with builds. People will stop going all glass when a new build will get discovered that counters certain speccs.
Let it rest for a bit. And as for Anet, wee NEED more frequent updates like this. I know it’s important to take it easy and change a few things at a time, but you guys took too freaking long. See how many people are happy that they have new stuff to play around. It should be standard as classes to receive fixes and or interesting changes more frequently.
It’s damage has been increased I think to 600+ base. Which Karl explained that in one of the tests they achieved 1k crit’s in “pretty tanky” gear. I assume a full glass 6/6/6/0/0 medi build will get pretty high numbers.
Also as far as I remember the shatter dmg is 5 targets AoE from each aegis that has been stripped. That includes yours and the allies that your applied it too. This would create some interesting play with Communal Defenses. Imagine +3k crits from 5 players while you reapply it again…
Seems like Symbolic Avenger also getting toned down.
The CD is nice, but that’s not the problem, its the Shield of Judgement that lacks, being almost useless. And Shield of Absorption is buggy and the dome doesn’t last for the 4s duration.
You can give all the CD reduction still won’t make shield usable.
There were talks about giving Aegis on Shield 4? What happened to that idea?

Depending how Shattered Aegis works out, Communal Defense could be pretty good and we might get a sick burst build out of that. I agree no reason to take shield CD but if we compare Empowering Allies (150 power) vs SiN (150 toughness) they are not quite equal, just sharing the same number. SiN should give at least 250 Toughness to have the same impact that EA has.
I don’t understand why anet doesn’t release a separate open beta client like Blizzard does with D3 (and WoW I think) for top players to test and them to monitor and collect data, instead of havaing to wait for a year for a few minimal changes.
Although there is still something that I see appealing in Guardian, that only can last for so long. Morfeus is totally right, guardian play is so one dimensional that it’s not even fun anymore.
I was soo excited about Symbolic Avenger and a few other things like Shattered Aegis but those were completely overshadowed by the fact that they butchered Radiance GM’s (still pushing that condi retal crap making me rage) and Honor seems like a line without adepts or masters. Shield is still crying some ware full of dust and instead of giving us a Power to Healing % convertor with cool mechanic in Zeal they keep that Kindled Bullkitten. Anet pushing out strong words like Zeal and Wrath out of every guardian orifice but there is no true Zealot going on. Just big words.
Spamming shouts to proc Trooper runes is not fun for me.
Meditations are getting old now, and it’s not fun either to use your actual utilities for a 1 button heal.

- Guardian (currently) – 3s, AoE @1200 range /180s CD (elite)
- Thief – 4s single target /35s CD (with 0 points in Trickery) – only by stealing from guard
So, they should steal things like endure pain and spectral walk? I’m down
Ok, now let’s be reasonable, base line Steal is 35s with no points invested in Trickery. Of course you won’t give thief abilities that are on higher CD than Steal itself.
Point i’m I’m trying to make is there’s now way the devs can’t squeeze in at least a 1s daze in one of guards weapons/traits. If Thief can adapt the mace and use it to “smack”, it’s just funny that guard can’t.
God knows how many threads has been made to ask for some Soft CC. (pls don’t mention DH, i’m talking about the core specc)
Jokes aside, all I want is a 1s daze on Mace somehow, even if traited. Or on shield.
I’m also starting to save my Raiders chest for a full set of Zealot’s. Whether we will have content or not that is going to make full use of that we’ll have to see. With the new traits to come something like 18.104.22.168.6 will make use of those Zealot’s stat’s. You get both the damage bonus on symbols from Zeal and you get the Symbols last longer, are bigger and also heal from Honor. Making both Hammer or Mace viable.
I don’t know about the shield or Staff, we have to see if Anet changes our shield. I would still recommend focus.
Don’t be fixed on playing just 2 weapons, different encounters requires different weapon set’s, if you don’t understand this don’t be surprised if you get kicked.
Or just play with people that don’t care and you should be good with anything then.
The only weapon that really lacks is shield, other than that I use all of the guardian weapons in different situations. Especially in fractals.
There is no such thing as GS spam, whoever does that has no clue on how the game works and doesn’t understand rotations or he/she is getting carried.
If we are not talking about PvE than this only solidifies my argument even more.
To every Mesmer that is high on skill and “the shatter classic build” doesn’t satisfy them anymore I will recommend the guardian burst equivalent to the classic shatter (not the current meta medi build lol). Try 2/6/6/0/0 in hot join with Bane Signet instead of CoP and come back and tell us about your faceroll experience on guardian.
Or is Vigor something that Mesmers take for granted these days

Thing is, you guys steal Whirling Axe from warriors, and that’s a legit warrior weapon skill. Head Mace Crack doesn’t fit the criteria.

