Mysterious Grubby Chest

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

So far in my experience, b/c these chests are of rare quality, they have replaced the rare loot table at all JP chests and other chests scattered around the world, even though most of them aren’t part of the Ornament Collection quest. I used to get an occasional rare in these chests and now all i get is these grubby chests, which when opened contain a broken ornament which is grey junk. Even worse, they don’t even stuck up when unopened.

Couple that with many other chests in the world also contain treasure map fragments (which is useless to me since i’ve already claimed my treasure, as i’m sure many other ppl have) replacing rare loot table even further. So at the moment, ur basically getting junk all around, making it doing JP’s and hunting these chests around the world an exercise in futility, if ur hoping for a chance at a nice drop.

Does anyone know if these chests will be removed after wintersday or are they there to stay?

And please Anet, get rid of them.

Client Freeze as Tequ dies...no ground chest!

As the title says.

I haven’t done Tequatl in months coz last time i done it, i got kicked when TQ was almost dead. I was even in a party with a guildie but it didn’t return me to the same map, no rewards, zip, nada.

Today, i kinda stumbled into the event, was doing my dailies in Sparkfly Fen when i noticed the gathering for TQ. This time he was falling down, dying, when the client froze.

I returned to the game to find i got the dangle chest reward, but again no ground chest. I have no idea if i was returned to the same map or not, i have no way of telling. So anyway, 2 times in a row this happens, kinda disappointing and discouraging to do the event.

Yes, the gloves are once per account for the story reward. You have to either buy the other two or get lucky and get one out of the Greater Nightmare Chest.

Ok ty, that’s kinda disappointing. Why change it? Sometimes i don’t know whether i’m coming or going in gw2 anymore.

Actually u can get that as part of the outfit which is purchasable in the gems store. You don’t have to wait for Halloween, i bought mine some months ago, but it may not always be available. I’m not in the game right now so can’t check if it’s in the store but u may want to check it out. Just remember, u have to wear the outfit over ur armor to see the mask.

Upgrade to Belinda's Sword for players?

After the story where Belinda’s soul fuses with the sword, I was wondering if there are plans to upgrade ours too with that nice subtle effect of her soul being there?

I know it’s probably reserved just for Jory, but I was one of those people who really liked Belinda and felt distraught when i saw her at the end in Fort Salma. It would be nice to upgrade our swords too in recognition of our efforts to try and save her and would make us feel special knowing she’s always with us. At least that’s how i feel, don’t know about the others who bought the skin.

A new Maize balm thread has been here for more than an hour without being closed. I think its a new record!!!

@Tiger, unless Anet codes it in, it should behave like any other holiday item in the game, and work outside of the holiday timeframe.

lol. indeed.

Yeah, it should work out of halloween just fine.

The item is great fun. But it seems its only “fun” while its also profitable.

To be perfectly honest when I found out they dropped tot bags after transformed i was shocked.

I expected a transformed ambient to behave as any other ambient. This would be in line with other holiday items, no?
A bit of fun, but nothing more.

Once the halloween instance is gone for the year, this grieving is gonna pop up more and more. we’ve only seen the beginning of the disasters this will cause. Sadly AN is smothering it, trying to make it look like it doesn’t exist.

This item should be a bit of fun, but nothing more. Transforming ambient creatures is a brilliant idea! But they should still be ambient, and not dropping extra loot.

ToT bags and the super rare loot in them is partly to blame, but that should be another thread tbh.

Well the way i see it, those balms cost a lot of mats to make. Eech one is 100 candy, 5 skulls, empyreal stars and something else, nougat i think, but not certain. The fun would wear off quickly if you weren’t able to get steady supply of those mats without having to keep buying them and even if people did buy them, the supply would run dry pretty quickly. The recipe isn’t cheap either, 700 nougat, so if you can’t craft an item with it that it’s useful on ongoing basis, what would be the point of it? As long as it’s available to everyone, which it is, Halloween all year round sounds fun to me hehe.

can somebody explain to me what the flack is a Maize Balm>

It’s an item you get from some Trick or Treat bags, or can craft if you have an artificer that’s learned the recipe (which can be obtained right now).

When you double click it in your inventory, it becomes a bundle. You get three uses of it, three “potions” to throw. Within the target area, up to three ambient (white, no level) creatures get turned into small candy corn elementals. When killed, they drop Trick or Treat bags.

