Sounds interesting. I’d like separate WvW balance to be next. I don’t want boon meta to die, just get leukemia.

It’s funny they should mention the first poll. The context makes it sound like this is the clear #1 request from the community, yet in the thread they made prior to the polls, skill balance won by a fair margin. That part seems to have been forgotten.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that they’re working on something WvW related.. but I do wonder what happened to “future balance updates will take WvW into consideration” (paraphrased from MO).

I’m also not convinced by this new system. It’s a band aid on runaway matches, but people are still going to be logging in to empty maps ~18 hours of the day.

What is funny whatsoever is that people still have no clue how things works on Guild Wars 2. WvW devs are not responsible over profession balance. They might, perhaps, give feedback but all decisions are made by the balance team.

Threads with title like this are a bit tricky, there can be good suggestions but still be dismissed, perhaps even by devs, because the title says it is a rant.

Anyway, I believe a good and easy way to avoid further problems with people who don’t meet the AR requirement is an adjustment to the way the party enters the island and an UI improvement.

Make it so everyone in the party needs to step on the portal area for a ready check which will also make a quick check on each character’s Agony Resistance. Add the information in the ready window with the fractal level, the fractal island, the suggested agony resistance and which characters meet or not the requirement. Something like this:

Check the ping through your route by using the pathping command on the cmdos or a program like PingPlotter.

Windows Search tool type: cmd

On the command prompt type: pathping -w 500 -q 100 -4 64.25.39.1

Wait for statics, usually takes 3 to 9 minutes.
Check out the hops for the latency and possible package loss.

If there is a problem on your route, it will show on the pathping. If the problem is on the first hops, it is on your ISP side; in case of mid it is a route problem and it is very unlikely you will get support for it but can still try to contact your ISP for a possible re-route; and if it is the last hops the issue might be on Anet’s side.

If there is no indication of latency issues, you might want to keep testing to make sure the problem isn’t there and if still don’t find any evidence, contact support to help you.

New to GW2 PVP - character level question

No, it wouldn’t make any difference. Guild Wars 2 PvP normalizes the stats making it equal for every player, be the characters level 2 or 80.

All you need is to make sure have, at least, 3 pieces of armor (the ones you start with) and the desired weapon set. Pick your preferable amulet, runes and gear, set your build and you are good to go.

Will PvP pips also go back to what we had in the morning?

Yes, whatever progression you had on PvP got rolled back as well. If you won or lost pip, it will go back to the same amount you had before the period window between the backup and the patch.

So you are complaining about the 4 Dragonhunters on the other team but not the 3 Druids on your team? Do I have to point out that any player who have any idea how to play as Druid can counter a Dragonhunter?

Druid isnt DH’s hard counter. Against a good player on DH, you will have trouble surviving the 2nd or 3rd round of burst, while he still/again has block skills up.

But well, most DHs are so bad… they use all blocks at once (to make sure !) and after that you just burst them down easily with one “pet rotation”.

Only if you are playing berserker weird builds or something like OP which I stand by my statement that Druid can counter, it has the upper hand against DH. Also, I didn’t said hard counter.

I have yet to lose to a DH on my druid as well as if anyone watched the world’s champion qualifier will see the DH struggling (dying) against druids.

Season Four Ruined by Dragon Hunters

You know what feels good? Seeing that full trap guard with Procession of Blades, as a Zeal support bruiser DH, knowing he’s probably going to kill himself from team wide retal. I know I’ve made it happen before.

You know why it feels good? Because this is turret engi level of skill. The build is broken.

WTF are you talking about???! Are you reading this thread? DH you dimwit. I win close to 100% of my games when I am on or have 2+ DHs on my team. The damage to vulnerability ratio does not exist.

DH is not a build, it’s an elite spec. Please learn the proper use of the terms. When we use the word build, we mean which combination of selected traits/utilities/weapons are you referring to? That is, are you talking about a bruiser? A bunker? A medi trapper? A full trapper? All of these builds use the DH elite trait line, so saying DH is a useless distinction.

Are you even familiar with these distinctions, or should i presume you have a profound lack of understanding on this subject?

