But that should be the trade off of going full Condi. If you’re afraid of Diamond Skin, you would spec for a little bit more power. However, right now, doing so is completely pointless as it just puts you in a worse spot, not a better one.

It’s rock, paper, scissors, which isn’t my idea of a fair or balanced tradeoff.

Focusing on cc conditions just seems to miss the point to me. The issue is immunity to a whole damage type – damage, not just cc. As a condi build, in 1v1 and 1v2 situations I need to be able not just to apply cc, but to pressure them with damaging conditions. A proposed “fix” to condition damage immunity does nothing to help me in those situations.

Wtf makes people here think that just changing the trait to immunity to condition damage will solve the problem? Wow! So instead of pressuring or defeating a condi immune build we can instead chill or cripple them to potentially, and only very slightly, delay our demise. Oh boy! The problem isn’t just immunity to our cc, but also our damage.

Diamond skin isn’t a hard counter to your class, just like stealth trap isn’t a hard counter to thief. That is because the class doesn’t have to rely on one mechanic, even if it’s built with it in mind. It does however counter a specific build. Only one class can use diamond skin (when fully invested in an otherwise mediocre line), and you have an easy way to deal with it when you see it: knock the ele’s health down a bit with physical attacks, then resume condi spam. This makes it a fair counter. Anyone can do what happened to me in that post, and it takes the thief out of the fight for 30 seconds with no way to counter it except wait, that lack of counter is why it’s a problem. Try again.

I’m not saying it’s a nice thing to happen. I clearly don’t like it when it happens to me, who would? What I am saying is that you have an easy way to deal with this, and if you refuse to use it then that’s your problem really. Try opening with something other than signet of spite or fear.

OMG!! Why didn’t we think of that?!?! The linked video and our personal experiences indicating otherwise have all been mistaken!

I mean, really? Staff necros with Dhuumfire are bad and cheesy, but there are condi builds that don’t even dip into the Spite tree at all, and all the hate against “condition spam” is misguided. Can we say the same thing about all the cheesy direct damage spam?

I guess necro is allowed to spam all condi buttons on the keyboard but when little (10% hp) problem shows up all these buttons are used to make qq threads ^^

Happen to actually watch the video?

Happen. And it looks stupid trying to attack someone with condis when he is immune to condis above certain hp. Try some physical attacks?

Ppl making problem out of it. Take other weapon isntead staff and use your brain. Lower hp below those 90% and then keep spamming your 11112511 condis, its your job that he stays below those 90%.

Way to miss the point – twice. Necro condi builds can’t do kitten against condition immunity builds – that’s the point. It renders not just whole builds, but an entire damage type unviable.

Really kittenty “balancing” ANet. Even more annoying than the elementalists new toy is the engineer’s condition immunity at 25% health (which for some reason is a trait lots of engineers are using today) – no condition build can counter or kill them solo. Even if ANet balances the game around sPvP, these condition immunity traits make no sense because even there 1v1 and 1v2 fights are common – fights which condition builds can’t defeat if condition immunity is involved.

Where are my immunity to all physical damage while above 90%, or below 25% health traits? If you think such an idea is ludicrous, then why is condition immunity any less outrageous?

Stop this nonsense, seriously.

People express they dislike spirits

in Ranger

This spirit provides a really good new type of heal. Looking at hps misses the greater picture of how many seconds. Healing spring backloads regen and starts with only a modest heal. This skill frontloads regen and then allows you to get a bigger heal on demand later.

PLUS, if you trait Nature’s Vengance you can get an “extra” heal. I tend to need that extra heal under the same circumstances that would cause the spirit to die anyway.
At worst, I know I get an extra heal and when it is coming.

To each their own and such, but my issue with spirits isn’t that they’re useless, but that they’re mind-numbingly boring. You set it, forget it, and then most likely just spam 1 on your shortbow. Oh, the excitement! That the new spirit heal may be good or useful seems to me entirely beside the point.

Yeah me too, and then I want Twilight skin for 2000 gems. Like this, I won’t have to grind to get the skin I want. I don’t care that people payed over 1000 golds to get it, and if they complain, that’s only ‘cause they’re childish.

