Where do you feel most "at home"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Egon Vidar.9125

Egon Vidar.9125

Before I say anything: my main is a Sylvari engineer.
In the game world itself, I feel most at home in Orr and snowy areas except for Lornar’s Pass. Lornar’s is just a miserable place and it really gets to me, but I love every other area with snow. And with Orr.. I don’t know. I just like it there a lot. It feels very comfortable for me. Maybe because I’ve spent so much time there.

City-wise, it used to be Lion’s Arch, before it got rebuilt. It was a city made by the people, homey and wonderful. After the rebuild, it feels too impersonal. It’s not the place I loved anymore, at all. All of that was almost entirely scrubbed away.
At this point it’s either DR or the Grove, depending on my mood. Both feel like home to me. Like The Grove is my childhood home/parent’s house and DR is where I moved to when I grew up.

I don’t care for the skins, either, but I don’t want them to try to redo these. They’re not my deal but I understood that they put a lot of work into them, and grats to the artists for that. I understand there are engine limitations.

However, I also believe some decisions regarding the armours could have been different. I just hope another set is released at some point in the future, possibly with some community feedback next time, even if it’s just straw polls.

Class/profession customized keybinds. I’ve been away from the game for a year and a half, and I’ve played a good amount of Overwatch – where you can change the keybinds for each character. I don’t know if it’s been brought up before, if so, I guess I’ll be bringing it up again.

I use a 17 button MMO mouse to play GW2. Switching between, say, Engineer, Elementalist, and Guardian can be an absolute nightmare because what keybinds work for an Engie can feel totally wrong for other classes. I would love it so much if these could be changed and customized for each profession..

Best race for thief?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Around launch, I made a max height male charr thief. This was a terrible mistake, imo. I’ve seen very few characters in games who play as awkwardly as he does. He just feels janky and bizarre, even with the thinnest body type. Then there’s the joys of medium armour on charr.

I’ll probably Daredevil him at some point. In the meantime, if I play thief, I go with the min height asura I made. I recommend asura, sylvari, or human if you want a character where the animations match up well with their size.

I kept dropping yesterday when going out of WvW (Borderlands/EB, no problem with EotM). Going into WvW was fine. Restarting the client would fix it, though it hit me about five times yesterday. More annoying than anything else.

I just tried to login to preview tribal armour pieces and have found myself entirely unable to get into the game. I’ll get past login, but once it tries to load the map, I’m knocked out, every time.

Shortly before HoT released, due to my bad vision, an issue arose with the dye you’d get from the third birthday pack. I gave them a day after sending in the ticket, but when I checked my email, they’d actually gotten back to me that same night. And they handled it very quickly and kindly. It was the exact opposite of the experiences I had with support 3 years ago and I was really happy.

Constant Crashes after HoT Update

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Egon Vidar.9125

Egon Vidar.9125

I’ve been having two different varieties of the game crapping out on me.

1. Since one of the fix patches to HoT/Halloween (one of the earliest ones), I’ve been crashing. A lot. Usually at -least- once per hour, usually multiple times. Everything’s 64bit, and if my computer is capable of running the unoptimized alpha for Ark: Survival Evolved for hours and hours straight at low-medium settings and 30fps, then dear god GW2 at max and medium should be an absolute breeze, and that’s an understatement.

2. CANNOT CONNECT TO THE LOGIN SERVER. During prime time and night, this awful thing plagues me, and tries to pin the problem on me to boot, which just makes things more frustrating. This started happening last Saturday, and not a thing on my machine has been changed. As well, I can (eventually) get in, usually after 4+ tries. At this time, the Wiki also goes down and the forums run fast as molassas in January. I don’t understand this one because none of my friends are getting it, but nothing has changed about my connection or its speed.

Between these two, I’ll get bouts of getting one of the other sometimes every five minutes, and it’s killing me. I’ve wound up deliberately playing either very late at night or early in the morning to avoid the login server problem, which makes the labyrinth and HoT kinda suck since most other NA players aren’t around and I wind up having to solo things for eternity on my engie.

