I don’t get it… wouldn’t you feel MORE left out if a one-time event dropped a cosmetic skin that you could NEVER get again instead of something that, however difficult, you could get in the game normally? I mean, you can trade in karka shells for the accessory, you can buy a twenty-slot bag on the trading post or craft one for yourself if you have the funding, you have a chance (even if it’s smaller than the odds of finding a shiny pokemon) to get a precursor off every mob in the game or you can save all your gold to buy them… Even if you missed out, it’s an attainable goal. A unique item that you can never get again? Now that would make me feel left out… not only would I not get to do the event, I’d also miss out on a really cool item I’ll never have a shot at again.

Nope. I won’t feel bad about it because it’s just cosmetic. It won’t increase my inventory with 20 slots. It won’t give me better stats. It won’t also make me farm for those shells and golds for precursor if I aim for legendary, or buying the 20 slot bag. If they have the shirt, or whatever cosmetic, it’s okay. It won’t hurt my effort and money.

But the reward made the acquisition of those items easier – be it gold or time. They just have to attend that event for 2.5 hours and poof, rewarded with ossom stuff whereas those who haven’t attended will still have to farm for them. Nice for those who were there. It saved them the time to farm and silvers to spend. Some got even more than silvers. Hope you get our point. Hehe

The TLDR of the past week is;

=>Vocal minority locusts QQ they have nothing to do, even though they probably haven’t done most of the content yet anyway.

=> Anet introduces the Ascended gear treadmill to shut them up.

=> Vocal majority, also the legit fans of the game go WTF?!?!

=> Legit fans explain in detail why it’s a bad idea, what’s wrong with it, and what they could have done instead of adding grind.

=> Apologists don’t understand the consequences, nor the other group’s viewpoint, and tell the legit fans to leave the game.

=> So the legit fans leave when Anet makes no attempt to respond to the PR disaster.

And now there’s a 50 / 50 chance this will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in the history of gaming. Well, I think anyway.

Add to that the One Time Event wherein they gave out shinies and people who attended got to roll the dice, then some of them got extremely lucky by getting precursors, but most of the Oceanic and Asian players weren’t able to get the chance of rolling that dice because of timezone differences. xD

New Dungeon
I love the new dungeon – Fractals! It was really fun. The only problem I have is when a party member disconnects, they’ve lose their progress. Also, the remaining party might experience more difficulty because they lost a member. We also needed an LFG tool for this one, AND some players didn’t want to invite people with lower fractal levels because they can’t progress to the next level. If they did, they’re like wasting they’re time, probably. So I guess that created a problem.

One Time Events
I love one time events btw because I think they’re awesome and make this game unique. I haven’t attended Phases 1 and 2 though because they were 4AM my time. I didn’t bother much about them since the rewards were just so-so, and I heard the events were kidna buggy and laggy, so I was kinda happy I didn’t stay up late or wake up too early for it.

The Phase 3 one was a different story. The only problem I have is the kind of reward they give out in this one-time event. I think you shouldn’t give these shinies in one-time events where not everyone will have the equal chance to get it (esp. the chance of getting a precursor) – or in other words, equal chance to roll the dice. Please don’t punish some players, esp. the Oceanic community, just because the event went at 4AM our time.

Like one player said in the forums: The expensive items people got from it was just rubbing salt in the wound for the players who couldn’t make it. Not nice.

I wasn’t upset about people getting precursors, because I know they just got really lucky. I was just upset that you put this reward wherein not all people can attend. Also, it would save us lil time to farm and lil silvers or golds to spend for the 20 slot bag and the accessory.

Question.. of sorts.

Someone also did that to our party, he went away, then PM’d me “You guys messed up bigtime. I’m a Commander in my main toon. I’ll definitely report you and your guild in the server alliance. I’ll let insert main Commander name here know about this!”

But the funny part was, the main Commander he just mentioned was a friend of mine in real life and it’s also the same person who invited us to join the server alliance (he asked our guild to transfer to their server). In the end, the person who threatened us was a liar.

