OP you don’t need to build tanky (read: equipping gear with passive defense) to be able to tank. If you are a warrior or guardian you have plenty of ways to mitigate damage with blocks, blinds, etc.

I disagree with this statement. If you do arah with an unoptimised group, eventually, you’ll run out of dodges/blind/blocks before the encounter is over. The number of people who can dodge absolutely everything and solo paths is very small especially for Arah.

A glass canon character in a group of glass canon will easily survive because of how quickly stuff die before all his survival tools expire. A glass canon in a group of cleric players will struggle to survive because he will run out of dodges long before the end of the encounter…. unless he can solo the entire path.

However soloers are a really tiny minority of the playerbase and not everything can be soloed.

[Suggestion] Stat change ability on Ascended

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

VodCom.6924

I would think that would be implemented with legendary armor

I second this statement.

@OP : What you can do is craft several sets of ascended armour (duh! expensive as hell I know) and keep rotating them between you character as you switch between build since ascended stuff is account bound.

Alternatively, has several exotic armour sets with your rune of choice on each character and celestial trinkets that are compatible with everything.

The meta has evolved to full glass canon since the dungeons are now mastered by a lot of people. Remember that the dungeons were designed so that anyone with any type of gear could complete them. And since glass canons builds are the ones that clear the content the fastest… well you see what happened.

To add insult to injury, condition glass canon builds can’t even match berserker builds because :

  • condition damage is backloaded (=> kill stuff slower)
  • you can achieve higher dps with direct damage than with condition damage in an optimised group (which is the most desperating thing that happened to GW2)

What I encourage you is to think hard and propose and idea that would make condition damage competitive in PvE without breaking the PvP balance .

Also, welcome back in the game

Ascended gear grind is OTT ridiculous

@Phys

The %difference increases if you don’t have power in your traits because the stat boost obtained by going from exo to ascended is the same whereas the base level of power is lower.

And since, %increase = stat increase/base stats …. well, you know where this is going.

Same thing happens when speed clearers players tell you that stacking 25 might gives a higher %damage increase when wielding cleric than when wielding zerk. (Note : I said %damage increase not raw damage increase).

Every NORMAL player wants and needs best stats. The dmg increase and % dmg recived due to faster killing rate is more then NOTICABLE.For greatsword increase of weapon DPS is 52.5 + all the power and crit dmg is closer to around 20 or more dmg then 5% hehe.only builds that dont have noticable gain from Ascended gear are condi builds, but they never were good anyway…

I see forum “you dont need ascended gear” trolls are as active as ever.Which is no surprize because they dont realy play the game…

Every normal player. Best line ever.

There are no normal players, at least not as you mean average. But I’d wager more than 50% of the population doesn’t care about best stats. I have no idea why you’d think they do. Hell, probably 50% of the population has never been to a Guild Wars 2 site, doesn’t know what the meta is and they just log on and kill stuff.

I’m a hard core player and I don’t particularly care about the best stats. People who min/max have always been a minority, not a majority.

You man win the internet today. It’s been quite some time since the last CDI that I have seen this amount of wisdom in a single forum post.

I’m in a casual guild and 75% of the players i play with do not give a da*n about the meta. They instinctively understand that ascended is better than exotic (and thus would like to have it), but most if not all of them are rebuked by the price tag.

That’s also the reason why people craft 18 slots bag instead of 20 slots bags. They don’t like paying an extra 8 gold for just 2 more slots.

It reads to me like there are several things you can do, but you have to choose which you want to do, in the order you want to do them. I don’t have a problem with this.

For example, if you put points into lore and get some new area you explore, then you haven’t put points into hang gliding and you can’t get to those areas.

That’s my understanding of it. In the end, you’ll complete all the masteries. All you do in the meantime is picking what type of content you want to experience first.

Quick reminder for Anet : please put a warning before anyone buys a WvW piece of gear so newbs don’t get screwed.

To OP : Gear that can be neither salvaged nor forged is bought from WvW.

Now you have 2 solutions :

  • spend gold to buy upgrade extractor on the gemstore
  • spend gold to buy a new set of strengh runes.

It is also a quick and easy way to take out a credit card and buy gem for extractor.

I know not everyone can pay cash, but it is quite affordable to buy gem with cash rather than spending the hard earning golds.