The etiquette of standing inside people

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Egon Vidar.9125

Egon Vidar.9125

Keep in mind that most of my time is spent playing max height male sylvari. They’re not small.
The only time people standing in me annoys me is if I’m in a clear area, uncrowded, trying to take screencaps. It’s usually obvious by me running a lot of emotes in quick succession. If I’m taking caps of an enviro, I’m usually standing in spots people would have a hard time getting to if they’re not on an engineer (as I usually am) or using a portal gun, so there’s less opportunity for people to come up and stand in me.
Also, jumping puzzles and weird choke points. I totally understand that some people just have big characters, I do, too. But I end up grinding my teeth at people with monster sized back pieces. WINGS. I intend to use that item on my upcoming sylvari revenant, but I’ll be turning the wings off in JPs and WvW and the like.

Regarding Asura and gigantic Norn and Charr – that’s just generally funny. I don’t mind either stepping up to me when I’m an asura so I’m standing in their skirt, because it just leaves me smirking, and I’ll often step under their skirts to see how long it takes them to notice. If I’m playing one of those huge characters, I also don’t mind asura hiding in the shade of my medium two charr or norn’s skirt pieces.

Slightly less funny in jumping puzzles, but there’s nothing to be done for it, I just wait until the huge ones pass. Or until they leave, if it’s a JP with disappearing platforms.

I always lower my character model limit, character model quality, and shadows for big events. The latter two mainly for the simple reason that the room my computer is in is hellishly hot at this time of year and I just don’t want to risk overheating my machine – and it IS so hot it’s at risk of that. Honestly, I need to have someone come out and look at the central air and how it’s connected to this room.

I always have post processing turned off just because I don’t like it in most areas save godslost swamp.

Also occasionally drops you out of midair, though less frequently. Real pain when you’re trying to explore, jump a gap, and plummet to your death (I’m looking at you, Drytop and various JPs).

“oh can you guys also add in an area where we can show our support for the banning of obtaining a slow loris as a pet?”

That is a bad analogy and not comparable to what LGBTQA people have had to deal with.

I love that Anet is and has been as inclusive in their world’s lore for same sex couples, transgender, physically disabled, etc but seriously. Enough. They don’t have to add literally every marginalized group into their lore just because they exist in our world and are marginalized there.

You’re contradicting yourself, and also, is that a problem?

Should they model and add in someone with Downs Syndrome? Perhaps someone struggling with Schizophrenia?.

…Again, is that a problem?

All people want is representation. I’m not saying rainbow dye is the absolute best way to do it, though it doesn’t hurt. But when almost all you see in media is one specific type of person, when there’s so much incredible diversity in the world, it becomes, well. A bit of a downer to be in one of those marginalized groups. You know what marginalization means, yes?

I honestly cannot comprehend a dislike of inclusion and representation.

You’re the only one kittenumes his / her / its own existence by his / her / its sexual orientation.

I genuinely can’t tell what you said due to the filter, and I wasn’t talking about my sexual orientation, I was talking about my gender identity. I’m a he, by the way.

I think it is a lifestyle choice. Those lifestyles offend me because of my religious beliefs.

I can assure you that I didn’t choose to be born transgender. Why would anyone choose this, with the abuse, hatred, and flagrant lack of understanding that we deal with?

Thank you, Anet. You have no idea how much this means to a lot of people.

I’m a trans man – the opposite of Sya. I am not a political statement, and neither is she. She’s representation. Which is very, very important to minorities and the LGBTQA community, because we so rarely see good representations, acknowledgements of our existence. That’s what this is about. It’s not political. It’s accepting that we exist and a representation of diversity. There are so many straight, cisgender people in media – I think you could maybe scoot over and share the spotlight a little.

Seeing characters like Sya in GW2 and Krem (who is like me) in video games makes people like us feel accepted and included. It feels wonderful, it fills us with happiness to see people in these games who are like us, representations of us. I hope this helps you to understand how much this means to so many of us. The game already had a great representation for me, the sylvari are meant to be pansexual, like I am. And it just feels amazing to feel so.. fully included and acknowledged, now that both my sexuality and being transgender are represented in this game that I love.

Thank you again, Anet, you wonderful people.

I’m blind in my left eye and my glasses don’t fix that. They also don’t bring my “good” eye up to the levels of perfect sight. I can’t read red nameplates, I can’t tell what icons are what under an enemies’ health bar, I can’t see tells most of the time because either the enemy is too small or it’s engulfed in light from particle effects, or both. And the left side of my screen is generally a blur unless I keep my head turned to the side like a bird. This game could really, seriously use some improvements for the visually impaired.

Which definitely includes a colorblind mode. I’ve been saying this since launch, but this game desperately needs this. I’m not colorblind but red aoes completely disappear for me on red ground, and it’s intensely frustrating, I feel terrible for people for whom red AOEs look like white AOEs.