Because Twilight is totally comparable to t3? The cost of t3 (which is actually 119 gold, not 1000) isn’t even 1/10th of the amount of money you’ll need for most legendaries. And surely you’re not silly enough to suggest that this is an issue of grinding since: 1) gems can be converted into gold, thus bypassing grinding altogether and, 2) the armor was removed from the game entirely, meaning no amount of grinding will earn you the gear.

The argument that the Flamekissed set screws over people who had already purchased human t3 is unfounded given that ANet regularly influences the economy in ways that variously render so-called “exclusive” items more or less expensive. Some rare dyes from the Flame and Frost dye pack, for instance, were selling well into the 100’s of gold until ANet decided to re-release them, which dropped prices for some dyes by as much as 100 gold. If someone wants to make the argument that releasing a less expensive, slightly different armor skin thereby screws over people who had already purchased a similar armor for more money, then the exact same complaint ought to be leveled at ANet’s re-releasing of dye packs and other novelties. In other words, if ANet accepts the argument that people were screwed over by releasing Flamekissed armor, then they’re also logically committed to the idea that they’ve also screwed over many more people by re-releasing other items.

So why does this particular case warrant immediate removal? So what if a less expensive re-skin comes out? Prices fluctuate all the kitten time. The reasoning that says decreased prices renders those who had paid more screwed is really absurd given that IT HAPPENS ALL THE FREAKIN’ TIME. If a price discrepancy is the meaning of screwed, then we’re all screwed – which means we’re actually not screwed at all since we’re all subject to the same rules and system. It’s fair and equal because we’re all mutually screwed!

The armor was objectionable to a pretty vocal bunch of players. Since they can be rebating the cost to players at a future date, preventing further sales reduces future hassle.

In every class discussion thread, WvW thread, sPvp thread, etc., you’ll find just as many vocal (and persistent) players objecting to a host of issues (some of which still haven’t been addressed). If that’s the case, then the reason you suggest for the change – some kind of business decision – doesn’t really hold up. Why did this particular issue warrant a swift reversal?

I’m still puzzled as to how keeping the Flamekissed armor as it was would have screwed over anyone. Some people were kitten ed that it was a less expensive and flashier re-skin of human t3; but others were just as adamant that they didn’t even like the re-skin – they were just upset that a re-skin too closely resembled something they had paid roughly 60g more for. But – seriously – so what? I had saved up for months for a dye that no longer dropped only to later learn, after I had purchased it, that ANet was re-releasing the boxes from which it dropped, which consequently lowered the price of the dye by 100g. (And there are a LOT of examples like this!) Should I start demanding a 100g refund from ANet now?

I’m being serious: I sincerely don’t understand the reasoning for removing this item from the gem store…

PvEing guards and supervisors obviously isn’t the fun part of roaming, though – it’s the small scale pvp battles. I’m worried that any major stat bonus is just going to encourage those without the buff to join the zerg, though.

A lot of these suggestions seem to assume 1v1 scenarios, which has almost never been my experience in sPvP or WvW roaming. If a stun warrior comes at you with a friend – any class – you’re probably screwed unless a decent teammate is with you. In sPvP I’m starting to see groups with 2-3 warriors that’ll often travel together from point to point. Keeping your distance from 2 warriors isn’t at all easy, and almost certainly entails leaving your circle. To try and compensate, I’ve gutted my old build and spec’d almost entirely defensively, putting 15 trait points into both tools and inventions for the reset on abilities at 25% health, and packing almost nothing but stun breakers. It’s a pretty cheesy build that’s just supposed to stay alive/tank so other teammates can whittle down enemies. I don’t think it’s a particularly good solution, but at least I don’t get instantly roflstomped by chain cc.

I don’t at all see how this is a player problem, when I did nothing to create the situation that has led to me not being able to play the content.

queue times during prime time

xev.9476

A recent onslaught of WvW guild transfers to Dragonbrand have made queue times unpalatable during prime time. On reset night I, and many others, were unfortunate enough to get instantly queued for my guild’s assigned borderland, despite spamming for entry. All 4 WvW maps were queued for well over an hour. After an hour and thirty minutes of waiting in queue, however, I finally just logged out.