Ya everyone is playing DH as a condi roamer, that sounds about right. Stop being dense. If you don’t know what spec DHs are running you aren’t experienced enough to be a part of this conversation.

Why don’t you enlighten us? I can think off the top of my head at least 5 different builds that I have seen Dragonhunters running. If you are going to make a QQ post, at the very least, point out a proper build, traits, skills or whatever that you think is out of tune.

I had some time to kill today and decided to watch the EU matches and made a compilation of the builds used.

Didn’t yet check all of the builds you posted but you already have a mistake in the first build of Drazeh, he actually used carrion amulet, not mender. He trolled at the start because they know casters will check their builds, which is kinda funny since Jebro wasn’t even boggled by the amulet choice and didn’t go back to check it again later. How can I know he used carrion amulet? Check his full hp after the match starts, it’s 28k something and at the start the hp is 24k something. You can confirm the hp yourself ingame. Also why would anyone run mender with the condi metabuild? I could understand if he had a decent power weapon instead of longbow since mace+shield is decent even with power builds because of the all cc. I believe you picked up the builds from the caster previewing them but you probably will have to double check every odd spec since players can swap around stuff.
Edit: You also have a wrong weapon in the build, I just went back to confirm that he was using longbow because you made me think twice lol.
Edit2: Also Denshee used lighting flash against r55 instead of aftershock like you have in your build.

Ah, I did picked on the amulet, but probably got the old link when was moving text and links around.

I am not saying those are the true real builds, there are probably errors, I didn’t re-checked all yet, only a few because it is tiresome. I was updating Denshee build on top of his old one and Aftershock slipped. In general, the builds are pretty much the same, it is just to have an idea. The ones who used a trait, profession or skill differently on the first round of the matches, fixed to go with the flow later on.

Need explanation for broken DLA system.

I don’t see exactly how the scaling down system isn’t working. A level, let’s say, 10, have the same stats as a character scaled down to level 10.

Unless you want Anet to lock down skills and traits and magically turn players equipment into blues or greens, the down scale system is working as intended. The player have the option to swap gears according to the map level as well as not use skills or traits if one wants to feel the same way as a low level player.

Raid of Capricorn starts, no one says anything about home and run full straight to mid so I go cap it. When it is done, I meet the Revenant who capped far midway to home. I kill him and push to far to decap since would take him a while to respawn.

The rev respawns and fights me on far, I kill him once again and full cap far. A DH my team killed at mid respawns and come with a berserker who pulled off mid to far to take their point back. I fight them for 2 full minutes while I see two of my team dies in mid in a 4v3 fight… our druid has to pull off mid to not die and help me finish the DH and Berserker off while our team respawns and go back to help them at mid.

At this very moment, one of those guys who died on mid call me out on team chat in all caps saying I was kittening them up on mid because I was at far. No matter that we were winning by a large margin by the way.

You are overlooking the fact you don’t get XP playing WvW and PvP. The only way to level up is through the Tomes of Knowledge. If you add the map discovery, if the case, events, mob, etc, PvE is much more rewarding and easier than the other modes.

You have to think that the dailies are balanced according to the mode. PvE is more rewarding than PvP and WvW

wtf are you talking about? look at the meta builds pre-patch. The forumla is: HoT spec (cause marketing > balance team) + 2 defensive lines. The classes that came out on top were ones that could still put out significant pressure while being heavily, if not entirely, invested in defense. Ele, engie, mesmer all say hi…

WTF are YOU talking and comparing about? Does the other professions uses 3 defensive traitline with all 9 traits being defense/support? Does the other professions uses cleric amulet on top of that to be able to be meta? What about evade? Block? Blinding? Do they depend exclusively of healing and protection to survive? Do they need to invest 100% into defense to be into meta???

So no, engi and mesmer don’t say hi. They aren’t even close to where ele stand…

You see, the problem isn’t that Anet decides to nerf. The problem is that Anet doesn’t address problematic things correctly. They just flip numbers.
Oh and these nerfs are probably gonna push ele out of meta, more than thief ever was, it’s gonna probably be as weak as warrior pre-buff.