I’ve not been able to pursue paintings of those magnitude and detail yet due to some physical problems cropping up in my life (lots of trouble with my hands), but here, I’ve done a very fast and loose warmup sketch just to try to pin down his proportions and how he might stand, for you. Because you’re awesome.

Is it just me or is there a piece of metal hanging on the left half of his chest in the picture Egon Vidar linked. Almost like a chain hanging over the ribcage?

Those are probably the lighting maps on him causing a metallic look, his flesh tends to have a blue sheen to it. Mostly unrelated to that, but he does appear to have to sets of “landing gear” on his underside. They look like backward, slung-under spider legs that don’t have enough joints. They look like kinda Drakkar’s limbs tucked under his body and I would imagine keep him from dragging his mangled half-body along the earth when he’s grounded. Which is interesting. Also, mandibles on his face that look similar.

As for people wondering what happened, I had another guy with me playing. Whenever he comes online I’ll ask him since he was standing right out in the middle, unless someone shows up beforehand and talks about it. But you could very clearly hear Wynne screaming and trying to get away from Faolain. The player with me also said “Faolain is…” in our call, as things erupted, and I couldn’t hear him after that over the game sounds. I’ll have to ask what he was going to say, because now I’m really curious, haha.

I messaged my friend on Skype and asked him what happened.

[6:32:06 PM] Jheuloh: I’m fuzzy on the specific details, but while Caithe was talking to the centaur shaman, Faolin was forcing a confrontation with Wynne with her centaur companions around her. When the conflict concluded with Wynne screaming like a banshee and disappearing into the distance the centaurs pretty much planted their foot down and no baloney mode was activated. Faolin brought on the actual fight.
[6:35:47 PM] Egon Vidar: Thank you.

I think the deeper question is why is Caithe attracted to Faolain? Nothing that came out of Faolain’s mouth that entire episode was redeeming in any way, shape, or form. It was all either lies, harm, wrong, violent, or speculation on a conversation that was none of her business.

This is bothering the hell out of me, too. I guess maybe when they were both even younger, Faolain might have been less horrible, but I doubt to any extreme degree. This seems to be her nature, and nothing about it is appealing. I really can’t figure that relationship out, now.

It would make more sense if it were written in a way that shows Faolain capable of actual manipulation, because that’s often how decent people wind up with total jerkbags in real life, but she isn’t written that way. She has two modes of personality: “skeevy jerk” and “ragingly murderous.” Caithe is treated more like an accessory than an actual romantic partner. And this was a long time before the PS, which treats the relationship breaking down as a somewhat recent thing. I have no flippin’ idea.

First I want to say that I AM okay playiing a villain or a person who isn’t good, or even violent. I’m fine with that. My favorite game genre is horror, and you wind up playing a lot of not-nice people or downright monsters in some of those. Also, I play a sylvari, which makes this all more annoying.

I think a lot of people are really missing out on something here: Caithe and our Character weren’t supposed to be aware that Faolin started everything. We were supposed to be inside that hut, not able to see what they were doing. However, because of our third person viewpoint (and the fact that most of us have done the PS) we all know what a weed Faolin really is. At that point in time, Caithe didn’t know and trusted Faolin when she claimed that the Centaurs turned on her.

I think you’re absolutely right.. Cause here I am scratching my head wondering what everyone is talking about… I was in the hut talking with that centaur and I am absolutely not aware Faolin did anything to provoke the centaurs. From what I experianced in game it seemed to me like the centaurs attacked Faolin for no reason. Will definitely keep an eye on her on my 2nd play through tonight

But yes your theory is definitely valid. I experienced exactly what you said regardless of the 3rd person camera. All of a sudden I hear Faolin calling for help and see all these centaurs ganging up on us. I too was like what am I doing at first but then I remembered I was Caithe and Caithe is in love with this woman. Doesnt matter that the whole situation feels wrong, at that moment all you know is the person you love is in danger and could die, naturally you’re going to do all that you can to make sure they’re safe. In turn that will hurt so much more when she will find out the betrayal and how she slaughtered so many innocent on a false premise.

