You can do what some players are doing and AFK farm leather and such in Mount Maelstrom killing nightmare court. I’ve seen them having their heal skill in auto cast which may prevent the game from auto-logging them to the character select screen. Another place that I have seen people is in Harathi Hinterlands killing centaurs.

I haven’t personally done any of these so I can’t vouch what the gold per hour is but it appears to be something that can be done AFK. You’ll just need to be on a class such as a ranger so you can use your pets to kill them. You’ll get the various loot bags which can contain the expensive materials.

^ – Under the JP Chest Not SO secret. People park there and leave minions on for Necros. Just continuously killing things I’m guessing wiht a random macro auto-loot.

So, things drop in the original areas before HoT, like Teq Tailpieces, that I can only use if I upgrade to HoT? That’s just stupid. My rewards for finishing their content is useless trash I need to spend $50 on to use. Hardly a reward.

I think it’s pretty poor form. Put HoT drops in HoT places.

Or is this a way of guiding the ever present: “Buy HoT!” on pretty much every screen.

Game will still be here (maybe) in a year or two if you want to come have a revisit. But I suggest taking a break like I’m doing. Possibly for a year or so I think would be good. It actually feels nice not to log in. Because you don’t get that frustrated feeling of wasting your time.

Nice prices on ascended salvage kits

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Scoundrel.2139

Scoundrel.2139

I like it.

The highest tier of salvaging should have a cost barrier, otherwise it makes getting those legendary parts trivial and meaningless. Looking forward to salvaging my 400 or so rings when i finish downloading the patch.

So what if someone is not interested in the legendaries? I couldn’t care less about them, so rings are still utterly useless to me.

Your options are:
1. Sell unneeded ascended items to vendor for +coins
2. Salvage unneeded ascended items for Legendary crafting for -coin -relics

Seems pretty reasonable to me. You’re only salvaging if you are working on a Legendary and those are SUPPOSED to be expensive.

Except, selling them to vendor gets you less gold (silver) than what you could get from a rare or exotic ring (which you can salvage).

Then in this case, one would rather have rare rings than the ascended ones, how does that make sense from a design perspective?

If you haven’t bought HoT, is it worth it to salvage rings?

My understanding is that you get Stab matrices or whatever for a fotm mastery track/line/trait. But, if I have heaps of rings, and salvage them, will I even be able to use them? I has a hope I’m wrong

No, it’s not worth salvaging them even with HoT masteries unlocked, especially since we don’t even know how much of those materials we’re going to need atm.

Thanks mate!

I’ll hold for now.

We Don't Make Grindy Games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scoundrel.2139

Scoundrel.2139

How many times are people going to come in here and call the game grindy as if anything that isn’t instant gratification is grind?

The only things that you could argue are grind are optional bonuses and rewards that aren’t necessary. Those are there for the people who want to be hardcore.

It’s okay for hardcore players to have things you don’t. It’s okay to not have every new feature unlocked after 2 days of playing the expansion.

I keep seeing this Instant Gratification line being tossed around. People forget players didnt know the full content until after getting the xpac. If the content doesn’t match their expectations then they leave feedback.

Yes, they can do this in a day. You don’t need to play content to know what it is. I know what is required for a legendary without having one or getting one.

Scoundrel.2139

Remember when “A long time” in an MMO was at least 1 year?

Since when did “A long time” become 1 day?

This is just laughable. The instant gratification is the downfall of society.

I don’t think it’s an Instant Gratification thing. The arguments seem to be more towards ’I thought/I was told I would be getting XYZ for my $, but I only got half of X. Y and Z are either gated or to be released “later”.

That wasn’t known until full release so now they’ve d/l the xpac, seen what it has, some people feel they haven’t received the promised product. They can see what the xpac offers within a day so they provide feedback within that day.

Those who know the answer to your question, can’t tell you. Those who try to tell you, don’t know. It’s all speculation.

I’ve stored several types of containers in the past, in anticipation of a massive game upheaval. I’ve “guessed” correctly one out of four times. (That sounds bad, until you remember that if I guess correctly this time, it would be 2/5, which is as close to 50-50 as I could get with only five tries.)

tl;dr flip a coin: if you’re right, great; if you’re wrong, you can blame an inanimate object for your losses.

Actually, 3/5 is as close to 50-50 as 2/5.

What do i win?

Actually, you don’t win. :P
as I could get with only five tries as Was Na has tried four times with only one more try remaining, with the one success, 2/5 is as close as he can get, with the one extra

I do win. Because he then would have said the last or the 5th try, not with 5 tries

It’s a simple tally.