The trick is that to get the most out of one, you need a good collection of ambient creatures close enough together that you can hit three at a time with each throw, AND close enough that you can use all three tosses of the potion before changing back to a weapon to kill them. (Like most bundles, if you shift back to your weapon while holding it, it’s lost.)

Ok, my understanding was the balm only worked on ambient creatures inside the mad prince instance or am i wrong? I actually tried using it on crabs in SouthSun Cove but it had no effect on them at all, that’s why i’m asking.

You’re sure you used it on ambient creatures? They’re the little white critters that die in a single hit. It does work outside the Halloween instance. The elementals it creates also die in one hit.

Yep definitely i often do them for dailies when its up and that was about a week ago now, but yea no effect on them at all. Maybe it don’t work in SouthSun for some reason? not even tried it elsewhere.

One final question, (been debating if i should get the recipe) do these balms only work while Halloween is on?

I’m a vet player, been there since the start and shoot! I’m enjoying this Halloween! The atmosphere is surprisingly awesome in LA, Mad King looks great as usual and is as funny as hell.

I especially appreciate the increased festive drops this year and the lower costs for minis etc. I never got the chance to get those last year and have been working diligently toward getting just Mad Prince, thinking at the rate i was going, it will take me at least 5 years lol. But now it’s possible to not only get Mad Prince but some of the other goodies as well.

So HUGE thank you from me Anet, really appreciate it. I know I’m only one little voice drowning in a sea of complaints, but I hope the message gets through.

Sure, we could have had more things added, as always and some things like gem buying could have included more options etc, but I’m leaving that for devs to fix and just enjoy the festivities laid out for us.

So happy Halloween all and don’t take things too seriously. After all it’s just a game and a festival to boot, not the end of the world. Go out and have some fun!.

Tiger Ashante.1792

There have been endless complaints that gw2 has no end game and ever since I saw the “Eternal Alchemy” and after playing many different games, I’ve been toying with an idea that could work in gw2 and create a sense of horizontal character progression after lvl 80.

This suggestion would probably involve fair bit of work for the devs, but i think it would be worth it.

It would mean having to split the trait system and create a new passive trait line that is only earned post lvl 80. This new trait line would account unlock and any lvl 80 could earn passive trait points toward a pool that can be then used by all lvl 80 chars. The points pool is account based, but it’s distribution is character based. In other words, if your account earns 200 points, each of your character will have 200 points at their disposal at lvl 80.

This i believe would encourage alting and create a character progression system beyond max lvl, without having to raise lvl cap or stats.

Now to the main idea.

Imagine a constellation of planets like what we saw in Eternal Alchemy, where each planet represents one of the 6 gods and each god offers a passive trait line pertaining to what they’re know for.

1) Dwayna, goddess of healing, air, warmth, and life.
2) Balthazar, god of war, fire, and courage.
3) Melandru, goddess of nature, earth, and growth.
4) Lyssa, twin goddesses of beauty, water and illusion
5) Grenth, god of darkness, death, and ice.
6) Kormir, goddess of order, spirit, and truth.

The passive trait line does not necessarily have to even include all gods, only those that are most relevant and offer the best possible passives.

This is where the trait split would have to occur. I think the trait system is a bit of a mess imo. Too many things are built into them and they can be confusing to sort out and pick the right trait line especially for new players. And i don’t think too many people are fond of the system as is.

Why not split the trait lines in a way, where the existing trait lines only affect your skills and weapons your class is able to use and those other abilities/stats are placed into the passives, such as:

Better health and healing
Better stamina
Agility for speed
Reduced fall damage
Resistances to various harmful effects etc. are just some of the examples.

As the attached image below shows, the trait system could be designed in a similar way, where the center is your character which unlocks when you defeat Zaithan and achieve lvl 80, unlocking the Dragonslayer Rank.

The points can then be earned in various ways as you play the game. Kill dragons 20 times to gain 1 point, kill 100 dragon minions to earn 1 point etc.

The constellation of the trait system would work in clockwise direction and you have to put at least 1 point into each (starting in order from the first one) in order to unlock each trait line. Once unlocked, you can then make the hard choices and choose which trait line you wish to progress and customize your character however u wish. These trait lines would not give u more power, bigger hits etc, but rather make your character more tougher.