Cant wait to replay the episode and see what really happened now

Having been in a 10+ year relationship that was much more decent and loving than the one Caithe is in by miles and miles, if my partner started putting up red flags like Faolain was before that fight, I would have pulled her aside afterward and asked her what in the hell she was playing at. Or before things ever erupted. She made it incredibly obvious beforehand that she was going to pull something nasty, and the audio itself standing inside the hut also made it clear that the centaurs didn’t just up and decide “screw being hospitable” and attack out of the blue. Wynne was screaming. As you might defend your loved one, you also defend your friends, and Faolain made it clear before you ever go in that she was not leaving that place without Wynne.. no matter what. Knowing Faolain so intimately, Caithe should have been more aware of that than even the player who can pick up on it.

And you might defend your loved one in a fight, but love doesn’t make you hold an idiot ball and turn a blind eye to your partner doing something magnificently horrible. Even if Caithe has some kinda stockholm-esque thing going on and is somehow utterly blind to the incredibly, insanely obvious thing that was going to take place there, the smart thing to do would be to use your awesome stealth powers to grab your partner and stealth the heck out of there before murdering a bunch of people, because holy crap, that’s something you can actually do. Maybe even stealth your way over and nab Wynne, too, if you’re still determined to do that. She won’t even see you coming! Standing and fighting is a lot more risky to your loved one than using your previously established (in this very chapter) super stealth teleportation powers. It’s like she up and forgot that she was a super-thief for the sake of convenience to what needed to happen in the story.

But more annoying than that is the stupid, stupid crap that came tumbling out of my character’s mouth when it was all over. No, I would not just take what Caithe saw (which was nothing) at face value, because Caithe even making that assumption herself was questionable but can be possibly, maybe glossed over with enough handwaving. But for my character, who knows both Caithe and Faolain? Haha, oh man, no way. It was so stunningly out of character for a sylvari who knows both characters and who could evaluate the situation themselves that it just boggled my mind and shattered what little bit of suspension of disbelief I had left.

As for people wondering what happened, I had another guy with me playing. Whenever he comes online I’ll ask him since he was standing right out in the middle, unless someone shows up beforehand and talks about it. But you could very clearly hear Wynne screaming and trying to get away from Faolain. Help Bjarni Honor the Spirit of Hare - Moved?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Egon Vidar.9125

I had no idea where to post this as it’s not a bug, it’s just.. strange and unfortunate.

I recently made a new human character, which means I got snaggled up in the NPE, so to try to avoid it I dumped a level 20 birthday scroll on him and ten tomes of knowledge. I like the norn areas a lot, so I headed over to Wayfarer Foothills to do some hearts and events for fun.

I walked north from Horncall Waypoint and after a bit, I ran into Bjarni and his heart quest to give him rabbit food and avoid the hungry rabbits. I stopped and turned in a circle just to be 100% sure I hadn’t somehow magically ended up on the cliff where this quest was supposed to be. Flat ground all around me. Bjarni had apparently relocated. I went to gather food, which was all now conveniently stacked up in one place, and took it to the norn. I didn’t notice or hear any rabbits chasing me. The next bag, I stood and waited. A hungry rabbit ran across the clearing and into a hole, ignoring me. I moved a bit closer to Bjarni, stood, and waited again. Finally, a hungry rabbit came after me. With all of these changes, I almost expected it not to kick me over, but it did. That, at least, was relieving. But there were barely any hungry rabbits at all.

Here’s a video of a couple of people doing the original quest:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd10NxVRfR4

I can’t for the life of me figure out why this event was changed. When I first discovered in in GW2 two years ago, it was the most hilarious, fun quest I had done yet, and I always make sure to do it on new characters. Were people complaining about it? Were they having trouble, and there were masses of people somewhere yelling about getting kicked off cliffs by rabbits? Does someone genuinely think this heart was too difficult for new players to do or understand?

I really want to understand but I can’t figure out any logical explanation for this change. Especially when there are so many dynamic events actually in need of work due to bugs and/or poor design, or updating due to “living world” updating the story and lore.

I have no idea if this has been reported yet, because I’ve looked and found nothing anywhere. But mesmer offhands just aren’t showing up on clones, and some mainhand glowing items don’t glow on clones consistently. It’s visible (or invisible) on all graphics settings my guild and I have tested, and works with all offhand items. We don’t have enough mainhand glowing items between us to test that one very thoroughly but it happens without a doubt on the Lovestruck scepter. Other people can definitely see the lack of offhands and lack of glow when it happens.
We tested it also with both of us using the Tormented GS skin, it remains the same in appearance so it looks like two-handers might not be affected, but needs more testing.