Alright, I’ve become incredibly lost and fed up with this issue at this point.
So we all know about ascended gear, and infusions, ect.

Okay..so here is my source:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/13gj0p/ascended_gear_and_infusions_how_to_make_them_and/

Naturally if I was to participate in getting ascended gear, I need a back piece.

+17 Power
+24 Toughness
+1% Critical Damage
+32 Toughness
+18 Power
+4% Critical Damage
Yeah, that looks good. Materials?

1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence- havent gotten one yet, but alright.
50 Globs of Ectoplasm- little steep, but i guess it is a brand new back piece.
24 skill points- alright, sure.
250 Teir 6 fine crafting material- um..what?
And that 250 tier 6 is for my piece is…armored scales!
The only time i’ve ever farmed armored scales is when i need some for a weapon I was crafting. After 2.5-3 hours of farming drakes (in MF gear), i ended up with…2!
And Balthazaar knows i probably hit the DR before the first one even kitten dropped..

Moving along..
We need to infuse this gear, yeah? Lets see..

Base back slot item-Okay..
Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence- Havent gotten one still, but alright..
Gift of Ascension- 500 fractal shards…thats pretty annoying, but alright?
250 Globs of Ectoplasm-LOL? Are we catering to those that got rich via exploiting the precursor farming? (And sure, ecto isnt THAT expensive, but a whole stack for ONE piece?)

So, at this point, the “end game” achievement..is a fractal weapon. You need the ascended gear to get there, ect, and those are basically the “end goal” from the high fractal difficulties.

Except…hell, i wont even try to guess how many people will actually make it there.

But the problem is..WHY IS EVERYTHING LIKE THIS?
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE/REQUIRES A kitten AMOUNT OF MATERIALS?
WHY AM I REQUIRED TO GAIN A LARGE AMOUNT OF MATERIALS IN A GAME THAT HAS VERY STRICT REGULATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO GRINDING?

Seriously? I am required to have absurd materials, which requires me to grind, but I cannot do that because of diminishing returns and grind regulations.

What is going on anymore?

I laughed so hard. OMG! =))

People are still crying because other guys got better loot… envy sux (my best piece of loot was worth less than 5g but you wont see me crying because other people had better drops).

At least you got the 20 slot bag and the karka shell. We didn’t have it. Hehe. It would have saved us time to farm and golds to spend for it if we’re able to attend the event, but we didn’t because the event happened 4AM Monday our timezone. Gratz btw

If the next one time events will reward us this kind of items, and the chance to get a precursor, I think I will have to stay up late or wake up early just to attend. And if it’s going to be again, 2.5 hours to complete, that would be from 4AM to almost 7:30AM for us. And if it’s on a Sunday PST, that’s Monday for us.

Sooo if the event ends at 7:30AM and we still have work/school coz it’s Monday, uhm.. I dunno what I should do, but I really don’t want to miss the event just to get the rewards because it’ll help me to advance in the game, at least. 20 slots in my inventory and lil increase in my stats. It will definitely save me time to farm and a few silver or golds too.

Edit: I love one time events btw because I think they’re awesome and make this game unique. The only problem I have is the kind of reward they give out in one-time events. I think they shouldn’t give these shinies in one-time events where not everyone will have the equal chance to get it (esp. the chance of getting a precursor).

About the rewards: I would have considered it extremely lame if they would have felt the need to make people participate by telling them “hey, come participate in our event, you may get precursors”. They told us for WEEKS to participate and when it would be. You chose to not participate, so you missed out. No sympathy from me, unlike for those who would have LIKED to participate without knowing about the nice rewards but could not because of real life/timezone issues.

It’s not that we chose not to participate. The one-time event starts at 4AM Monday my timezone. We’ve got RL responsibilities too, but of course, we still wanted to know what happened in those events. I haven’t participated Phases 1 and 2 because again, that’s 4am my time, and knowing that the rewards were just meh (plus some people said the events were kinda buggy), I was kinda thankful I didn’t stay up late or wake up that early just to participate.