Anyway, its one more option really.

Sure, but that’s so obvious I didn’t even bother to mention it. Not like anet discouraging people to buy gems with real money

  • The already existing zones (“core GW2”) will have their own masteries. To get HoT masteries, you’ll have to grind HoT.
  • You will only get masteries retroactively for the already existing zones, not HoT. Everyone will grind HoT, no exceptions.

Do you have a source on this one ? The way you talk about it, you make it sound like a glorified trait aquisition system like the one we already have.

I don’t think masteries will be implemented this way. I’d rather think it will look like the WvW ranks points but in PvE. You earn points by doing PvE tasks (like jumping puzles or map completion) that reward MP and you spend these points in whatever category you prefer, just like in WvW.

Ofc this is pure speculation from me so I’ll say wait and see.

From the blog:

Touché.

However if I understand the part you quoted it means you can do a few tasks in HoT beginning zones to unlock exploration masteries tracks allowing you to quickly move on.

I don’t think you’ll need 100% exploration of the 1st zone to unlock the 2nd one and do the same to unlock the 3rd one etc.

And if you are in a party you can have a hangliding mesmer ferrying ppl with combat masteries to escort him.

Can you link me to the part that says obtaining masteries will be grindy?

Also, if there’s no long term goal for players, what’s gonna keep people playing?

You don’t get it!

What if I have to play the new content and earn mastery points by doing basicly ANYTHING that gives me XP? Doing anything is super Grindy! Give me mastery points in log-in rewards!

Jump on the Grind-Worry-Train! (what?)

You can earn mastery levels by doing basically anything that gives XP… on those 10 square meters which are not locked behind new mastery levels!

You can earn mastery levels by doing basically anything that gives me XP… once you’ve grinded that adventure for a month, succeeded and unlocked the mastery which gates the rest of content!

But I just remembered you, Bubi. You’re the one who taught mesmers the mesmer basics in that LS thread, told Miku to L2P, and then linked his own video.

Seriously, we need to be able to assign tags/groups/notes to forum users so that we know what kind of reasoning we’re dealing with once we meet on the forum again. It will save time in so many arguments.

I don’t believe there could be an MMO without grind and there haven’t been so far.

No offense but you should leave MMORPGs and play single player games instead because there haven’t been a single MMORPG that wasn’t grindy and there probably never be.

Fun fact: there was! It was called Guild Wars 2.

I could level to 80 and experience all content in the game, including Arah and all the Fractals from lvl 1 to 9, which featured all the existing fractal maps.

Will I be able to in HoT? No.

Why? Probably because “casuals” didn’t stay long enough to pay enough money to let the game stay as is. I’m afraid some people cannot cope with getting instant freedom and setting the goals themselves – they need to be restricted, constrained and gated, and only then they will stay and fight for freedom they could’ve enjoyed straight away. That’s a weird psychological phenomenon, but it’s here.

Man take a deep breath and let’s think about it calmly shall we ?

  • When you release an expansion for an MMO, you don’t want players to clear the content in 3 days.
  • To prevent this, you must introduce some kind of gating.
  • It can be level gating, gear gating or both or something completely different
  • In any case, there is a gating

Anet chose not to follow in the footsteps of more traditionnal MMOs and instead of raising level cap, introduced masteries.
Think of this as a level increase/gating but account bound instead of character bound. That’s a progress isn’kitten

Also a few détails that you might have missed :

  • Only characters that own HoT can progress in masteries
  • Mastery point CAN be earned in already existing zones. So you will NOT be forced to grind in the first zones of the heart of maguuma.
  • MP will be added retroactively to veteran players who have already completed certain tasks that will give MP.

In the end, you’ll probably be among those who will be seen hangliding on day 1. So stop yelling please.

TP: Sell in small amounts or sell Bulk?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Short answer : It’s not that simple.

Long answer : Sell goods so you do not get undercut.

On markets where goods move at high speed (ectos/raw materials/T5 and T6 fine mats …) you want to sell at best offer minus 1 copper and in large bulk. They will be bought quickly and by selling in bulk you avoid the “1 copper difference” in fees.

On markets where items get exchanged painfully slowly (dyes/low level armours etc…) you want to sell in small bulks (large bulks will encourage people to undercut you) with a nice price cut (so potential buyers buy your goods quicker), because being undercut in these types of market can be very punishing (you’ll probably need to lower your prices meaning you pay the listing fee twice).