Sylvari male Mesmer: Rudra Pareidolia, played by myself. Using, in various caps, either Lord Taeres’s Shadow+Zenith Torch, or Shard of the Deep+Zenith Torch.
Human female Mesmer: Kade Parageist, using Lovestruck Scepter Skin and The Anomaly.

Cap 1: Taken by guildie Jhueloh to demonstrate that the bug is visible to other players. High settings.
Cap 2: Taken by Kade Parageist, my own armour was removed to make the bug more visible at a distance/in a big clone group. I think this is medium-high settings.
Cap 3: Taken by Kade Parageist, showing the glow bug more visibly on mainhand, graphics settings dropped to low to also show that it isn’t a higher settings issue.
Cap 4: Taken by me. Medium settings.

You are running around wearing heavy plated armor with a dozen extra weapons and endless amounts of loot in your bags (which consists mostly from even more armors and weapons).

I’d say you can stay in a pretty fit condition after hauling all that around Tyria.

wow XD
here comes THE FAT HEROES OF TYRIA

well, even swinging stick and staff will make you fit, heck, even the “run around” part already makes you fit if you do that everyday.

Hate to break it to y’all, here are plenty of hefty people who don’t lose weight from exercise or diet due to a myriad of genetic and hormonal issues. I invite all the eye-rolling in the world this statement can bring, because I know how some people are, but the truth’s the truth.

Now, clipping issues and things like that? Actual legitimate problem, but given the incredible size of some male norn, I don’t think it would be too bad. Something to consider, though.

I’m all for more body types. I tried to make a heavier set female norn once, who ended up average size compared to real-world humans (save for her gargantuan height), and her butt clipped though her armour. But that would have taken a small tweak and was more a “shame on the artist responsible” thing.

Midnight Fire and Abyss can look pretty goofy on some medium armours, and I’m “fortunate” enough to have four medium armour characters. On my engineer, ranger, and one of my thieves, Midnight Fire looks like shiny dark chocolate. On the other thief, it looks like milk chocolate (HotW male asura medium coat). On those first three, abyss looks like a very dark grey. On that asura thief, his coat just looks sooty, like just a medium-dark grey.

This is why I’ll never buy abyss. If I’m buying a black dye, I actually want a black dye. Shocker, I know.

I’m not even going to discuss the dye actually called “black.”

Bearbow rainger is good, all Knights or PVT gear. Dump your traits in vitality and toughness lines. You’ll hit like a feather, but you’ll never die. Engie built for survivability with a rifle is also great, and they have a lot of skills that allow you to reposition yourself if you need to. The rifle jump, acid bomb, some elixers, and rocket boots. I use them all the time, my main is engie. I have nerve damage in my left hand and am blind on that side as well, and it works great for me.

I use a razer naga 17 button MMO mouse for all of my skills, also. I bought it specifically to make playing engie easier, but it makes most classes a breeze. Still struggling a little with scepter/dagger ele, though, haha.

I know I say this often, but.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
And this is why Anet keeps butchering the writting quality over and over.

Dah poor guuuurl! She doesn’t want to give her discovery away so we can save the world! Why can’t we murder political relationships with Rata Sum to please the unsupervised child that almost got kitten murdered for being too moronic to realize running into inquest territory on her own may cause damage?!

And that’s exactly why none of you get choices.

Stealing is wrong. Stealing from a child more so. There’s no right reason for doing the wrong thing. Ever.

What if stealing from a child ensures you have quite possibly saved the lives of thousands of others, thousands of children? Therefore, if you don’t, you potentially condemn a great many of children to death. That would be the wrong thing, wouldn’kitten

Bigger picture. I don’t know about you, but I’d readily steal the candy from a little kid if it meant saving just one kid’s life. Or a device. She’ll make many more, and as far as Phlunt goes? He doesn’t seem all that sharp for an asura. I imagine it wouldn’t be that difficult to ruin him much later down the line when his support is no longer necessary.

So I was key farming...

Oh, god, I thought it was just me..

I actually went in to do Stealing Secrets but it flipped over to “Setting the Stage” instead. I.. just don’t know. The character is a thief in the Order of Whispers.

I have another thief in the Durmand Priory who is on about the same level of personal story steps.

It’s worse this year than it was last, and it isn’t my internet, and I’m on a less laggy computer.. My connection speed is better than it was last year, but the lag heavily affects Aspect Arena (yay plummeting unexpectedly to your death using air skill five) and Sanctum Sprint is almost unplayable.

