Streamlining traps

Ambush and Shadow traps seem pretty worthless so they need to be looked at. Ambush is particularly bad, it should be changed to a trap that does something completely different like remove/steal boons. Shadow trap would be better if it applied reveal and destroying it early didn’t have that horrible cast time, and if the “mark” applied to the target was much more visible.

Condi Ranger is kind of crud in WvW, it’s very, very easy for enemies to run from you. It’s only good for surviveability (until a zerg runs thru) and fighting bad players when slightly outnumbered.

IMO power builds that utilize staff/gs or staff/sword-x are superior.

Instead of deployable mortars/cannons how about making cannons and mortars decent again? Before they were kind of OK defensively when you put a condi geared character on them because attacks used to scale with the player’s condi stats.

Since that was changed the only thing useful about them is using the mortar/cannons to blow up enemy siege, they are worthless otherwise.

Boon duration is ridiculous when put on the right class. It’s the cornerstone on those broken boon spamming Mesmers, some is good on Scrappers and certain Ele builds. You can get 100% protection uptime on Druids and 100% resistance uptime on Warrior if you want to push things that far.

Condi duration depends on the class. Some condi builds can get by with just food, some benefit a lot from taking some Trailblazer to get 100% on certain conditions (bleed on Thief or confusion on Mesmer).

Can we please discuss Sprits?

I dont think they need the mobility back. How I would overhaul spirits:

-Reduce the cast time significantly, like 1/4s.
-Spirits are now ground targeted (900 range).
-Active now destroys the spirit and you shadow step to the location of the spirit (like necro flesh wurm, stun break too).
-For a short time you are imbued with some boosted passive effect from the destroyed spirit (i.e. after activating the Storm Spirit your next attack dazes and calls a lightning strike on your target).

Those wings suffer from the same thing the Fractal legendary BP precursor does, they are way to stiff and not “flowy” enough. The actual Fractal legendary doesn’t have this flaw though, I was hoping the PvP BP would have been fixed somehow but I guess not.

Are you using action cam or holding down the character rotate button? Ive yet to confirm this but channeled abilities tend to track, and if an enemy you’ve targeted gets behind you the animation will get cancelled/interrupted with the character rotation/action cam overriding the tracking. Ive experienced similar issues when using Ranger’s LB rapid fire point blank or Warrior rifle brutal shot at point blank.

So you keep 100% stealth uptime with d/p heartseeker combo, right? So nobody sees you coming and you start casting tripwire, steal in right before it finishes casting, and then you place needle trap and caltrops?

And they just melt?

Bad players melt. Also with any bit of lag its very easy to miss the precast tripwire on someone, so sometimes its better just to steal in and predict where they might be moving before you cast it.

I think the build is overrated because of how easy its to counter, but one thing its good and fun at is fighting bad players outnumbered.

The main balance issue with scrapper is projectile reflect uptime (it’s over the top when coupled with the blocks and evades on the hammer). Im pretty sure the bulwark gyro toolbelt is bugged to last longer (at least visually) than it should.

The only thing OP about Berserker is that cheesy insta-cast taunt trait. There is a reason that shout utility that fulfills a similar function has a really long CD.

I also don’t think adrenal health is a big issue, but being able to completely ignore poison (the counter to sustain) with resistance uptime might be something that needs looking at. IMO zerker stance was more balanced before the resistance change.

You people make it sound like every person and their mother are running condi in WvW. But when I run around I barely seem to run across any. Zergs certainly don’t focus on it. In smaller scale battles its all Dragonhunters, power d/p Daredevils, bunker support Eles (or worse, those Tempests that run in group doubling up on that OP air overload), pew pew Druids, boon humping Scrappers, etc. Even a lot of Necros are running power. If players do run condi its usually Necros and Mesmers that I see, and sometimes Rangers/Thieves and a rare occasional taunt-cheese Warrior.

I think people are just mad that they run super bunker expecting to never die and occasionally lose to a condi build that bypasses their toughness. Mesmers need a nerf I agree but that’s about it, otherwise bring condi removal and L2P.

The biggest zerg ALWAYS wins and get all the rewards. That’s not competition and you know it. And yet you barely mention it.

I would like to see this addressed somehow. There should be a distinct tradeoff between running a giant zerg and splitting up, with advantages and disadvantages to both. It would also be neat if there were more “clutch” options available, such as personal siege that can only be deployed by a player once per skirmish that would work really well against a zerg. But other than that I think the changes on paper are worth trying.

Condi damage is supposed to be a bit different than direct damage, 3 stats requirement would make it too similar to direct damage and ultimately pointless. And in PvP there are only like what, 1 or 2 meta condi builds? Just give Mesmers the Necro treatment and nerf them in line with the other non-existent condi meta specs.

Wall of Reflection acts as a “brain check”.

If you see the giant glowy wall, stop shooting at it.