Note : an item listed at 3.99 silver sells much faster than the same item listed at 4.00 silver. Basic marketing rule.

CJ: All collections are account-based, so there’s one collection per precursor per account

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/9340/page/1

I know it’s early and we don’t have all the info, but when the interviewer compared the new mastery system to a “gear check” and that idea wasn’t shot down in the response, that gets me a little worried.

It is technically a gear check because if you don’t have glide but the content requires it, what do you think will happen?

But that is no different from any expansion having content that locks out people without expansion. Which is technically also a gear and skill check since you wont.

The point being the nature of a paid expac demands players who don’t want to buy it, to be behind those who buy it.

A gear check is character bound (since each character must have the right armour/infusion to access the content). These masteries are account bound.

At least it’s a progress.

New Allies: Mursaat

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

VodCom.6924

In the end mursaats can be potential allies, though untrustable allies. Yes the mursaats were the villain in Prophecies but the kind of “Dark Vador” villain.

Dark Vador never started as an evil dude. He had visions and prophetised the death of his wife. He tried desperately to save her and by doing so turned evil. See, the problem with prophecies is that you know the ending of the story but you don’t know HOW you’ll get to the ending (the attemps of Anakin to save Padme caused her to die).

Following the same logic, the mursaats tricked the white mantle to commit atrocities because they were trying to save their skins. While their actions are evil, they are understandable. Had glint not written the flameseeker prophecies, the mursaats would have stayed in the jungle and everything would have been butterflies and rainbows. Also kryta would be a charr dominion, but that’s a detail of course

Do you think HoT will update Orr?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

They could create an intance for players who have already completed their storylines to see the Orr finally cleansed.
They will keep the same map for us all and for those who havent finish their stories yet… Orr could be a new main town or something where everything is beautiful, god-like for Arah and stuff like that..

I am strongly against an idea like this : It will cleave the player base and force you to complete the entire personnal story if you want to access the cool stuff. Are you suggesting that I have to witness Trahearne’s blandness 6 times instead of 2 ?

If they wanted to update orr, I think they’d use a system like in the silverwastes. Basically, introduce a new currency that is gained by helping the pact do something (like escorting the troops through malchor’s leap and holding the checkpoints). As you complete events a bar fills up. When it is filled up, the temples can be captured. After the temple events, the map goes in a “quiet state” where statues are disabled and chests are accessible. After some times, everything starts over.

The currency can be exchanged for crafting mat bags and keys to open orrian chests.

In the end, updating orr will be done through living world releases instead of HoT.

Teeny Tiny Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Arenanet is not Blizzard who is the only company that has the resources to add a new class and a new race and a new area for it and new skills and new stories and another area besides that in one expansion. It sucks but when you are small you do small things.

As a matter of fact ANet was not only capable of adding new zones to the game but it used to be able to add whole new continents with every GW1 expansion. Elona and Cantha were huge while still providing access to a bunch of new skills, two new professions for every campaign (four in total), vast number of new PvP modes (Fort Aspenwood) and elite dungeons etc. etc.

So you see ANet used to be way above everything Blizzard ever did. What happened, well… I don’t think that’s something we will ever find out.

Compare what is comparable please. Maps in GW1 are horribly flat and dull and designed for a part of (most of the time) 8 players. Because fo the few constraints, Anet has been able to create entire continents in 6 months. This does not hold for GW2, a true MMO with much more constraints.

The skill balance was wonky and difficult because of overabundance of skills. Most of them being un-used btw.

Also, keep in mind that they have elected to keep the max level identical and not introduce a new tier of items. That’s two feature less compared to WoW because of this.

According to reddit

Summary here :

  • War : Meta in PvE, WvW and in good position for PvP
  • Guard : Meta in PvE, WvW and in not so good position for PvP
  • Ranger : Easy to pick up, VERY HARD TO MASTER (’cause your pet is dumb). Not so great for PvP. Niche use in speed clearing. Great for roaming in WvW.
  • Engineer : Hard to pick up but appreciated in every game mode. Jack of all trades. Also grenades are insane.
  • Thief : What you can expect from a rogue-like class -> PvP and small fight oriented dude. Spike damage. Don’t pick this guy if you plan to roam the mists with 100+ ppl.
  • Ele : shines in group play. Hard to master class because of fragility. The ele is a force multiplier in a group.
  • Necro : Basically the opposite of ele -> Easy as f*** to learn and master. Very autonomous class and not accepted in speed clearing because of this. Meta in WvW. Terrible in PvP because of low mobility.
  • Mesmer : A toolbox class that can brings many things to a group. Has uses in PvE speed clear and WvW. PvP can be difficult. The ultimate jumping puzzle master.