Air jump, sun burst, and lightning jump are all almost unbearable with this lag.

This bug has been absolutely tormenting me since launch. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have tinnitus, which causes it to set my ears ringing for a few hours after it does it, and which in turn makes it hard to hear my friends on voice and affects how I play. I wish it only startled me, and boy does it startle me.

On top of this, it still does it if I have the game minimized, which is pretty awful since I have the game set to not play sound when it’s minimized/in the background.

gods and dragons

in Lore

Egon Vidar.9125

But they are risen. They are called

risen, even if their names are not.

Risen are called undead.
Undead are called risen.

With the exception of mentions of Joko and any rare mention of GW1 events, the term “undead” in GW2 is used interchangably with the term “risen”.

So, it’s just another bug to put undead and risen in the same instance? I don’t think so, because most of the undead are in a separate position.

Orrian = Undead = Risen

The terms are interchangeably used by the NPCs.

Annoying? Yes. Confusing? Apparently. Fact? Yes.

The spy might really not be the best example, since we are having the first contact here for the undead orrian elder dragon which produces risen.

orrian = population of Orr (even if dead)

undead = not living but moving creatures

risen = dragon corruption (which probably doesn’t even belong to this dragon or is affected through consuption of a certain magic)

As long as you don’t see a difference between risen and common undead and orrians, the whole discussion gets pointless.

Not sure why we’re having so much issue with this, but again.

It is not a bug.
Undead and risen are synonymous in this game. They literally are the same thing with different names, even if necromancer minions are also called undead.

Here. A black jaguar and a black leopard are both called panthers. But where I live, mountain lions are also called panthers – as well as being called cougars and pumas. It’s the same animal with many different names. Just because I might call a mountain lion a “panther” does not make that mountain lion the same thing as black leopard. It isn’t the same animal at all. They just share a name.
As well, whether you call it a panther, a puma, a cougar, or a mountain lion, it’s always the same animal, but not every animal called a panther is a mountain lion. Another example is calling a mountain lion a cat. It IS a cat, but it’s not the same thing as a house cat.

This sort of thing is exactly what is happening here with Risen. They fall under the “undead umbrella,” so it’s fine to refer to them as undead. The ones referred to as undead are not a different thing from other risen. They’re just risen under a different name, but not everything that is called undead is a risen, such as necromancer minions and whatever the hell Mad King Thorn’s minions are.

In this case, when you see monsters with the name “Risen” and “Undead” in a group together, or “Undead” working on Zhaitan’s side, they are always risen. I even confirmed earlier that these “undead,” when they have dialogue, have the exact same dialogue as normally named risen, and that undead wraiths are just the Elite version of risen wraiths. The reason why you would never see another undead type (such as Joko’s followers) mixed in with Risen is because the risen would absolutely slaughter them, no matter the intent of the Other-Undead. That’s just how risen work, and Zhaitan has never been noted to accept followers.

Aside from that, an NPC somewhere would acknowledge it if they were actually something else mixed in with the risen, like Sons of Svanir that haven’t gone icebrood yet. They’re fully acknowledged in the story. Just like they acknowledge that Jormag “accepts” willing followers. I know Anet likes to be vague sometimes, but not with things like that.

Regarding “undead” being in a separate position.. They’re not? The only time this happens that I can recall is whenever the Scout (risen drake with a translucent overlay) shows up without any other risen, and I think that only happens in the Priory and Order versions of the quest, where it’s called an “Orrian Scout” and “Risen Creature” respectively, even though it’s presumably the same creature in all three. I just did the Vigil version yesterday, it showed up with a risen shark (which isn’t noted at all on the wiki). This is the version where it’s called an “Undead Scout.”

Even “Undead Sharks” in Breaking the Bone Ship have risen thralls and risen sharks mixed in with them.

The singular exception to this that I can think of of the top of my head are the Shades that show up in the Cathedral of Silence during the Grenth Temple event, but to make things even more convoluted and funny, that’s because the Risen Priest is a necromancer and they’re undoubtedly his minions. Due to their master and the environment from which they were raised being corrupted, they should probably be considered corrupted/risen-by-proxy. Not to mention that those particular Shades, and I think only those, use an attack called “Corruption.”

It’s been bothering me for a bit, then I did the sleep emote on my asura and realized how bad it really is.