But the Phase 3 is a different one. If I only knew that those are the rewards, I would surely join. It would save me some silvers or golds and time to farm because they are awesome rewards. Even if it’s 4AM, I’d surely want to be there. But I didn’t know, and I thought it’ll be just same as the Mad King. The Mad King was epic, but it didn’t make me feel bad not attending since I can still face him in battle anytime.

But fortunately, I was able to make it to the event Monday morning my time. I set aside my paperworks just for the 2.5 hour-event, just because the moment I woke up and went online, I saw guildmates posting in Facebook the awesome stuff they got, and they’re encouraging us to participate. I did participate. Guess what? We got disconnected at the last part. No loot, yes. It’s sad, though I had fun doing it even though I didn’t do my RL work. Lol. And I’m still hoping to get the compensation Anet said.

I do hope they won’t do this again (not the one-time events because I love them, but the part where they give out this type of rewards in a one time event) because I still feel sorry for my fellow Oceanic players who weren’t able to make it. They missed the chance bigtime.

2 Precursors from the chest? Really?

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Celesica.5790

Celesica.5790

I wouldn’t miss a funeral of a beloved one no matter what they announce so what’s your point? Is it that ANet has to make sure that you’re not in the toilet before the event ends?

Can’t you see how ridiculous those arguments are?

My point is they shouldn’t make one time events with epic rewards where some of their players can’t attend. I hope you do see it. Sure, of course they wouldn’t miss that funeral, but at least when they go back and play the game ‘after the funeral they attended’, the chance to get a precursor or those shinies is still there available for them. Lucky or not, at least they were given the equal chance.

I’m not against people who got precursors, that’s totally okay for me because yep, they just got lucky. I also LOVE the one-time events in fact, because that’s one of the reasons that make this game kind of unique and fun as well.

But the thing is, the reward has been given in a one time event where everyone can’t attend. Sure, some people don’t care about the loots, but somehow, they got items which can save a little money to spend and a little time to farm, coz eventually, we will need those items (20 slots more in our bag, a decent stat increase with the accessory). That was the problem I’m referring to.

2 Precursors from the chest? Really?

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Celesica.5790

Celesica.5790

I hope they made it available to everyone (not the precursor but the chest), not in a one-time event. That would make it somehow fair I guess since everyone is there, the item is just there, who gets to open it and get precursors is really worth of the “luck” a lot of people are saying. But then, they made it available as a reward in a one-time event, wherein not all can of course attend (especially the Oceanic community).

So the chance is just given to those who can make it. Those who can’t aren’t included. Why they can’t = a number of reasons of course. It’s Monday morning, some people need to work, go to school, attend an important meeting, went to a funeral, etc.

If that’s really just for a one-time event, at least inform everyone prior to the event that “hey we’re giving this reward: the chance to get a precursor and a guaranteed 20 slot bag + acc. save yourself hours of farming golds. don’t miss this chance! it’s one time event!”, then maybe people can decide after that. No one can complain since it’s given yet they decided to miss the chance. It’s their choice.

Btw, Ive seen a lot of people crying because they didnt get precursos from chests and they really wanted. Well, those sound like spoiled kids to me. Random is suposed to be random. I have no complaints about the rewards (even though the best piece Ive got was worth less than 5g). The chest had epics and rares, which is better than 95% of the game content, that rewards loads of crap. Well, I would like to get a precursor, but wont cry because I didnt. I got 2 epics (4 if you count the bag and the karka jewel), a lvl 78 shield and a lvl 80 helm. That was good enough for me, even though the event was ultra boring.

People are complaining because the chance of getting them has not been given fairly/equally to everyone. If people were aware that this event is going to give them the chance to get shinies and guaranteed 20 slot bags + a decent accessory, then that’s perfectly fine. Sure, they can farm these items anywhere, but just being there at that one time event saved them a lot of time and money.