Keep in mind however that 75% of the dungeons groups I see (bar arah and CoE) are casual groups that do not give a kitten about the meta builds. In these groups the necromancer is popular because he is very tough and autonomous.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

VodCom.6924

GW1 where to start :

  1. I suggest buying the entire trilogy + Eotn
  2. When creating a character, start with the nightfall campaign. Nightfall is the best campaign story Wise and the leveling pace is adequate : not super slow like in prophecies and not as brutal as in factions. And you’ll get your heroes.
  3. Use the wiki and pick up as many heroes as you can. I recommand getting the 3 necromancer heroes first, then go for the mesmers.
  4. The AI plays mesmer better than you (#interruptforthewin)
  5. Gameplay wise, GW2 is a Trinity based, party based RPG. Positionning is important. Mobility is reduced (no cast on the move and no jumping).
  6. I played GW2 in single player 80% of the time. Once you have your core of 4 heroes, the games becomes a single player RPG with a function “invite a friend”.
  7. As others mentionned, use online ressources to find optimal builds. Don’t bother experimenting, it has been done for you.

Specializations to Make Support Integral?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

My hope is that Specializations are going to make Support builds way more attractive in PvE/PvP/WvW. Not necessary, but so much more attractive to players as to make them an integral part to a team. Highly organized PvP seems to be the only place that Support is a must. I would like to see the same thing for CC, but it jsut seems like an afterthought for ArenaNet at this point.

What would be the point of doing specializations, if running them in PvE amounts to just more zerking? I love that people have the option to run a support class in PvE if they like, but it should be more pronounced and more relevant by being better at what it does in PvE.

I feel really bad for professions who are inevitably going to have their sole release specialization and have it be support oriented. Not because playing support is lame, it’s not, but because it just isn’t important enough in the grand scheme of things in this game. It needs to mean something going forward with specializations, otherwise we can just keep running the classes we have now with the DPS oriented builds we’ve been using for years.

Whenever a dev team adds a skill or an item in a game two reactions can trigger :

  • it’s better than the actual meta => New meta and ongoing power creep
  • it’s not better that what we already have in the meta => No change and people will complain on how Anet fails to add anything new and relevant to the game.

Note : You only have 3 ways to speed clear something in ANY PvE game :

  • You kill the stuff before it kills you => Max DPS meta (e.g GW2 berserker meta)
  • You set up a classic Trinity to maximise the DPS with minimum risk and randomness (WoW raid meta)
  • You perma crowd control your ennemy so it cannot retaliate while you DPS (e.g falcon builds in ME3 Multiplayer). This one is a very rare sight ’cause it feels dumb.

If you want to make Healing power useful in PvE, you have no choice but to force players to have a classic trinity meta.

Note : support sorta exists in the actual GW2 meta in the form of aegis ; protection and condi removal. In GW2, it happens that you can fully support while wearing a zerker armour. One way to change this is to tie support skills effectiveness to statistics and gear, effectively resurrecting the classic trinity.

Precursor prices after HoT announcement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

The prices were realistic.

What kittening planet do you live on?

How about you answer my question?

The absurd prices of the Legend, spark and dawn/dusk are the consequence of the popularity of their legendary.

It’s true that some people actively played on this popularity and used the precursors as a reserve of value, one that would be immuned (or so they thought) to inflation.

The market for precursors cannot be reduced to “forgers” selling to “legendary crafters”. The market for precursors includes the speculators and very wealthy players who want to store their money in the form of items whose value will steadily increase with the size of the economy. When you sell a precursor on the TP, you don’t decide the future usage of the precursor (craft/recycle/use/flip…), you only decide a price. Period.

Thus the price roughly represented the global attractiveness of the precursors, wether you like it or not.

