While the White Mantle are terrible people, I think they are just pawns right now, given the story. I don’t think joining them is a great idea….

From what I heard, other chapters will bring more 1 more Mastery each. I don’t know what they are planning, but if you haven’t maxed out all of them already, I would wait.

I’m kind of glad they aren’t tied to the mastery system for the simple fact that I can stockpile mastery points for when they do expand on it. It was really frustrating wanting to do certain things in raids and realizing I would have to grind out adventure achievements just to get enough mastery points. I can’t help but think that’s part of the reason they didn’t include them in the mastery system.

Although with the amount of mastery points we got this patch it probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway. lol

Using the skill does not slow you down. Getting hit with the magic and not using the skill is what slows you down and saps your health. If you listen to the NPCs, it gives a brief explanation on what it’s doing.

Yeah, I definitely think the lack of explanation was a little… eh… Even playing in the open world I’m still not even really sure what the special action key does.

But definitely both fights involving the bloodstone tethers were a terrible experience. I think it would be a lot better in general if the tethers extended further. The fact that it slows you down and does damage to you, with countless mobs spawning endlessly and the fact that the boss knocks you back if you’re even a centimeter too close makes it more difficult than it needs to be. The final boss especially, although having 4 bloodstones to tether to, is negated by the fact that the tethers only reach so far while you the boss is in the middle of them WHILE you have to avoid being practically one shot by his whirlwind.

If I weren’t on my thief and able to vault to the location to set myself up for passing the mob through the tether, I’m not sure how I would have completed them.

Fairly certain I was using the special action button wrong anyway, but without knowing entirely what it does or how to appropriately use it makes it the encounters a little frustrating.

I always assumed the other races read up or were briefed on the Human history. I have a feeling that if the details were recapped in this event, people would just kitten about that too.

If you don’t raid, the comeback of Lazarus comes with little ceremony and is literally dumped on your head, with some backup cinematics from Benett and other suporting characters, giving you the Scarlet Wars treatment of “oh, you should know this, if you missed it, sucks to be you”.

It’s not really that different from what you get inside the raid. The cinematic is exactly the same one we got at the end of the second wing, if I’m not mistaken, and any reference to Lazarus comes exactly the same way, scrap papers and some small dialogue entries. There’s probably much more lore about what the white mantle has been doing on those three diaries than in the whole raid.

I know, I actually raid. I finished all three wings, I scoured them through and through. But if I haven’t, I’d have a very bitter aftertaste right now, since the game basically tells you “Oh, and here’s a chunk of story you were too noobish to play, so we’ll digest it for you and tell you all about it,” which is basically literally what Bennet is for.

And I play Guild Wars 1.

Problem for both the raids and GW1 lore is the same. The story literally counts on you already doing both or knowing both, and being human, or at least knowing the human personal story and lore. If you don’t, the key parts of the story are just unceremoniously tossed at you. There is no proper buildup or anything. Especially the introduction of Lazarus is handled pitifully. “Tada, here I am, I know you knew I was coming, so there’s no reason to drag it off.”

People who don’t raid really didn’t know he was coming. People who don’t know Guild Wars 1 lore don’t know why is it such a big deal.

It’s not a problem of the stuff being there, but the way it’s handled. Generally, the story feels a bit frankensteined together. The part with Taimi and Eir and the dragons and magic builds up just nice, but as soon as Alm… whoever that fake cloned charr is barges in and shoehorns the White Mantle in, it takes a sharp detour into a plot that’s just “there”.

As a Pact commander, you basically say “Oh, it’s that dastardly White Mantle again, and they’re messing up with the Bloodstone.” That makes perfect sense for a human Pact commander, since they’ve dealt with White Mantle before, but for an asura? Or a charr?

It’s literally the same problem as it was with Caithe several months ago. The story counts on us having feeling or at least knowledge on something many have never seen.

Canach told you that with the two veteran bloodstone elementals. Why do you guys think it would be any different here? If you are slow learners, nothing arenanet does will help you. It was fast-paced, but hardly difficult.

Its the same concept as previously…you have to get a connection to the bloodstone and get the boss to stand in the connection for a couple seconds to drop the shield…..

I watched the video, tried and found you must use that Asura skill when you get connected. Or the line would not be long enough.

Seriously, such mechanic should not appear in a single player story content, and you got no repair inside the instance, had to start all over if you exit.

personally the mechanic would have been a whole heck of a lot better if it was easier to figure out, maybe have the NPCs drop hints or flat out tell you to “get her in the magic line”

Did you read anything that I wrote? I don’t think you did…. At all. Anyway, You wouldn’t try to put out a gas fire with more gas, would you? No, only a kitten would. Trahearne is a war general. There are always alternatives in war. After his efforts with Zhaitan, he knows what alternatives to aim for. Stop trying to defend Caithe. She deserves some punishment for her incompetence and negligence .

How is Caithe in any way responsible for that first bullet there? It wasn’t her fault, its not like she could have prevented it

Hello: She knew before almost everyone that Slyvari were originally property of Mordremoth and she let Treahearne and countless other Slyvari go straight into the battle, in his territory, without giving him any warning. It might not have stopped Mordremoth from bringing down the ships, but it could have definitely stopped him from immediately claiming weaker Slyvari, fanning the flames, reduced the causalities, and stopped the racist hatred from being planted towards them. She practically handed the Pact and her Slyvari brothers/sisters to him by not giving Treahearne this critical intel. No general worth their salt would have allowed this risk if they knew of it.