This would also free up some utility slots from skills such as increased speed skills and simplify the traits system as well as give ur character a sense progression post max lvl. As to how many points should be in total pool, make it a lot like 1000 or more, but ultimately it would be up to the devs to decide.

Anyway that’s the gist of the idea, i’ve probably forgotten some things but feel free to add your thoughts and constructive ideas.

I’m desperately hoping they add Elona soon though. I have a soft spot for that place. GW1 was my first MMO and I started in Elona, so would love to see what Anet comes up with. Hopefully not too much destruction lol.

I got so many toys/tonics etc laying in my bank and would get more if we had a wardrobe for them. But the main reason i would like to have one is for the ease of access to those toys for all my chars.

Having it account bound is great but it’s very inconvenient having to remember to put the toys in the bank and switching chars all the time to grab them. Even worse if you forget to store it, remembering which char has it. I don’t have as many chars as some ppl do i’m sure, but 9 is more than enough to make it a nuisance.

Please support this if u think it’s a good idea, thanks.

a)The minis are in a box at the gem shop, didn’t realise u can preview them while in a box.
b) not worthy of an answer.

And, Chainsaw the Skeleton doesn’t exist to preview until you create him in the Mystic Forge, nor are these pets available on TP as they’re account bound, at least mine are.

I was wondering, as the title says, if you could at least double those 2 mini’s sizes. The normal skeleton is fine, but had i known the others would have been so small, i wouldn’t have wasted 1k gems on them tbh.

Whats your story on why you started GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

Until GW1, i was always into single player games. I was heavily playing Elder Scroll games, namely Oblivion at the time, where on the forums, I met a friend who was into creating mods for the game. We created a few of our own that were quite successful and still going strong.

Throughout this time, he kept talking about an online game called GW1 that he was addicted to and was telling me he was playing Oblivion just to have a break from it. He tried to convince me to give it a try. I wasn’t interested in Online games at the time, heard lots of bad things about them, so i resisted. Until finally, i relented when a trial came up and gave it a go.

It was interesting, but extremely confusing. Still when my trial expired, i decided to purchase Nightfall, it was where i did my trial so had at least a bit of familiarity.

I was such a noob, was completely lost, had no idea how to do anything. It was an alien world in literal sense, not just in gameplay but also all the social things, like how to chat with people, trade, forming parties etc.

My friend played with me for a little while, then just stopped and left me to fend for myself. I was totally lost after he stopped playing and in frustration i quit and went back to single player games. If only he told me about gw wiki, lol.

6 months later, i decided to give it another go and really stick with it this time and i managed to finish the Nightfall campaign. It felt so good to have done that and at that point, I finally felt i had the grasp of how MMO’s worked. Still had a lot to learn, but i was getting the hang of it. It was only then really i started enjoying the game and never looked back. Got all the campaigns and EotN after that and Played gw1 do death, where i got my 50/50, GWAMM and achieved everything else that i was interested in.

Meanwhile, I heard of gw2 being developed and it was a no brainer i would be getting it. Been playing since head start and although i’ve loved and still love the game, I desperately want some new maps to explore. Here’s hoping that will come soon as well.

Ghost Karka of the lava pit - intentional?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I noticed something odd in Southsun Cove tonight. While approaching the mouth of the cavern that is the lower level of the Karka Hive, I saw what APPEARED to be a Veteran Karka, made entirely of fire, standing upright in the lava pit. As I drew closer it sort of collapsed upon itself and vanished.

I tried to recreate the occurance and by running far enough away and coming back, I was able to. It took me two tries but I managed to get the enclosed screenshot, which is a little far away…but as I said, it vanishes when you get closer.

Has anyone else ever seen this before? I spend a pretty good deal of my time in Southsun and I certainly haven’t. I can’t help but notice that directly next to the lava pit is the petrified, permanent corpse of a vet/champ karka. One that perhaps fell into the lava and died shortly after crawling out…and with Halloween drawing near, the veil between the living and the dead is sufficiently thinned to make itself known to us? :P

I’ve been seeing that ever since the event ended. Whenever i go into that area and look in that direction i see that image in ur screenshot. I always assumed it was done like that deliberately to remind us of that event as part of the Living Story.

Good things, hmm, where do i begin:

Awesome combat, smooth and actually gives u proper mobility as u fight and damage avoidance abilities. Unlike some games that tried to imitate this function, but fail miserably, making the whole combat clunky awkward and pointless, as strafing or moving does not grant you damage avoidance, so it’s just an illusion of mobile combat.