Anyway, the glow from the Glowing Crimson Mask sets so far forward it sticks out of my eyelids, so when I blink or shut my eyes during /sleep, it looks like I’m still staring, which is pretty creepy, and not in any sort of good way.

I don’t know if it’s a problem for other races or even asura using other faces. If you’re having this problem, feel free to share screens.

Shattered Achievement Nearly Impossible

I got the achievement around launch, without even intending to.. And I know good and well if I hadn’t gotten it then, I probably never would have.

If it helps, I was being a kinda oblivious engineer and just flamethrowering and grenading everything around me, which was around the Shatterer’s hands and in the general area in front of him. When he lifts his hand to cast, start hurling aoes at and in front of his hands, so long as there are players there.

I can see this being a disaster with megaservers, though. Good luck.

Again, you’re mistaking names and Tyrian namecalling for actuality. Tyrians all call the risen undead – the game is slewthed with such. To the average, and even some of the more learned Tyrians, “risen = undead” – because Zhaitan so rarely corrupts living beings, so all risen would be corpses risen from the grave (metaphorically speaking, and hence the name “risen”). But Risen, while fundamentally undead, are made differently than your standard undead (ala Palawa Joko). Again, we do not see an actual “standard undead” (such as those seen throughout GW1) in GW2 – yet. They are all risen.

Go into the personal story and check for yourself, please. Trahearne calls them very often orrians which is also true, but not for all risen. In our real world most people don’t know that a banana is technically a berry, so I don’t have a problem with omitting common mistakes. They see rotten corpses moving. What would you call them without digging deeper?

I’m not sure what you’re arguing here, as I’m having trouble reading your post, but he’s right in that every ‘undead’ in the game (walking corpse, or being made of corpses) which is not a necromancer minion is a risen, no matter what weird semantics went into naming it (Though, again, I’m not 100% sure that’s what you’re arguing…). I’ve looked at the Risen extensively and I’ve dealt with and fought every dead-thing that you can in this game. Here’s a list from the wiki:

Undead Abomination
Undead Grub
Undead Hylek
Undead Krait Hypnoss
Undead Scout
Undead Shark
Undead Wraith

They’re all Risen, as in, the corrupted servants of Zhaitan. I’ve dealt with all of them myself, they even use the same recorded dialogue as their normally named counterparts, talking about Zhaitan and Orr. For some reason, they just have vague names. The only real difference I can remember off the top of my head is that undead wraiths are Elite forms of risen wraiths.

@Acharyn
i dont know what you whant to say, but i think it is something like this.
“you cant take me seriously because you like how the sylvaris look at the moment and so its good because you can be happy with this”

so ok, im fine with the existing sylvari faces and hairs, i dont whant a change.

i just ask or please anet
that there will be in future 1 or 2 new faces and hairs look like some of this artworks i found. (for example the 3 of Ragnars post, looks still like sylvaris but looks rly good!)

for me the sylvaris are at the moment really dragon minions like a post in this
forum sayed.
if you try to create a sylvari it leads 80% to zombie looks and 20% to
a bit good looking female sylvaris. (thats just my mind about that)

if the most ppls like that im fine with that,
i just ask for a long hair style and a bit better looking face (if there will come more in the future)

picture 1 dragon minions.
picture 2 the closest way for me how i get my sylvari look ok

There’s nothing supporting the theory of sylvari being racial-wide dragon minions, but there are things that support that they are not dragon minions. Malyck, for example. Among other things that I really don’t want to get into because goodness knows we don’t need another “sylvari are dragon minions” thread.

Your first image looks like over half those faces are cranked out with some of the most unflattering slider settings I’ve seen. Those faces normally look much better than that, and I don’t even play female sylvari, only male. I see a lot of leafy ladies. The image even repeats the same faces with different slider settings multiple times.

Your second image was done by this artist, btw, just to get some sources up in here: http://magicnaanavi.deviantart.com/art/Sylvari-304895546

It sounds like you want a very humanoid face, but the point is that they are plants in the shape of humans, not humans that look a bit leafy. There are already a few faces that are so human they make me stop and puzzle at how on earth this thing is a plant mashed into a people shape (hello Caithe).

I don’t want to begrudge you your interests or try to say “no not allowed” or anything like that, but they’re stated to be a certain way. In my eyes it’s kinda like wanting a more neko-like charr, I guess. (yeah, harhar, Rox).

Regarding your sylvari, trying to make it look like that image. It’s possible to get closer even without changing her coloring like I did, I used your face. You could get the stripes on forehead effect with one of the gem store facepaint masks, probably.