I don’t think that makes it her fault in any way. For one, what would trahearne have done? “Oh I’m sorry guys, I can’t come with you”? That wouldn’t have worked out very well at all. Mordremoth would have attacked the fleet regardless of whether sylvari were on it or not

If someone is trans, okay. But it really isn’t necessary to inject it into the game. All toons in the game (and gw1) can get a gender change for a few bucks. There is nothing special about it and no reason to call attention to it. None of the NPCs or players can tell the difference. Anyone who thinks that they need a flamboyant, in your face, trans character in a major story, in a fake world, has a lot of personal issues to work on that no video game can fix. It will just kitten people off and make them less likely to accept you in the waking world.

As long as the effort is more or less equal to the first release, I don’t mind at all for skins and items being available to players later on. It’s mostly cosmetic and can easily be replicated stat-wise in this game. There is nothing to gain from it never being re-released.

You are paying for a legitimate advantage, unlike, the bag slots which are toon exclusive.

I stick a coin operated salvage kit in one, never have to buy another salvage kit ever again.
I stick unbreakable harvesting tools in them, never have to buy another one of each.
I stick exp boosts in them, I can use the bank space for more important items and I don’t have to portal that toon to town to withdraw them.
I stick map loot keys in them, I don’t have to log in with a specific toon to use them.

This is just scratching the surface….

The only question I have about Sylvari is “When will the story stop focusing on the stupid cabbage elves?”

Also – there’s more to lore than “Knowing/Learning about them”. There’s also “Watching them kick kitten and take names and run over dragons while killing gods with HEAVY METAL TANKS!”

Why did you buy HoT anyway? It’s supposed to be about Sylvaris and seems like you don’t like them. So why anyway?
The most important lore is getting to know if there are other Sylvari and what happened to these infected by Mordrem after Modremoth’s death.

I already have the masques and the Bull’s Mantle. You also have to consider the fact that the mantles are no longer obtainable outside of the TP. Newer users are at a distinct disadvantage with these items, as they are with the Scythe skin. Also, there is less to really match it with. Unfortunately, on the human necros, the Demon and Skull just looks like cheap Halloween paint on the human base. (Each Race has slight differences with the masques) The problem with the Wraith Masque is that doesn’t agree with all color themes. It’s just too limited, otherwise it’s a nice piece of work.

I am looking for more oldskool skins. I have already tried those options listed. “Passend für mich nicht.”

Also:

And there are individual pieces to consider:

Then there’s the outfits that are necrotic themed:

You guys have so much previous work to expand upon and work with. Bring back the light leather, metal, and bones. Please? We need armor that makes a statement and says, “Yes, I the dead are my playthings and I dabble in the dark arts”.

Something should certainly be added to “eat up” the XP and provide something else in exchange. Masteries are great but really short-term.

I was expecting raid masteries take like 5 to 10 times more experience to level (like 10 to 40 million XP) because they specifically mentioned that raid bosses should drop XP books or something like that, but they ended up requiring just ~500k XP and 1 mastery point – that was a disappointment for me. I guess they decided to change something or maybe next raid masteries coming out with next wings will be much tougher to get – will see how that turns out.

And I know I rushed through content and because of that I got all XP I need in first four days of HoT but it was totally worth it I should say – I got to see stuff other people might still not be able to, I’ve got full map completion a few times already, I am working towards all new legendaries and I was fully ready for raids when they came out.

But now it is already slightly over a month of XP going nowhere. I still do a lot of events to get map participation and a bit of map currency (on new maps) but that is mostly required to get a full bonus from map meta event to get keys/currency to get mats for legendary. At this point I could have probably leveled all HoT masteries like three times from zero with all XP gained, but its just going to waste and that is kinda sad.

Some ideas on what can be done:

- Repeatable mastery tracks – they won’t require mastery points (or just 1 at the first time) and will give you spirit shards or some map currency or simply some mats as output each time you complete it. It would be the best to have multiple tracks available so you can choose something you need to progress towards – like the ascended account-bound mats from new maps for example.

- Simply return spirit shards for each level up like it was working before so you can get them again after you finish up with masteries or probably even can switch back to leveling up at any time.

- Give increased event bonuses instead of XP – like double karma/gold OR simply some bonus mats OR spirit shards. It is still much better than nothing, right? Otherwise it feels like all you are doing for event is a waste of time because you don’t even need the reward.

It may be a bad idea, but what about reducing recharge times on racial skills? It’s still something.

4. After rescuing Logan and Zojja, oh look it’s Trahearne dangling there. Let’s get him.
5. Pursues Trahearne through a very lightly guarded location despite Mordy knowing we are there.
6. Finds Trahearne and finds out he is part of Mordremoth. Oh, look the weakness is conveniently his mind let’s attack it. Trahearne is able to resist Mordy’s control and allowed us inside his head.
7. Yay, the dragon is dead. No further story updates. Rytlock doesn’t even explain his experiences in the mists.

You’ll still get rewards for doing it, so stop complaining.

Adding to this thread about Living Story issues. I had already completed the 4 story missions that you rearranged and was just waiting to do the ships before finally finishing the story. From what I understand my character (Warden Nightray) should have been pushed forward to Victory or Death but now I’m being directed to re-do these four again: Against the Corruption, Cathedral of Silence, Romke’s Final Voyage & Source of Orr. I’m effectively stuck because I shouldn’t have to redo missions I’ve already completed.

Why would it require removing those?

If you want A and I hand you a token that allows you to select A, then your ability to obtain A is 1/1.

If you want A and I hand you a token that allows you to pick a letter out of a hat while blindfolded, your ability to obtain A is 1/26.

A 1/26 chance forces you to engage in more attempts (on average) to obtain A.

As unethical and sick as this is, it is exactly what I’d expect of this company.