Once HoT will be released, new parameters will determine a new price for every precursor, namely the time gate and the inital mastery investment to get said item.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Some people clearly need a recall :

  • An MMO is considered “grindy” if one has to repeat a small set of simple and uninteresting tasks in order to reach the level cap and enjoy the “end-game content”
  • Having objects or rewards that require grind in a game does not make it “grindy”
  • In GW2 the end-game content can be summed up as : dry top + silverwastes ; megaboss ; living world ; dungeons and fractals. Of all these only fractals of level 10+ require ascended equipment. Thus one with exotic gear can access 100% of endgame content since you walk through the same fractals at level or 50 (only the difficulty changes).
  • And GW2 gives you tools to bypass the leveling process for your alts (exp tomes + skill scrolls + gold to buy traits).

With that in mind, one cannot possibly claim that GW2 is a grindy MMO. The ones who do either :

  • Want everything handeled to them immediately without breaking a sweat.
  • bash the game for the sake of bashing Anet/the game.

Edit : I’d also like to remind you all that ascended tier items were added because a vocal minority (not pointing fingers here) asked for something to grind for once they’ve finished the game.

Some people want zerker gone because they are jealous. Mostly.

Some (other) people think that the overdominance of berserker (and direct damage type) over condition damage is a problem that needs to be adressed. Nike proposed a fix not a long ago. Can’t find the original post though.

However there is an overexposition of berserker and metagame in this MMO. Truth is, 2/3 of the players I’ve played with do not bother with the meta and do their daily AC P3 in knight, valkyrie or celestial equipment.

It’s fine as long as you do not care about breaking the world record.

New player maining Elementalist! need few q/a

Hi Jay,

about your questions :
– D/D is a PvP and a roaming spec in WvW. You can use it in open PvE of course, but it is not considered a meta spec in instanced content. Since it is a PvP spec there is no “optimal” rotation. What you should try to do is to make sure you use your blasts skills in your fire fields to stack might.

- The elementalists have been/is/will probably be in a good state in PvE and WvW where they hold a pivotal role, thanks to the multiple combo fields they bring. We have a balance patch coming our way that will nerf some hybrid PvP ele builds. We’ll see how well the ele will do in PvP after this patch.

- YouTube videos ? Visit metabattle.com, there are some video guides here that are well made. Guides in this forum are also very useful, though very “dungeon oriented”.

- Gearing up : Complicated topic:

Rule #1 : don’t blow up you money on gear as long as you are not level 80. It’s not worth it.

Rule #2 : don’t blow up your money on leveling crafting ASAP, crafting is a way to acquire good gear but it’s not the only one.

Rule #3 : Once you are level 80, check your wallet. If you have tons of honor badges/karma/dungeon tokens etc… it might be a good idea to check out what you can purchase with them. Keep in mind that karma and WvW Equipment can neither be recycled nor sold, so be careful with your purchases! Trading post is also a good solution if you have enough gold.

Rule #4 : About ascended equipment : Try to get an amulet and some rings with the laurels quickly. They’re not that expensive and provide substancial benefits. Ascended weapons are useful but very expensive. Ascended armour is a luxury that you don’t really need. Try to get a complete set of exotic armour and accessories, they are largely enough to do 90% of the game’s content.

PvE "Fix" for Confusion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Imho, confusion should last much longer and deals lesser damage.
I used to kill champions in curse shore dealing 6K with confusion. A 33% dmg increase would lead that 6K to 8K. A damage like that is ridiculously huge for a single condition. No other cond can reach those numbers.

I’d better prefer a long-lasting confusion (worthful in pve/pvp/wvw) that deals approx 1.000 max dmg per ticket (25 stacks), in line with every other condies

This post doesnt make sense… Mobs use an ability about every 6 secs, so if you’re doing 6k dmg ever time a mob uses an ability you’re already doing the equivalent of “1,000 dmg per ticket”.

Not exactly true in the silverwastes or other high level zones. Mobs here attack more often than every 6 seconds.

With time, mobs will use skills and attacks more and more often because Anet Learning how to make them more threatening.

In the end you cannot balance something around two very different situations like these.

Doing Living World 2 as a group?

in Living World

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Yes you can cover the LW S2 at the same time in a group. The procedure is the same for the personal story.