I dont disagree but at the same time reflection is currently over the top in the game, making projectiles almost useless. Guardian isn’t the main problem though, it’s Scrapper and Ele. Magnetic Aura needs to reduce projectile damage instead of reflect, and Defense Field needs to have its CD increased (or at least make it so that such bubble effects don’t work against projectiles from inside the bubble).

I can kind of agree. I’d increase the duration to around 20s to bring it in line with shortbow 5 cooldown. The skill should really be used for condi builds, but its not because the immobalize is very strong with builds that have lots of cc

who are u to say ancient seeds is a condi/shortbow trait? Shortbow is a trash weapon and every Ranger knows it, so I assume you must not play ranger. In pvp, Ancient seeds is, and has primarily been a used for its immob to lock down targets, set up bursts and decap , not the bleed. Its primary strength comes from LB point blank shot, Dazes from CA, and glyphs.

I cant believe that sheer lack of even basic understanding about the ranger class. Nerf Ancient Seeds? r u people serious?

Believe me, I find it hard to wrap my head around as well, but with the recent buffs it received shortbow is actually as strong as axe/dagger dps-wise (maybe stronger). In addition, if you do #5 quickly followed by #2 at point-blank range, you can proc 5 vines on a single target. Also #4 followed by bristle-back F2 is very strong.

I stopped reading when you said SB is as strong/er as axe/Dagger. Why? Just because of that bug?

It’s common sense. You do not need Anet’s confirmation. Ancient seeds has 10 sec ICD. You hit 1 arrow of Poison volley = Procs 1 Ancient Seed.

You hit all arrows of Poison Volley all at the SAME TIME = Considered 1 attack = Procs 1 Ancient Seed.

It’s a no brainer.

Certain traits/abilities are designed to function per attack but apply affects to all targets hit before going on CD. The necro trait that applies chill on blind was changed to behave this way so that it would work properly with the blind well.

Ancient Seeds probably was designed the same way so that it would combo with CA, Lunar Impact -> Natural Convergence. Whether Anet intended to keep it that way I dont know however, Druid was given very little beta feedback time.

Body Shot needs work. Things that could make it better (a list to pick from, not suggesting applying everything):

-Increasing the stacks and duration of the vuln
-Replacing the immob with a longer (1.5-2s) slow
-Boon strip
-Lower ini cost
-Blast finisher
-Low HP effects like Heartseeker (i.e. inflicts pulmonary impact when target’s HP is less than 20%)

Raids should have exclusive rewards, yes. That said, ascended trinkets with new stats should not be one of those rewards, those should be attainable outside of raids IMO.

I still have 2 wasted salvage-o-matics (of 3) that I got like a month and a half after HoT hit but before shared inventory became a thing. Support said it was too late to get a gem refund, I think the limit is 30 days. Sucks.

Adding to the staff 2 comment, if you assign your about face key and practice…you can about face, staff 2, about face again to get across distances pretty quickly.

I have to admit, I omitted it because I found it a bit unreliable. The about face function sometimes does a 360 degree turn on my computer, effectively blinking me back instead.

If you use combat camera, you can just bind the look-behind key and use staff 2 with the look behind key held + combat cam toggled on. Way faster and easier.

Balancing Condi mesmer and Perplexity

WvW has really rough balancing so it would be pointless to touch Perplex runes any more than they already have been.

As for condi Mesmer, best way to nerf it outside of a Moa change would be to take traits like Maim of the Disillusioned and Illusionary Retribution and make them only apply to specific shatters (for example make maim apply 2 stacks of torment again, but only with Cry of Frustration, or make retribution apply to Mind Wrack only, etc).

There is a viable roaming build for every class but you can only really do it enjoyably ATM in the borderlands. EB is just full to the brim with gank groups and zergs. I would rank the top ones Mesmer->Thief->Druid/Scrapper->Warrior, the rest are kind of meh (unless you do it in a party, in which case ele/rev/dh are pretty OP).

Perhaps the Boon stripping or corrupting skills should only remove one stack of Stability per 0.75 sec, same way the control skills do.

That is without doubt a really, really terrible idea. The boon stripping/corrupting skills would be useless then, since u do have up like 8-10 different boons in your group.

Agree, that would be like saying condition removals should remove one stack of bleed instead of the whole thing. Everything needs it counters and so do boons (boon spamming is still out of control IMO).

Smokescale and Bristleback are an improvement but pets are still the worst class mechanic in the game. Worthless in WvW zergs, and in situations where you are kiting your target (If you have a melee pet out watch it endlessly try to run to your target and swipe at empty air as your target is trying to move to you, or if you have Bristleback out watch as it only moves to just barely be in range, making many of its attacks and F2’s end up out of range because of constant movement)

The real answer is they all require the same. Not any single one is any more or less complex to play than the others.

The only complex class IMO is kit Engineer, where getting the most out of it involves using and timing all the combo fields to max benefit. Some people put Ele up there but IMO that class is just about spamming rotations.