Former tier 1 servers may be used to hours-long queue times, but they’re a whole new experience for me on Dragonbrand – a lousy experience. Since I feel I’ve exhausted GW2’s PvE content, I play primarily to WvW with my guild and occasionally PvP. I’d suggest that any situation that literally prevents a player from engaging the content that keeps them playing the game deserves serious attention and redress.

Since there are more whispers of possible incoming guild transfers to Dragonbrand, I worry that this situation will only worsen. And since all of my friends and guildmates – people that make the game worth playing – are on Dragonbrand, simply transferring to a lower population server isn’t feasible.

I’m certain that others on more populated servers have experienced similar frustrations, and rather than just “deal with it,” I’d hope some sort of solution is in the works.

People would join, and then immediately leave once they saw 3 rangers, even asking if this group was “for real.” When we finally found 2 more players – 2 warriors – one guy continually harassed us about random ranger stuff. The only justified complaint was when we reached Maw and had it target dead pets multiple times in a row – that fight lasted forever.

Cleric Bunker Viable in WvW Zerg?

in Ranger

Posted by: xev.9476

but let me rephrase:
Will Clecrics with a bunker specc provide me with sufficent survivability in large scale fights?
Or can the regeneration not negate the incoming damage and will will I die in the middle of the battle if standing in the front line with my greatsword?
I am thinking more of a Guild vs Guild Scenario, where individual damage also doesnt matter that much but staying alive and granting support to your team is crucial. For everytime you drop, 5 enemies will get back up.

No. You’re not going to be able to stand in the middle of zerg and tank damage indefinitely. Despite what someone else said, smaller, well-organized zergs regularly take down larger ones (at least in T2) – but they do so by charging in to burst, then quickly retreating, regrouping, and repeating. In other words, a cleric bunker build is precisely the wrong build to run for tactical zerg-busting. You want a build with decent to high burst, but also with enough survivability to endure a few moments in the heart of an enemy zerg.

I’ve been using a trap build lately, but I’m about to switch back to a signet build full-time. With SoS, SotH, and SotW actives, a ranger can swoop into a zerg, provide good burst, and retreat to do it all over again. A trap build is also effective, though, since no one has enough condition removal for all the crap flying around in zergs. The trick is to throw your traps where the bulk of the zerg will be – not where they are. In most cases, this means just planting traps at your feet, since competent zergs will push through to your back lines.

Arah: Crusher boss – put spirits in corner and use the swiftness to move out of way of hammer and the frost for 70% damage. Spirits worked great in Arah and Molten Facility.

I think you’re overfly fond of defending genuinely problematic and lackluster mechanics/abilities. The usefulness of a swiftness-granting spirit against an encounter with frequent immobilizes and cripples is exaggerated (not to mention the frontal range of the hammer attack that’ll destroy anything in its path, including spirits), and this 70% damage figure you’re using is sheer fantasy – the frost spirit certainly does not grant a 70% damage increase.

My point about the 90/10 “solution” was just that it’s just a band-aid to a problem that’s existed since launch that doesn’t solve the core issue, namely, the broken pet mechanic that’s the supposed hallmark of the ranger class. I think it’s pretty sad that rangers are so eager to accept band-aids for gaping flesh wounds. Even if they implemented 90/10, pets would still die too easily, which means the ranger would still essentially “function” without a proper and useful class mechanic (not to mention the sorry state of ranger utilities). In other words, the 90/10 proposal would render our class mechanic even less useful than it is now.

I’d like to feel like a finished class, which entails more than simply upping our personal damage. I think it entails reworking utilities, a few trait lines, and a significant rework of our class mechanic. I don’t want a temporary solution – I want a coherent, finished class.

I’m just curious what the reasoning is behind asking for ranger/pet damage to be split 90/10, or whatever – what does this solve, exactly? The current pet mechanic is simply broken; tweaking numbers isn’t going to address the core issues, it’ll just make us slightly less handicapped. I suspect that just tweaking the numbers would do absolutely nothing to address the desirability of rangers for groups, either – why bring a class that’s going to have 10-15% of its damage dead most of the time when you could have a class unburdened by a sad core mechanic?