Quick recall on what to do :
1) Group together
2) Make sure all members of the group have the same story active and the same steps reached. If this is the case, all members of the group should see the same green instructions on the top right corner of their screen
3) Enter the instance.
4) If you do NOT see any warning message stating that progression will not count, you are good.
5) Profit.

Also, I think this can be moved to the player helping player subforum.

Why does ANet continue to push PVP
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-guild-wars-2-player-vs-player-tournaments/
When most of us PVE or WvW?

Just imagine how all of that PVP/ESport money could have spent on the content that matters to ANet’s actual base populace?

While something is not popular NOW, it does not mean it has to stay this way forever.

And, in order to change things, you have to advertise such change.

Nobody is pointing a gun at you to force you to play PvP. If you don’t want to PvP, just keep playing PvE.

I’m only 75% sure for elona.

Soryy to pull the emergency break but…

…the description provided by the imgur links matches with the one of a mobile APP not the one of an MMO expansion.

While the new logo means something is definitely up (or a giant hoax/troll) the description is sort of odd.

The description is an way to generalize were the brand will be used and you can read from games to the wiki, i believe as all brands they try to cover everything possible they can use the logo with

Fair enough, I’m not familiar with trademark registering.

Still, I don’t want to get my hopes up till press release. Otherwise if this turns out NOT to be an expansion, I’ll get mad.

I loved the possibility to rename my weapon in Dragon Age Inquisition.

However I definitively think this sort of feature belongs to the realm of single player RPG. In an MMO, this is just a waste of development time and data storage along with an opened door for trolling.

TL;DR : No thanks.

To spare some gold, buy the recipe for the complete box rather than the separate parts.

Try to stick with exotic. Ascended armour offers a marginal bonus that is not worth the investment.

Also keep in mind that you are as fragile as a guy wearing a berserker armour, while doing less damage. The redeeming part is it’s enhanced support capabilities in non optimised groups (keep the comments about berserker whatever at home please).

Need Help! New to Class!

in Necromancer

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Hi Mythx,

welcome to the necromancer. You can find some articles and guides on the necromancer class on the GW2 reddit. Also make sure you check spoj’s guide on dulfy.net. Last but not least, check metabattle the GW2 ressource for builds.

The necromancer is a well rounded class : as a spellcaster, you have a weak armour but as a necromancer you have lots of HPs.

The necromancer is the master of conditions and a relatively tough boy. To compensate, they have limited mobility and cleaving abilities. It is also a very selfish class : they are very autonomous but bring little to a party compared to guardians and elementalists.

Necromancer are good mob farmers and are welcomed in all but the most optimised parties in dungeons.
Necromancer are a part of the WvW meta and are efficients in both zerg and roaming.
Necromancers perform poorly in competitive PvP events. They are enjoyable in casual PvP though.

Remember that there are two types of “elite” player in GW2 :

  • The ones who can solo the path anyway and thus do not see a problem to create the “anything goes” group.
  • The ones that can’t solo paths and need zerkers with them to be able to do the path in the first place. These dudes are much much more numerous than soloers.

The former players are nice to play with, the later are a pain in the kitten .

I think some people get confused with these two types of players and tend to argue over different things/people.

So to paraphrase this:

Its more fun playing with people who can do the dungeon for me, than with people who expect me to do my share of the effort.

mhmm, and this is why there is argument. People think they should be carried by others. In which case, you should be paying those “solo” players (oh wait, there is QQ about that too).

Don’t make me say what I’ve never thought. I’ve never been carried nor have I paid to be carried.

I’m just saying that some self proclaimed elite players are pain to play with because unless everyone in their group is playing meta they fail miserably. Thus these people resent heavily to carry newbs (simply because they can’t) and newbs then complain about their toxicity. That’s where all this argument comes from.

Don’t make false assumptions or statements about me please.

Dervish the Next Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

If someday Anet adds sub/ advanced classes to GW2, I hope each subclass has its own, unique profession mechanic.

The cool thing about professions like dervish and paragon, and if we look at other games, the cool thing behind many of the classes/ champions/ heroes in mmorpgs/ mobas, is their unique game mechanics.

FFXIV, for example, added a Ninja job with an unique Ninjutsu mechanic, where skill input order determines the effect. This is completely unlike any other skill in that game.