I whole-heartedly think Menders will do a fine job. Will power builds eat you harder now? Yes, but that’s kind of okay since they were too powerful before. No one wants immovable objects. It leads to unfun gameplay.

Vitality and Healing Power don’t scale well. Mender’s was bad before for an ele and will be even worse now with the heal nerf.

Do you realize that for an ele to be “unkilable”, which isn’t exactly true, they had to take every single possible defensive trait? How is that ok? I don’t see other professions pigeonholed into defense like the ele because they have other ways to mitigate incoming damage with blinds, blocks and evasion. Removing cleric was a bad decision, other professions can benefit from the amulet as well.

Another case of treating of the symptom instead of the source. At this point the Elementalist profession need to be scrapped and start from zero because Anet has no idea how to properly balance it.

So Anet decided to finally kick the Ele all the way to the bottom?

We ask for ways to play a dps role without exploding in 3 seconds and Anet nerf lava font which is completely unreliable since hardly lands, the heals, air overload, removes cleric, give an improved version of kitteneless tornado, reduce our only block from 75s cd to 60cd LOL, reduce fire grab CD (which no one is using because who is crazy enough to run dagger offhand amid this power creep?) and buff flamestrike.

Yeah, we got this. We will rule with the supreme overpowered shatterstone and flamestrike. Feel the burn!

Glad you enjoy it and yes i take alot of pride because even though i still get trolls from our own server about it, it is all about the people who help build and join in on the fun. I know there are other sites are other sites that other people use as a matchup thread. Am just sharing the funs but granted this one was not as cool with the trebs but then i will just have to top this one next!!

Oh nice to hear it directly from you, Sit! It takes a lot of dedication to build that many siege. lol You have my respect.

The last part of my post was actually directed to the others who, being a kitten, tried to hijack the thread trying to turn it into a match up thread.

Good change. We have been asking for it for a long time now. Thanks for finally remove the craft stations, Anet.

For those saying to put the craft stations in the HoTM, as much as bad as it is to stay there with nothing to do, a big and resounding NO. Map load often is taking longer than it should during prime time. There is no need to make it longer because people are idling at the craft stations just so they can keep their PvE location. Remember we have a 2 minutes grace for disconnect and crowding HoTM to make the come back harder isn’t the solution.

Make the Obsidian Sanctum the WvW lobby, add the craft station there. However, I wouldn’t make people immune, just for the fun of it since the map is a pvp jumping puzzle/gvg/duel map. You gotta fight for your privilege to use the stations! lol

The tempest on the other team usually only becomes a problem when:

1) players don’t know how to burst them down;
2) players don’t rotate away from the tempests and scrappers (if together) to break their formation apart
3) your own team comp, specially when is pretty much support when the other have a variation of bruiser/dps/support

When I am duo queuing with my friend and the other team have 2 tempests, we both re-roll for revenant and pretty much melt them down, specially if they split by each being in one point.

Ranked PvP - D/D Tempest Viable?

I’ve played a variant of your build during the sapphire division. The difference was that used Wash the Pain Away, Eye of the Storm or Aftershock, Paladin Amulet and Sigils of Energy and Force. It worked great at that division, even managed to hold points in 1v2 due to arcane traits and a brief 1v3 fight, however I do not think will work at all in ruby.

The problem is the power creep. Since the tempest only got sustain and support traits (hello healbot), a marauder tempest, no matter the weapon, doesn’t have enough DPS to dish out some professions or builds while being very vulnerable themselves.

Condi Berserker, Revenant, Scrapper and good Daredevils can very well counter your build.

At least from my experience, there’s a whole lot of bersekers, revenants, scrappers and tempests at ruby and higher divisions compared to lower ones.

The one you were fighting near SWT in the BL appeared to be yes.

Hard to say without longer footage but yes, indeed it seems that the second thief at Umber in EB is a ghost thief. If so I’d say it is an amateur or simply was too confident since they outnumbered you.

Solo Q to be removed from Ranked PvP

Dungeons and fractals doesn’t require 5 players, the number of players recommended is 5, however the game doesn’t lock you out of them if you don’t have a full party. Not to mention that at least half of the dungeons and fractals can be soloed.