Now players who have gotten this pet and the black widow in GW1 can have an advantage as raven is one of the hardest hitting birds and some players can now have 2 of them. The spider also has 2 immobilizes so now players get 2 of them. This seems a bit unfair that some players have access and others do not to these better pets in PvP. I do have these pets btw.

Rangers wanted, pets optional

in Ranger

xev.9476

This isnt GW1. In GW1 you had two profession that fact alone is a huge departer from GW1. The trinity has changed (even thought some of you can’t get it out of your head). People compare traits, perks and mechanisms. They are not the same. In Gw2 if its on your fkey its a mechanism. Fkeys are not the only mechanism for some classes. If its tie to a weapon the it is also a mechanism like mesmer clone and thieves stealthing.

When you refuse to learn you class core mechanism you are serverally gimping your class. What is a thief without stealing, backstab and stealthing. Or a Mesmer without clones. Of course you can chose not to use these things just as some rangers refuse to manage thier pets. Yes you can chose to be an Ele and stay in water attunement but then you are cutting your damage in half.

Traits can buff your mechanisms. Perks are thing that are nice to have but not required.

When asking to have a core mechanism changed you need a better arguement than:
1) Why do I have to do xx when other classes dont have to xx.

2)I don’t want to learn how to x and its broken anyway. (What you say has no weight until you have learned it).

3)I don’t like this \it wasn’t in GW1.

Once you have an arguement that does contain one of these present a solution thats not going to require 1000 man hrs. to implement unless it affect everyone or at least 1/3 of the population (guard comes to mind as it affected WvW). A ranger specific problem affects 1/8 of the population if all classes were equally played.

When you have a solution take the time to come up with possible abuses or side effect of adding said improvent or solution.

Having the option for taking or not taking a pet in trade for damage would result in players who chose to use pets being scorned because the player base is wrongly or rightly damage centric. Which in turn would make a core mechanism obselete. Making rangers pets (40 + pets) a non-functioning appendage. Reducing Rangers to a generic light armored warrior.

You have this bizarre desire to defend what already is the case against those who want to imagine it otherwise. Perhaps you’re under the assumption that the devs popped out a nearly flawless game and it’s up to all us plebes to accept the game as it is? I don’t buy that at all, and I don’t understand your incessant policing of forum threads that seek to offer creative alternatives to what’s currently in place. What’s your issue, for instance, with offering feedback along the lines of, “I don’t like it?” I can’t even name an MMO that doesn’t value the feedback of its players. Indeed, failing to adequately respond to player desires and concerns potentially leads to an MMO’s demise. “I don’t like it,” then, is a pretty useful bit of feedback.

You seem to hold to the equally bizarre idea that, should a player dare suggest an alternative to what’s currently in place, then that player must take into account all possible repercussions of implementing that change, not to mention taking into account all potential labor issues. This is monstrously silly. For starters, not many of us are in any position to even begin to calculate what is or isn’t feasible for the dev team to produce or change (let alone what they’re willing to change). Second, even Robert Hrouda acknowledged that bad or unfeasible ideas are often great springboards for other, perhaps more productive, ideas.

Personally, I don’t want a mandatory pet as a ranger. I’m drawn to the class because I love the concept of a nature-oriented archer, not because I want a near-useless stray mutt limping after me. Your response to such remarks has been something along the lines of, “Tough. L2p. It’s a core mechanic; this isn’t GW1.” You seem unable to recognize that it’s precisely that core mechanic – pets – that’s being called into question. Reminding us all that pets are intended to be a defining characteristic of the ranger class is irrelevant when the feedback offered is precisely that many players do not like that mechanic, and wish it were optional.

Given that absolutely no MMO perfectly resembles what it was upon release, advocating for radical class changes isn’t too far-fetched. Look at WoW. There’s not a single class that resembles anything like it was in vanilla, let alone BC or WoTLK.
No, this obviously isn’t WoW, but this is an MMO, a living, constantly changing thing, and I see no reason to try and silence radical proposals for change by imposing bizarre criteria for what counts as valid feedback.