One time events, I believe, shouldn’t be something like, “I should attend it, coz if I don’t, I will miss a whole lot”. This time, they lost the experience of killing the Ancient Karka and the chance of getting those shinies. One time events are optional, but they shouldn’t make you feel really really bad or regret a lot because you’re not there.

The chance of getting these shinies should be available for everyone. However, it isn’t. Why? It’s a one-time event, and it’s optional. None of us here knows what the rewards are prior to the event. If people were aware, then maybe they can decide of whether to attend the event or not.

I wasn’t able to attend Phases 1 and 2 because those were around 4AM my timezone (I didn’t really bothered about them because the rewards were meh), but I was able to be in Phase 3. I didn’t really have a plan on attending it too due to work (it’s Monday morning my time), but when guildmates said some of them got precursors, and most of them got guaranteed 20 slot bags and a decent accessory, I know I had to set aside work for a while and do the event because “hey it’s my chance. This is just one time. I don’t have to farm for these stuff if ever I got them.” I didn’t know it’ll run for about 2.5 hours so yep, I set aside work for that.

Unfortunately, I was one of those who got disconnected at the last part. Never got the loot. Tried to do it once again, but then new build came up and they removed the events already. Was too late for me. Though it was disappointing, I’m still hoping for the compensation ANet said that they’re going to give to those who got dc’d.

But of course, I still feel so sorry for those who weren’t able to make it. They did miss something that’s quite bigtime.

This patch: the problem is now the LOOT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celesica.5790

Celesica.5790

Purely based on my observations.

People are having problems with FotM because some players wouldn’t want to group with them. Why? Because these players couldn’t progress further and get BETTER LOOTS.

People are complaining about the Lost Shores finale one time event because of the SHINY LOOTS. The chance to get precursors, the guaranteed 20 slot bag, the accessory, and some decent exotic and rares. A lot of them got disconnected during the final part, and complained because they haven’t got the loots. A lot of them complained because they weren’t around the one-time event due to timezone differences. They didn’t expect that the rewards for it would be these ‘wondrous’ loots.

I thought this game is all about balance and being “fair and equal” in some way, wherein players wouldn’t feel inferior and superior to each other when it comes to gear/stuff, wherein there’s not much competition but cooperative gameplay. That’s why there’s level scaling. That’s why the leveling is easy because levels don’t matter a lot in GW2. That’s why most of the awesome stuff in-game and in the gem store are purely cosmetic.

But this patch: everybody is now fussing all about the loots. This has divided the community in some way. It makes me sad because I haven’t seen it coming. I don’t know if it’s just the players’ mindset or… there’s some sort of a mistake in here.

If it’s not fun don’t play it. If you don’t like the one time events, don’t play the game. Find something you like that does everything you want. Why play something you’re just annoyed at that just keeps annoying you?

This made me sad while reading it, because Guild Wars 2 is such a really great game. I really love it. But this event has gave me the most frustrating and disappointing experience I ever had in GW2. I hate to think of it, but I couldn’t do anything, because that’s how it already made me feel. I think 3-5 of my guildmates got precursors, and 2 of my Tumblr followers who play GW2 got precursors also. And yep, the 20-slot bags are expensive in-game. That’s why people are kinda upset because the event gave players the chance to no longer have to farm for the golds that the bag costs. It’s guaranteed. If I’m there, then yay! If I’m not, then screw me, I should have been there!

But my case was, I was there, but just late (event started at 4am my time. Thankfully, the event repeats in several hours). I was close to finishing it but then I got disconnected during the last part. It was quite frustrating, tbh. I attempted to try it again, but new build came and the whole event is over. I loved the event. I don’t like the rewards, since it’ll kinda be unfair to those players who won’t be able to attend it since it’s one time event. I didn’t get my loot too because I got dc’d at the last part. About 5% of my guild got loots. 95% of us didn’t. We’re over a hundred inside our guild btw. So yep. They didn’t whine or complain though since it already happened and we couldn’t do anything about it. One thing’s for sure. We’re not happy, we’re sad and disappointed. But we’ll still keep playing.