“Only 5 tries”. He has used 4. He has one left, bearing in mind he said “in only” and “as close I can get with”. With one success and 1 try remaining, 3/5 is an impossibility.

You lose, general Kenobi! :P

My feedback in relation to the expansion is: Don’t put it the whiz-bang “Hey ExpansioN!” at the end of the LS2.

I just finished LS2 last night, I know I know it took a while to get to, but it felt a little like I’d gone to the hairdressers and got 3/4 of a cut. The they twirl me in the chair, say “hey presto!”. I look in the mirror and ask “but you missed 1/2 of it”. They just smile and hold out their hand…

Expansion should really be it’s own story. I can’t finish the story I bought unless I pay for it. My story ends with someone telling me to buy an expansion to finish it. Literally, up pops HoT “to continue your adventure, play HoT!”

Put that somewhere else. Give me closure on the story I paid for.

~snip~

I think you guys get it, and I understand that some of you are pretty “hot under the collar” about the event. But please try to give us ideas we can work with — that’s to everyone’s benefit.

I think the problem is that some people are “hot under the collar” because a player base (at least I feel) should not have to give you ideas you can work with during a live event. This should have all been done before; because the devs I’m sure didn’t just wake up, get into the office early, and throw all this together on a whim.

The idea of minimal participation/grind rewards was exactly working as intended, and it’s this initial intent that some of the players hate. To come out after and say “we didn’t realise” shows or implies to some a lack of homework on the expectations of customers or a lack of interest/research into the way players act during events like this.

This alongside the HoT release problems a while back seems to show a systemic issue with checking expectations ( and bugs :P ) before release.

I hope it can do better in future.

However, I now have the ’buyer’s hesitation’, and found plenty of things in my Steam Library to do instead. I remain unconvinced about Anet’s sincerity and believe this only an effort to stop the rot. After thinking about the pre-purchase price a few days, I really have only one objection:

Those of us who have regularly purchased gems since release are treated the same as those who only convert gold to gems and never actually purchased gems.

I understand the promotional discount to new players as a temporary thing and I understand the steep price (assuming that price buys two more years of continuous investment by Arenanet).

I purchase gems with real money to support maintenance and development and am disappointed at receiving the same offer as players who do not support the game financially.

I can’t really buy into this argument, pardon the pun. I wouldn’t go to my local {insert shop with membership} and say “I bought stuff last week. I got what I bought and I like it. But I want to now retro-actively use that money spent as credit toward a future discount”.

I may have missed your point, and if I have I apologise, but I think I got it.

You clearly do not realize this actually does work like this in real life. Sellers do give discounts to repeat and volume purchase customers.

As far as I can tell there are really only two (three, if I’m picky) problems.

- Firstly, though, can I just say that adding the base game to the bundle is a fantastic idea. It doesn’t decrease your game value, in fact if it gets more people in it increases it. Your game just got more ‘Multi’. Don’t get why people are up in arms over it.

- However, as an expansion I would have expected Anet to realise “Hey, you played our game for 3 years! How awesome is it? You probably filled your character slots in your travels and we get that. So have one extra slot so you can roll a Rev”. It rewards loyalty. Take two scenarios:
1. I play casually. Not right into the game, but still like it. Expac! I can roll a Rev straight off as I have 2-3 maybe slots free.
2. I play all the time. Love the game. Can’t get off. I rave about it to friends. I have no free slots, in fact I have 9 alts. I’ve paid money to Anet to deck them out in all their Gem-store shiny goodness. Wait? I have to delete one now or pay $10 to roll that new Rev?What? No. I love my characters.

- The FAQ thing. That was just dastardly.

- The third is just being picky. When I bought GW2 it was for the base game. It was advertised that it was B2P. However, the expac is not a new story, it’s a continuation. So I can’t finish the game I bought without buying something. I feel like I bought my box set Star Wars, and found out at the end of Empire that ROTJ will cost me $10 extra. If it was a new story, no problem.

As an end summary, that price. This will change with everyone. Some think it’s cheap (yes, they’re out there), some expensive, some think it’s right. I think it’s a bit high, especially as I need to pay $10 on top to get another Character slot. But market forces should work this one out in it’s slow, relentless, method.

Heart of Thorns, if it is to be paid, I would have thought it would be a separate story. If I get a B2P game with story, and that story is half finished and I need to pay to get the rest, it’s a bit of a let down.

Like buying the LOTR trilogy, but after The Two Towers you find you need to to pay $50 to get the final installment. :P