Anet already removed the solo queue in favor of the team queue a long time ago, merging both together as we have now to reduce the queue times.

I’d think that by now people would realize that forcing things isn’t exactly the best way to go. We don’t need to punish the solo queuers to benefit the pre-mades, what’s need to be done is more incentive for more people to group up and form a team. The current reward isn’t enough as people have been voicing since season 1.

Force ranked as team play only and I believe that most solo queuers will flock to unranked or, perhaps, even quit PvP which would go back to zero with long queue time.

Desert borderland isn’t too bad and I don’t think they should scrap it. However, I do think they need to keep working on it, making more user friendly, remove all the rest of the gimmicks like the temples, stealth, cannons etc, do something about north towers to make them more strategic.

But, you are voting on keeping it as it is with no alterations!!!!!! The Dev’s have not said anything about altering DBL as you describe. Maybe there should be a poll and not let DBL return until it’s alterations are approved within a public test server.

Not really, they already said will keep improving the border, as you can see on this week patch. What I described it is my personal opinion of what I think would be better from a roamer point of view. If that’s what the majority would want, I have no idea. However, indeed the devs should use the various threads with suggestions and make a pool about what are the most desired alterations players would want in both maps, not only desert borderland.

On the other hand, for the previous pool, I voted for 2ABL and 1 DLBL. That’s the best compromise it can be done between the two borderlands.

101% agreed. I hate it when people wax all poetic about something and it turns out they play on it once a month.

I am willing to make that sacrifice if it means other people are around to share the misery experience.

I mean for what it’s worth, people said they would come back to Alpine, and they did come back to Alpine.

This is the main problem with that argument. Stability changes, reward tracks, linking etc.. all occurred about the same time. How can one say ABL brought people back when other changes were also in play at the same time? For sure SOME came back primarily due to ABL, but we just don’t know how many. I also use the same argument with DBL killing WVW. There were so many HOT changes all at the same time it is hard to say DBL killed WVW versus pve for elites GHs tactivators etc…

What is apparent is that those that absolutely hate the DBLS have no where near the people that agree with them as they thought they did…..

What really killed wvw for me was golem week. After that I hardly saw any motivation to play the mode again besides the gvg guild. After the release of HoT, all the guild changes, taking away what I have unlocked by myself or with a friend so we, as small skirmish or solo/duo roamers, could use to claim objectives in wvw; the overpowered elite specs, the automatic upgrades; gimmicks of DBBL; the continue of pirateship meta and still, the servers imbalances, finally made me quit wvw after 3 years. Perhaps I wouldn’t have quit if wasn’t so dissatisfied after golem week.

I’ve returned on the Alpine patch, however, the map wasn’t exactly the reason why I did. Was a combination of changes and fixes made by Anet that made me curious enough to venture wvw once again.

Two of my accounts are on blow out match ups and getting stomped and even so I think every 2 months is a good decision.

What? Why? I simply cannot understand the reason behind this unless it is only to reduce the scribing cost at the expensive of the buff which seems redundant anyway.

Hardened Gates isn’t the problem, players have been asking for years for a way to help put a stop into the ktrains and PvD’s. It was a step into the right direction to add such feature, even if in form of a guild buff.

Please revise the Hardened Gates change and take a look into the Shield Generator which is the problematic one currently.

The results doesn’t show which of the two simultaneous options is which.

I think they both count as yes. They are gathering two metrics and sub-dividing one. It will come down to rotating versus simultaneous maps.

They are divided on the chart now:

Yes 1 = 2 Alpine + 1 Desert
Yes 2 = 2 Desert + 1 Alpine

Both with different colors. Yet it is stated on the pool that YES will count as one, so Yes 1 + Yes 2 needs to equal 75% or more

What I don’t understand is why so many people (up to now) have chosen rotating. Should you like DBL or not, rotating means that every 3 months, you have a map you like less. And for people who enjoy both, isn’t it better to be able to chose the map when you want, instead of waiting a quarter ?

I dunno, have a nagging feeling many voted for No without reading and thinking that means the Desert borderland won’t return. However, I truly hope am wrong though.