Love all the races and their racial peculiarities, ie animations, comments during combat etc.

The weapon switching and skill changes it affords.

Loooooove the u/water combat and being able to swim/dive etc and the underwater scenery is just astounding.

The artwork in general throughout the game, the wildlife and the way it behaves and interesting enemies, dynamic events and world bosses.

No njnjaring (is that even a word lol?) in the game, ie kill steal, nodes steal, boss steal etc. and love the fact that anyone can gather stuff without having to take up a profession for each type of gathering.

Crafting is great, like the new improvements but would still like recipes and materials to be colour coded according to their rarity, ie; blue recipes are coloured blue, green are green, rare are rare etc and same for mats it would make life soooo much easier when looking for that specific insignia to craft or w/ever.

Like the new wardrobe systems for everything (although i can see room for improvements there still), TP improvements are great and i’m sure there’s much more, but that’s all i can remember atm.

Since 9/9 Patch game keeps crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

Ok i have a top rig built a few months ago and until 9/9 patch i could run events like jormag on highest settings as long as i turned off name plates. Sure there was a bit of lagging now and then but basically i was completing these events fine.

Since the patch, my game regularly crashes to desktop just b4 the boss dies. It never happens at the start or the middle of events, its always right when its almost done and so i miss out on my rewards.

I’ve not bothered saying anything as i’ve seen people making posts about various crashes and figured the issue will be fixed, but instead, it seems to have gotten worse. It was especially disheartening getting dc’d at Tequatl the other day as i rarely get a chance of getting a good map for the event and have basically given up trying. But my guildie got a good spot for the event and invited me, but even being in party with him didn’t guarantee me re-entry to the same map after the crash.

And so there’s a pattern that’s developed with these crashes, Karka queen, Tequatl, Jormag, all happening just b4 the bosses die.

Here’s the weird thing. when these crashes happen, it goes to my desktop and brings up that optional crash report for Anet, but b4 i can do anything, it returns me to the game and sometimes i’m even able to continue playing for a short while, then it completely looks me up and freezes my PC.

I hope some of this info is helpful to the devs and it would really be nice to see some kind of a fix for this soon. Thanks.

I enjoy doing dailies, gives me something to do while waiting for new content, but there’s not enough for PVE at least. I do most of my dailies in half hour sometimes a bit longer, but really way too fast.

I propose u add at least twice as many choices like we used to have and ppl can chose if they want to do them or not. I for one would welcome more variety.

Edit: Why not add some crafting dailies? u get to make some things for various crafting masters and they gift u with some recipes or crafting mats? Make use of our crafting masteries? As long as they’re not exotics lol.

I know we get some in monthlies and even dailies sometimes, but i’m talking about (simple) quests not just craft so many items and that’s it. You could even have it so we craft items for our order. Like craft 4 pair of leather boots (master lvl) for Order of whispers, or same thing for Vigil etc and they give u t5 mats or recipes or a combo of both? I’d love something like this.

Well with auto login the way it worked b4, i never had to click on log in, i would just kick off the launcher and the game loaded from there, but i’ll try that and see if it works. However, the problem is that for some reason, it doesn’t show the correct number of dots in the p/w field to represent my actual saved p/w and i’ll probably still have to type it in anyway.

I thought that’s the way it worked, myself. IIRC, if you put in at least three of the same weight of armor, the item to come out should be that armor weight as well. So, ideally, the weapons should work in a similar fashion.

It used work for me that way in the past, where if i placed same types of weapons i’d always get the same back, but in recent times something has changed. It must be a bug coz it’s happened to me too many times lately where i get something else.

I’ve had some weird experiences with MF for a while now. I don’t use it very often but in the last few weeks i’ve thrown in same types of rare weapons i got as drops in hope of getting some skins i don’t have and on a remote chance i may get a precursor lol.

What i’ve found is very often, i’d put in 4 rare daggers for eg all lvl 80 and i would get a bow, or an axe or a trident instead of another dagger. This happens quite often too with various weapons. I thought that if u put same type of weapon in there, you would get same type back. So i don’t know if this is a bug or what, but it’s kinda annoying to get that.