Game lag and disconnections

in Account & Technical Support

Egon Vidar.9125

Came back to play on the 15th and I’ve been having this problem the whole time. Other games run fine, etc.

First thing I did coming back was run CoF Story with my guild, and they wanted me to bring my zerker warrior. Barrels of fun on a ten second delay. Had to sit out the end because it was impossible for me to participate with lag + giant fiery death-boulders.

As well and probably also latency related, my downed skill 4 would never work during that run and I kept constantly dropping dead when nowhere near combat, no downed state and no armor damage. I suspect the latency was causing the game to detect me walking off a cliff, while to me and my party, I was standing healthy in the group one second and dead on the ground at their feet the next.

I have had pretty awful lag aside from that CoF run, but that was the pinnacle of horrific lag since the patch so far.

Can anyone really see through the clutter?

Please allow us to move the minimap to the left of the map (so I can have chat and minimap to the left). I am blind on the right and it makes navigating very difficult.

I don’t know how much more I have to ask. T_T The UI was modular in GW1 and that made it one of the most accessible games that I’ve played. All I’m asking for is to move the minimap to the opposite corner.

Meanwhile, blind on my left, love having the chat stuck immobile on my left side. I have to turn my entire head to the left to read it with my good eye. I’d be shocked if anything were done to help out with that sort of thing, we saw how well it went for the colorblind at launch/during beta.

.By performance I’m talking about the work we’re doing to improve server lag when large #‘s of players come together we’ve been updating on lately that has been a major discussion topic lately.

Obviously graphical performance is a type of performance as well, my point is it’s not the part we’re currently as focused on, but are also well aware of and want to improve.

I can be in a map full for Teq before the event starts rolling and have no problem with this absolutely massive swarm of people. But if I don’t drop down to best performance before they start flinging particles, you bet I’m going to crash. Sometimes even then I might anyway. I bought my computer this year. In early March. It’s not the greatest rig in the world, but that doesn’t matter. It wouldn’t be an issue at all if I could just turn particle FX off or at least down.

I can’t see kitten. I just “swing away” and pray I hit a home run.

I usually play an Engineer because I enjoy it the most and its range works best with my visual problems, but some things just call for my zerker warrior. God help me if multiple eles show up to the party, or the flame-on-crit folks.

Even my engineer is a problem sometimes. I use grenade kit underwater, and one of my friends has eyes very sensitive to light, and my ‘good’ eye is as well. The blinding grenade (hah) is absolutely physically painful, she’s asked me to not use it around her. I at least have the benefit of knowing when to look away from my screen when I’m the one using it.

Also, to whoever mentioned it causing an epileptic seizure, the flamethrower does strobe weirdly. I play a kit engie with heavy flamethrower usage on land and it really gives you a headache after a while. Even before reading your post, I’ve considered ceasing use of it because a health issue puts me at heightened risk for a seizure, and I certainly don’t want to send someone else to the hospital or potentially even kill them with my stupid flamethrower. You post is just confirmation that I should probably (definitely) use a different setup, until something is done about it.

April can’t get here sooner.

SURPRISE!

Reminds me of the companion statement to “play the game, not the UI”.

Something about how you could turn of the 3D engine completely in GW1 and still play the game because all the relevant data was in the UI.

Those two in combination make me wonder if PVE is a artist driven project, and we are locked into the zoom and such to show of their handiwork on models, maps and graphics FX.

It’s my job to illustrate (despite the hilarious aforementioned semi-blindness to go with it), so I am in the art field and get to deal with people in there a lot. I sincerely doubt that’s the case, but I do know this game was an intended console title at one point. That went bad or was just left to rot, but the crap camera remained. It used to be worse. People started throwing up from the motion sickness from it, myself included. Had to stop playing for a bit during that. They fixed it, because making your customers vomit is never a good thing, really.

It’s probably actually a reversal. A lot of artists would be kinda sad at their hard work being covered up by an ocean of particle FX. I have to look up most big bosses on the wiki to see what they actually look like. I’ve met map artists and level designers from other games and they don’t seem quite as sensitive about that sort of thing in general, but I could see it annoying the crap out of modelers and texture artists, heh.

Although if I did map work I’d be kinda annoyed at the massive bloom effect caused by Post Processing, holy moly is that a big wad of ugly. Any character of mine wearing celestial dyed armour glows like a lighthouse beacon with that turned on.