There is no equal to Alpine Bl and there never will be.

Anet isn’t asking which border do you like. They already stated there will be a rotation every 3 months between Alpine and Desert. The Devs are giving us the option of having mixed borders instead of long periods of only one border, that’s all.

Remember if you vote No, Desert borderland will replace Alpine border in 2 months for a quarter.

Reaper's Shroud

I’d say it is something with a transformation and a high burst.

I haven’t seen in PvP yet but in PvE you can replicate the loss of the death or reaper shroud with some bosses like the Jellyfish in fractal. If it pulls you to be eaten, it will end the shroud yet you won’t be imprisoned like normally happens.

The team only get the forfeit stats which means no pip loss if there is a disconnection for a period of 2 minutes or longer.

In your case, the player afk’ed, but was doing some movement, enough to make sure there wasn’t a disconnect so the team loses the pip because for the system there was 5 players from your team in the map, not 4 or less.

But there’s one piece missing in our vision of PvP—one feature on that road map that was to serve as a place for beginning PvP players as well as up-and-coming PvP talent to compete, see progress, set goals, and be rewarded. We have regular competitive events for our top PvP teams; now we’re adding a system that allows everyone to compete and be rewarded. I’m excited to announce our PvP League feature for Guild Wars 2.

Problem is people trying to make out of the League something that isn’t. Saying casuals shouldn’t play? That’s people generating toxicity when Anet stated themselves the league was made for every kind of player. If one have a high competitive drive, they should try to aim and focus on the weekly tournaments and the Pro League more than the League.

Then Anet has to figure out a way to keep newbie or starter players with other newbie or starter players and more experienced players with more experienced players.

The toxicity starts the moment you get a guy on your team that has no clue what to do. And I expect that in amber or emerald even. But what’s something like that doing in Ruby?

Ruby is 2 tiers away from “legendary” – I’m thinking that at least in theory we should not be seeing “new” or “inexperienced” players there.

Also the toxicity has increased not because of “high competitive drive” – we all know that any decent player with a high competitive drive won’t bother with THIS game’s PvP – because it isn’t really worth it.
The reason people have PvPd a lot recently is the backpiece. People have a high-reward drive – and all that “toxicity” that comes with people wanting their reward and being upset with others that get in their way has now spilled into PvP on top of the already existing “normal” PvP toxicity.

What exactly is so surprising and hard to understand that there is a safety on the lower divisions to ensure that everyone can obtain the reward, in this case the backpiece? Upholding that knowledge, it is obvious every kind of player can reach ruby.

Anet made an invitation to every player to join the leagues, be they a beginner or a seasoned, and some players are thinking the leagues are their own pro league bit. Once they can take that out of their mind and see the leagues for the way it is, then the toxicity will start to decrease.

If one is dissatisfied with their teammates while solo queuing in the league, they have the ability to form a team and fix that. However they don’t and have this unreasonable expectations that the matchmaker will be able to find the 4 perfect players any time that person decides to play the league. Much better form a team than keeping solo queuing, blaming the others, being toxic and frustrated, no?

So you are simply ignoring or disqualifying every pro league team we have NA and EU as well as the players and teams who competes on the tournaments by saying this game doesn’t have any competitive player?

It is time for people stop using excuses for this and that for bad behaviors and start to examine themselves and the real reasons why they are doing it. Do those players leash on their family and friends in daily basis like they do in game or they just do it in game because they know they will have, if any, a minimal punishment for it?

BL’s: No. My guild came back to GW2 because alpine returned, and has stated they will leave when desert comes back. If we keep alpine, I keep my friends.

So you would rather your friends quit, because the Desert Border will be rotated, for a quarter than simply ignore one map and play on the other 3?

I’d urge the dev who creates the pool to give as much information as possible about the topic to avoid mistakes.