As for most skill, classes/builds that are high risk and reward would benefit the most IMO. Probably glass burst eles/mesmers/thieves.

I’ve been playing warrior under vipers amy and defense line. It’s practically unstoppable 1v1 with any class. Why are we asking how to improve this? It’s probably overtuned if anything.

The major issue imo is not the boosted sustain but the obvious counter (poison) no longer works because of Resistance (back before the Healing Signet and Zerker Stance change you could time poison application to counter Warrior sustain). The only class that can deal with Warrior Resistance atm is Necro, and thats only indirectly and not in a straight 1v1.

Whats nice is that it has some variations, like you can drop chaos for dueling and pick up offhand pistol somewhere (something like sw/p and sc/t or staff and sc/p), or drop a traitline to pick up Domination for a GS version.

It’s incredibly dumb that gunflame did more damage and was easier to connect than Eviscerate. It’s still good as a hybrid attack if you take advantage of the burn.

ACs are too powerful anyway even without this bug. Get a grip.

ACs may be an outlier but defensive siege in general has a lot of problems. The biggest glaring issue is certain fixed siege such as cannons/boiling pot/mortars are in positions where it is suicide to use them when it matters, and when it doesn’t matter all you can do is tickle zergs as they pass by. So they either need to be buffed by a ton or wxp lines need to grant something like 95% damage immunity to players when manning them for them to be practical.

You can talk to a guy at spawn in EB and access the guild vault just fine, though I only use it to access personal bank when the keep isnt upgraded because you can also do that from a dropdown menu. Is there something Im missing?

The only neat thing about SB is proccing Ancient Seeds 5 times on a target with a point blank SB #5 followed by #2 (though you can do the same with axe and the daze glyph or offhand axe). Im sure that will get fixed though, cause every MMO needs a jobber and Anet has chosen Ranger for that.

Am i the only one who tinks warrior is balanced and almost viable now?
You can literally be almost 26 seconds nonstop immune against conditions with berzerk stances and double heal signet, our heal got a massive buff, thick skin got a buff…if you have an ele by your side you can pretty much survive like any other class

also our current condition build has high damage and cc, nice sustain and kinda counters meta mesmer..i like the current state of warrior, no real powercreep, not as much passives as other classes but somehow viable and fun

Anet gives an inch and people want a mile, at least Warrior player do. And Mesmer players are in constant denial about the current OP aspects of the class.

  • How do you feel overall about reward tracks?
    They should have been added a long time ago.
  • What are your thoughts on the rate at which you gain participation?
    I think it’s fine, but the system doesn’t communicate how participation degrades very well (how long does it stay at my current level before it starts going down?)
  • How do you feel about the rate you earn reward track points?
    Feels too slow, but at the same time this leaves room for gameplay features like bonus points for defending and risk reward things that let you potentially gain or lose points in pvp combat. Or you know, just boost the rate a little to make it compare to sPvP dailies at least.
  • Overall, what are your impressions about the types of reward tracks we have?
    Nothing terribly exciting but that applies to PvP as well. Tomes of Knowledge feel useless, Id rather see WXP consumables and boosters instead.
  • Are there any other reward tracks you would really like to see?
    A generic WvW reward track with WXP related stuff and Badges of Honor would be good,. Reward tracks for specific lodestones/t6 mats would make the game feel less forcing of players to grind gold to buy crafting mats on TP. How about a reward track for toxic spores since toxic utilities are so expensive to craft?

The Necro changes were heavy handed (why not just nerf the chill damage 50%, it would have still been good instead of this bleed change which ruins the flavor/fun of being a chillmancer). Adrenal health buff for Warrior is beyond ridiculous and not touching Moa/Inspiration traitline for Mesmer had me scratching my head. Rangers are probably dead in the water now too so no Im not too happy with the changes, other than the pistol autoattack change for Thief and the added anti-boon stuff.

Boon spam has been a gameplay safe-haven for a long time now so its no wonder people abuse it. Nearly everything else except aoe-spam has been pumped full of counters (from direct damage to condi damage to projectiles). I wonder if the Thief changes will make a difference.

Zergs nowadays seem to be 99% Dragonhunters and Revs (they are the most braindead to play), sprinkled with Eles and Necros. Maybe some Mesmers if they are organized and run that cancer boon share comp.

Can’t comment about PVE but it just lacks utility for PVP compared to LB. LB’s saving grace is the stealth and knockback plus the channeled attack, which let you deal with classes like Mesmers/Thieves and knock classes off points. 900 SB range is much riskier for the Ranger and much easier for enemies to escape from, and you are left with just an evade that does nothing against a gap closer and a cripple/daze which isn’t really meaningful defensively (remember that effects like cripple no longer affect movement skills).

It’s still pretty bad, part of the reason isn’t p/p and its issues but because projectile blocks and reflects are too common in the game.