GW2’s professions fill most of the archetypes, but their core F1-F4 gameplay mechanics are just a small sample of the endless possibilities that could be designed. For that reason, it would be interesting to see Anet to think of a lot of new core mechanics, especially when some existing ones are as boring as signet-shouts (I’m looking at you, virtues).

The topic is interesting :

Classes in GW1 had really deep class mechanics (ashes, attacks combos, feeders, adrenaline, overcast etc…)

Keep in mind that these mechanics suffered from two major problems :

  • They were not uniform in their implementation meaning that sub-profession was a mess to balance
  • They almost all boiled down to energy management whereas in GW2, mechanics have very different goals.

However, I do like the idea of customising each class unique mechanic.

About FFXIV : assassins in factions worked exactly the same way as ninjas in FFXIV. Nothing new under the sun.

Dervish the Next Class?

VodCom.6924

Hoping to visit Elona and then recruited Dervish and Paragon back to us!!! <33
Same for Cantha, let’s recruit Ritualist!!!!!

Nah! Dervish can be considered. Paragons however are already a dead horse.

The entire idea of a paragon is class whose strenght lies in the numbers of its allies. A lonely paragon is an ineffective liability. A paragon in a zerg is a god of war. Think about the balancing nightmare.

Since a large chunck of GW2 PvE is based around single player, a paragon would have no place.

TL;DR : cross fingers for dervish, don’t even think about paragons.

Even in GW1 this class was terrible as a concept.

I can see why people have an issue with the min-maxing ‘meta’ crowd. They’re generally unpleasant to run with. Thing is, no one has to play with them if they don’t want to. Outside of Arah and Fractals the more casual groups typically outnumber those with strict requirements.

Whats funny is, the people who are actually in elite pve guilds almost always run in “anything goes” pugs and aren’t very particular, in many cases they want the other players to be raw since its more fun for them to carry those kinds of groups. The “zerk only 5k AP” people aren’t actually even close to real min-maxers.

Remember that there are two types of “elite” player in GW2 :

I had no trouble playing caithe for this episode.

As long as Anet does it rarely it’s fine in my books. It is better for the immersion to play an other character with his own skills to add flavour and refreshment to the gameplay experience.

I strongly despise the idea of playing caithe with your own skills: this is no immersion nor flashback, this is costume brawl. And costume brawl belongs to PvP.

Dear Santa: Wintersday Gift Box List

in Living World

Posted by: VodCom.6924

VodCom.6924

Dear Santa (or am I supposed to address this to Tixx),

We’ve been very good this year and we hope that you think so too. We hope that you will update your Wintersday gift boxes. It isn’t that the various toy skins, snowflakes, Empyreal Fragments, altruism recipes, and bells aren’t great, it is just that they aren’t worth anything. There are too many of them.

Doubtless you have your own surprises, items and inventions which nobody has seen before. It’s exciting if you do. But I’m limited to requesting things that exist for my Wintersday wish list.

I think that since the supply of several limited-release items has disappeared, that they would be a great Wintersday surprise. Not even prestigious items, several regular items have disappeared to the point where they are unaffordable.

For Example: (current TP price in parentheses)

Recipe: Superior sigil of Torment (150g)
Recipe: Keeper’s Pauldrons (650g), all Keeper’s weapons
Recipe: Toxic Sharpening Stone (37g)
Recipe: Bowl of Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup (19g)
Azurite Orb (9g)
Favor of the Festival (28g)
Sentinel’s Orichalum Imbued Inscription (8G)
Desert Rose (82g)
Recipe: Carrot Souffle (8g)
Southsun Mask (67g)

None of these are prestige items, they just haven’t dropped in a while. But Consider Also giving:

Superior Sigil of Generousity (77g)

(This didn’t drop from normal boxes last year and is quite pricy vertical progression in a game that not supposed to have that. I guess the players who bought this for 65 silver 2 years ago are just lucky). Finally,

Recipe: Chaos of Lyssa (212g)

This was a prestige item, but it’s drop rate was bugged 80+% of the event. That bugged rarity is why almost none of the created back pieces exist today: the recipe is too rare to use. Give us a second chance at the item, especially if It will someday be included in a “phantasm weapons” collections.

Thank you.

Does anybody else have any suggestions?

I do have a suggestion : try to rewrite the letter to make it more likely that it has been written by a 10 years old child. You’ll have more impact and make it more funny