You can gain mastery on various weapons, not just by using a particular weapon, but w/ever your enemy uses as well. For eg: if you interrupt/block or w/ever hammer wielding enemy, you will get credit toward you hammer mastery and so on.

The two things I really miss from Guild Wars 1 that didn’t make an appearance in this game, I hardly ever see mentioned at all.

The Zhaitian Managerie
The ability to view the game through the eyes of a teammate while you’re dead.

Those are two things I’d have loved to see here.

I think u mean Zaishan Menagerie lol. but yea, i miss those things myself, but when it comes to ranger pets, i really miss my Rainbow Phoenix. It’s so sad now when i got to gw1. I see my little baby Rainbow Phoenix roaming my Hall of Monuments all alone and i really want it in gw2, I worked so hard to get it and feels like it was all for nothing.

How do I find enchanted treasure key?

I got 1 complete enchanted treasure map. I double click it to show me the location of the key, it points me to a circled area in Lions Arch, near the entry portal to Southsun Cove. I’ve been there several times now, looked everywhere and can’t find a thing.

Wiki tells me the key is on a rock that has a tropical bird on it, near the planked walkway. I visited that rock even b4 i read the wiki and various times since then but I can never find anything there.

What am I missing? Could anyone who may have found it give me a clue plz?
Any help would be appreciated.

I’m like you op, although I love the game I feel that it has stagnated and due to the lack of any formal announcement of a major content update it is somewhat disheartening. That being said, I have found a couple of interesting things as of late, firstly the list of positions from the NCSoft for the ArenaNet, Bellevue, WA site;

•ArenaNet Programming Internship 2014
•Cinematic Animator (Contract)
•Data Analyst
•Economic Systems Designer
•Gameplay Programmer
•General Programmer
•German Linguistic QA Tester
•Head of Customer Support
•Marketing Production Manager
•Motion Graphics Artist
•Physics Programmer
•Public Relations Manager
•QA – Sr. Software Development Engineer in Test
•Quality Assurance Tester (Compatibility Lab)
•Senior Animator
•Spanish Linguistic QA
•Tools Programmer
•UI/UX Designer
•Web Programmer

Three of which are temporary, 1 year with the most interesting being the PR Manager role. This seems to coincide with a temporary major project such as an expansion. That being said I also saw some less than favorable reviews from former employees about NCSoft specifically pointing out the disconnect with the West which could be a sign that this unpopular policy is not Anet driven. It would be great to know because at least then we could rail against the right people lol!

Of course all of this is speculation but at this point it’s all we have left.

That list looks both promising and pessimistic at the same time. Promising that they’re still hiring people and pessimistic if they’re only hiring now for a possible expansion, we have a long wait ahead of us. But ultimately, I wouldn’t mind waiting if I knew, that say, a real expansion is in the works.

But tbh, i’ve seen those type of lists b4 and they don’t really tell us much of anything for certain.

Why don't enemies make sound anymore?

They want to make the game less scary and appealing. With the next fature patch Norn will be non alcoholics, Charr soft pacifists, all to revealing armor replaced with burkas, enemies will use toy guns and the vocabulary in the game will be restricted to 300 words.
Currently this game is like a failing surgery, each new idea they try to keep this game alive only bring more pain and permanent damage to the victim.

And so say Pessimist!

Seriously though, i don’t think it’ll go that bad, you’re way too pessimistic haha.

Yea it’s odd. My copper feed salvage kit used to talk to me when i salvage items, now i hear it attempting to talk, like i hear a sound then it gets cut out before it utters anything.

Also i found if an NPC is talking and i turn my character, the sound just cuts out completely. Even the sculptor at Dwyna event, you can’t sometimes hear his scream “DWYNA”! that he lets out.

If there is’nt a proper expansion by mid next year I’d say I will be done with the game. The LS is a massive fail for me in this regard. I’m ravenous for some substantial new content. New classes, skills, weapons, races, areas, etc on an expansion level, not this drip-fed nonsense with a back piece reward on the side.

Yea, i kinda feel the same. Although i don’t mind the living story, for most part, it just isn’t enough for some 1 like me who’s been around since the start. You get it done all to quick and then back to the same ol same ol.

Dry top is nice, but way too small and it soon becames too cramped and repetitive, despite its beauty. The events themselves there have little story to them and hence just good farming events. What I would give for an expansion like Elona! Omg, it would be such a joy to hear something like that announced.