I did the event with most of my guildies who got the same fate as mine – disconnected, and some were working or went to school because the event started at 4am our time, Monday – not the perfect time like you guys have hehe. We live in Asia.

I’m not from WoW. I complained because:

1. My timezone. Event is like 4am to me.
2. I was happy that the event repeats in several hours. But when I finally did it, I got disconnected during the last part wherein we’re about to kill the thing. No, I didn’t get any loot, at all.
3. Did it again, but the new build came so… nope, never got another chance again.
4. Actually, I didn’t really want to bother about one time events BUT… They’re giving the chance to get a “PRECURSOR” and sure loot of a 20 slot bag in this One Time Event.

It’s kinda unfair to those who can’t attend due to timezones (work/school/other RL responsibilities). Some got the chest twice in the same account, while most didn’t even have any loot at all.

I simply wasn’t able to do the one-time event because that was already 4am here in my timezone. I logged in the morning (around 10am), received those mails and puzzled of what to do. Good thing there’s dulfy guides, but still, I missed the one-time event. I haven’t seen any awesome Karka events yet. Just the Young Karka DE (only once) at Caledon Forest which only took like less than 10 minutes to finish. And that’s it. I waited there for a while, waited in LA too, and in Kessex that maybe they would appear again. Lol. But someone told me it’s just a one-time event, so I left those areas and entered the Fractals instead.

The finale will also be around 4am Monday my time. I dunno if I could attend that one too because I got work in the morning. I’m from Asia. We get the love least. :<

They are currently executing their vision of their game as of now, but with regards to the Ascended and Infusion stuff, they already said their goal isn’t to create a gear treadmill but a proper progression for players. We’re not sure yet if it’ll be an endless grind for better gears. What if when people play the new content, they’ll be able to get those new gear in just weeks, and then in a month everyone has it? What if not? Well, we don’t know yet because it’s not there yet, right? How can we know the amount of time to dedicate just to get this new gear? Afaik, GW2 is all about choosing how you want to progress and spend your time. How can we know that they are uber better gears than exotics? We still can’t verify this if we haven’t tested them yet.

If this IS their vision, why have they never told us about it during 5 years of blogs and community info, during a frenzy of sales leading up to; and immediately after launch?

I’m sorry I can’t answer this because I don’t know why, too? Lol. But there were reasons why they did this for sure. You might want to go back to Linsey’s blog post.

If this is NOT their vision of the game, why are they doing it?

For the game? For us? For the reasons they have stated why they did this?

The only mistake I’ve seen that ANet did about this whole thing is how they delivered the message. Linsey haven’t stated that in the future, Ascended can be acquired from other PvE and WvW aspects of the game, while Chris did that assurance. But before I’d assume and jump into conclusions and call them names or whatsoever, I’d have to play this new content first before I’ll judge, and see how the community grows/declines using these new stuff.

So far ANet hasn’t let me down. It’s still 3 months, so I can understand why some of the bugs aren’t yet fully fixed. But overall, it has been really awesome, for me. And about the new gears and stuff, I can’t say they’ve let me down just because of pure assumptions bases on words posted in a single blog post. I’ll have to see and experience it myself first starting on the 16th, before I judge. I’m so excited!

I appreciate the sentiment that things have been fun. Lots of games do fun gear grinds.

Arenanet has been 5 years browbeating everyone about why their no gear grind philosophy is superior. From the ground up and as far back as gw1 prophecies they’ve advocated horizontal content scaling. I’ve offered plenty of video clips of Colin and Eric stating this as well as quotes from many on the design team.

So regardless of whether you found the game fun….

Do you think arenanet is executing their vision on the game? Why the sudden change of heart if not? Why hide it from us during presales if so?

Answer those if you want to contribute anything to this thread.

" Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say."