Agree. It wouldn’t be fun to go against if it were on Prot. Strike. Symbol of Faith would be a good contender for the cast time for ex on the first initial strike, 0,5s daze. But the CD again is too low i guess. And i bet Oxtred would disagree again for Pve, and i agree too.
I only hope for shield then, if it’s ever going to be able to block. To have an extra trait, similar to Missile Deflection but instead “foes get dazed when you block their attacks with your shield”.
It seems some people think I have a problems with thieves. I like thief. And if I ever lose to one I applaud and I accept that I’ve been outplayed. And no, it doesn’t mean that guardian automatically counters all thief specs. That’s a stretch. But w/e.
Yeah true Prot. Strike once triggered it’s instant, PBAoE dmg also. Adding daze would make it a little bit stronger in a DPS setup (but only in melee). It still gets triggered at range by the first attack. And it balances out on bunker guards. That thing hit’s with negative DPS. And if people know the guard is bunker they don’t even care the blue shield is up so it would make people be more careful imo.
Why? because of Defiance? I don’t think that people that go for speed clear records don’t have that covered on Voice COM’s.
That’s the problem, Bunker guard was made obsolete for a long time now, since the 3 Celestial dominant professions, which besides CC they also have sustain, mobility and damage, Bunker guard was only an annoyance and an easy pray without people around him “to support” lol the jukes.
I don’t mind thief stealing daze from guard, but at least we should have it in the first place for thief to steal it lol. Our only daze lasts 3s and it’s on 180s CD. And even this will go away.

Seriously now, in what world does a thief have more daze than a heavy armor mace wielding, almost non existent soft CC? Guardian.
I mean, i’m just curious how can a thief can steal a 4s daze from a Guardian, not even counting thief’s own dazes, when Guardian doesn’t even have daze on any weapon set, apart from Pacifism which is on 20s CD in a 180s CD elite that lasts 30s, when traited, and soon to be removed. I think this is both funny and insulting.
I understand balance but this is not even at a common sense level. I know guardian has an edge to most certain thieves specs, but please this is laughable.
Either change what thief steals from guardian, like aegis or whatever make the thieves choose, or give Guardians a 1s Daze on Protectors Strike. Which would be imo the best choice.
Guardian’s Mace it’s a slow hitting weapon, not only that, our block (Protector’s Strike) also get’s triggered by range attacks. Basically it’s another aegis. At least give us the god kitten daze on it. Would also help out bunker builds get the well deserved soft CC.
Now a question to people that main thief. Do you find this fair? Does this even make sense to you? Couse sure it doesn’t make to me. This has been bugging me for a long while, please Karl help me out on this.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT NERFING THIEF OR ME HAVING DIFFICULTIES WITH THIEVES IN PVP. IT’S ABOUT THIEVES STEALING SOMETHING THAT OUR CLASS DOESN’T HAVE. FOR ALL I CARE IT COULD BE THE BANE SIGNET ACTIVE EFFECT (3s KNOCKDOWN) OR SHIELD OF WRATH.

My first skin was Spear, second was Trident I think. My last 2 (unique) skins were Mace and GS. After that (next week) I got another 2 maces in the same day (50/40). Currently missing Focus and Shield.
To note, I got most of my skins after they fixed the lvl 50 drop rate. (Which was not so long ago if I recall).
P.S. I want end-game fractal armor skin. Ideally, the look would be unique for each profession/gender. Ok i’ll stop here.
The single best thing for a dps guard, imo, is Renewed Justice. Especially if you want to clear camps fast.
Then comes the question if you need the extra condie clear from F2.
If yes: 0.3.6.1.4 I find it the most balanced build, superior to 22.214.171.124.4. Some People just don’t get how useful RJ is. I use Sword/Focus – Hammer with that build.
If no: 0.6.6.1.1 for sc/t – sw/f or 126.96.36.199.1 and 188.8.131.52.0 fo max burst sw/f – GS