For those who don’t know what mixed border means, it came from the idea from the thread How Long Will Alpines Last:

“The current plan is to rotate the borderlands maps each quarterly update. That said, now that we are actively polling the community, perhaps we can start exploring other options.
For instance, nothing is really stopping us from having a combination of ABL and DBL maps running simultaneously. 2 of one and 1 of the other. If we polled that, and players approved it, then there’d be no need for the rotation, and players on both sides of the issue could play on their preferred map. The downside of course, would be any perception of imbalance that may arise from one map being considered the stronger “Home” map, but we could always give the more defensible map to Red/Blue and leave the less defensible map to Green.”

To clarify from what I have read from some posts, the devs aren’t asking which borderland you want. They will rotate between Alpine and Desert every 4 months. Players have been asking for a middle ground so don’t need to wait all that time to play on the border they like.

Remember when you vote to the pool of mixed borderlands you are voting for:
Yes – 1 Desert Border, 2 Alpines + EBG
No – Alpine for 3 months -> Desert for 3 months and repeat

NA T1 needs more balance

Untrue. Smaller groups are just as much to blame as the zergs. Last night on YB BL, we had 2 smaller groups and 1 blob on the map and we managed to take almost the whole map over because the 2 smaller groups would go taking towers and camps while the blob would attack keeps to draw the enemies. Most of our PPT was from that map in particular lol.

Wouldn’t matter if was a map blob or several smaller guilds. YB border was pretty much dead anyway as you can see on the below screenshot which the time was 20:40 PST.

YB don’t have the pop for tier 1 nor do JQ for the matter. TC is a t1.5 server, while BG is the only true tier 1.

Right now we have a bunch of tier 2 or semi tier 2 servers being throw against BG which is being stacked even harder and can be demoralizing for the long run.

Rite of the Great Dwarf: Fixed a bug that caused this skill to reduce damage additively rather than multiplicatively while under the effects of a trait.

The rite is not bugged. It just stacks. Protection: 33% Rite: 50%, Rev Hp below 75%: 10%, Frost aura: 10%, Scrapper rune: 7%, Rev over 360 range: 10%, Vengeful hammers: 20%, Bulwark gyro: 50%. There are many other things which will allow a temporary damage reduction of 100% or over.

That high percentage of damage reduction should be multiplicative and not additive. Anet stated most of the calculations are through multiplication and some fewer odd ones are additive like guardian signet per example.

What’s the point of block/invul/blind and etc if you can try to cheese up and get 100% damage mitigation?

I can understand the sentiment. If people don’t want to play with duelers, people tagging up to do dailies or guild missions, people who don’t want to join on the “official” tag, people without meta builds or certain equipment, uplevels, or whatever, giving them a place to play sGvG isn’t a bad idea. It appears to be what they are asking for…

Ask for the roamers, to stop attacking them because only want to do daily and missions? Yeah, that’s called PvE, they are in the wrong place if can’t handle the player versus player aspect.

As has been pointed out and apparently some people conveniently ignores is that duelers are usually roamers. You know, those players who engage the other roamers trying to flip your camps, the ones who flips your own camps back, kills sentry, yaks, give important intel about zerg movements and tracks, refresh siege, kill the enemy zerg tail.

I’d like very well to see a server function without any roamer, want to see the zerg go rolling through all and wasting time and their ppt bringing 50 people to flip camps and go on searching the other zerg and etc.

It is a PvP map, so is it too much to ask from people to understand and keep that in mind when they enter the WvW realm?

Reflect, CC and condition cleanse.

I play with power scrapper: Hoelbrak rune, Elixir U instead of Bulwark Gyro (even tho the later is better than the Elixir), Elixir B, Perfectly Weighted, Mass Momentum and Applied Force traits and can counter the condishatter just fine.

The key is to have a reflect up to avoid those small light conditions and only cleanse when have high stacks of confusion and torment; of course, avoid the moa and keep an eye for any possible shatter. Once the mes uses Distortion and you can chain the CC they are pretty much done.

Same thing with my DH. I use Wall of Reflection with Master of Consecrations trait, Smite Condition, one or two traps depending on the rest of team comp.

One thing tho I like to point out is that I have plenty of frustrating experience with dire perplexity mes in WvW, which gave me a real good idea of how to play and (try) to counter one. The condishatter PvP version is pretty weak compared to the WvW one.