Judgments based on words from the people directly involved are by definition not pure assumptions. Likewise, the debate ultimately involves comparisons to similar systems in other games—comparisons that Anet itself made when it said it would never do this. So by all means, be excited and see for yourself, but understand that you don’t understand what you’re talking about.

I understand, that’s why I said it’s fine. And yep, I’m really REALLY excited
How people react to a thing that is not even there yet, is.. oh nvm, it’s obvious. xD

There are always players who assume negatively, aka doomsayers. :/
Why can’t be happy we got new content and it looks awesome. Play it first, before judging. If you think everything about it has a problem because you experienced it hands-on, then you have the right to complain. :/
Not disappointed with ANet (yet), but with those kind of players. I thought GW2 has the most awesome MATURE community. It turned out to be different.

Agreed, people are way in over their heads. Like always, whiny brats. It’s sad, it really is.

In order to be heard, you have to make a noise.

So long as you know what you’re really shouting about ^^

And we’ll “exactly” know that in 2 days, so people whining in advance is quite ridiculous. :p

There is a blog post.
What it says is that there will be a new tier of gear with higher stats than exotics.
If there are other things about it they didnt say, it is ALSO their fault. They should write better their blogposts.
We MUST say what we think about the idea this blogpost brings.

You can’t tell what happens inside a whole book in one blog post. You have to experience the journey that book offers. It’s never a fault if you don’t want to spoil everything.

And that blog post, is the cover of the book. Don’t judge the book by its cover.

Crafting is worthless now, because u cant craft the best things in the game anymore….why would anyone start crafting now? Uh, I see, just to blow up time and gold….

How did you know that crafting is worthless NOW when you are not yet sure what the future has in store for you yet? Don’t tell me you’re a doomsayer

I couldn’t vote simply because…. I don’t know how these Ascended stuff and Infusion work yet. I don’t want to assume if I haven’t played them first.

GAMERS play the game then review. RAGE QUITTING just because of speculations is totally meaningless. Lol.

I’m going to try the new thing first then see how it affects the gameplay and what people are ASSUMING here are true.

Then I’m going to vote after that, OKAY?

But haven’t you heard? Knee jerk reactions are the in thing now!!

I’m afraid some people killed themselves already because they heard the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012. Oh noes!

It does beg the question, what happens when we all have ascended gear in our slots and those that want this kind of grind demand yet another carrot to continue playing the game? It’s very disheartening IMHO to see Anet abandon the core principle that grind should be for cosmetics alone, and that skill, not stats should determine the winners.

I’m terribly disappointed by this news, and frustrated by the relative lack of communication and details from Anet in the face of the backlash. Linsey’s blog post was helpful, but seems to confirm the worst of what I feared from this update.

I don’t know exactly how we get the ascended items, and I hope that when the update comes out the system for getting them somehow relieves my concerns. At this point, however; it looks like the beginning of the same power creep and item grind that I found so incredibly distasteful in WoW and other MMOs.

I loved GW1 because I knew when I hit max level and got items with the stats that I wanted I wouldn’t have to grind for something better a year down the road unless I wanted a special skin. That was a huge selling point of GW2 for me, and a large number of my friends. This update seems to throw that away.

We are not sure yet what will happen. Let us, again, wait, and see.

I don’t want to say bad things about ANet yet because I’m not sure how this new mechanic and new items work until I experience them. I don’t want to whine without any valid reason/proof. Don’t judge the book by its cover, they say. :/

You will be handicaped if you don’t have it, so you are forced due to stats.

Edit: Nothing to do with agony, agony is just a mechanic that I can deal with.

LOL. xD

It’s still November. I’m willing to wait and see, before I start complaining about them not adding those new stuff yet. Gear grind? Is it already happening? Or just purely assumptions from a blog post and few PRs? What if on day 1 you’ll instantly get it? What if not? We’re not sure yet.

Anyways, there’s only one thing I want now: Guesting.

So, before people judge, let’s experience it ourselves first and then prove if ANet really betrayed their manifesto. I understand why the devs are silent, because they don’t want to spoil the whole thing. Surprise, surprise.
