The issue seems to me to be the angle of viewing.

We’re all looking at them at a very steep angle if you are on similar height terrain. Basically, you’re looking at a circle almost on edge, and anything inside that circle is a complete munge.

Different colors would be helpful.

Again, the #5 has been nerfed down to 3/4ths of a second of increased run speed.

It’s not the “get out of moa form free” skill that it was previously.

…Yet people keep referring to it as if it is.

Indeed, this is a major reason I love the thief. Unless I’m up against a PU mesmer (occasionally) or condition necro/engineer – or you blasted tanky has hell warriors – I can make a conscious decision about a retreat or do I balls to the walls it and enjoy a good death.

T1 has gotten unplayable lately. I had a fun incident where a JQ guy and me started a fight, and neither of us could hit the other – no skills were going off at all. So we sat down, grouped up and had a bit of chit chat, then went on our ways.

Why Run a Thief?

Well, I see that you’re on JQ right now. Do you run in EB? If so, you’ve probably run into my spry little Asuran BG thief. I think I remember who you are, but I don’t see a guild name on your signature, so I can’t be sure. Anywho, I’m going to assume it’s the ranger I ran into a bunch of times with the [BANK] tag.

I play a thief for three reasons.

  1. The mobility is awesome. After playing for the first 6 months as a ranger (right before they upped the signet run speed from 10%), I started my thief (Tired of OP) and fell in love with the mobility. I don’t zerg often, so being able to get away is paramount to me enjoying the game.

I want to make a difference to our side. So I kill yaks and flip JQ camps. Alot.

I love a challenge with poor odds. Because of #2, I’m usually solo, outnumbered, and in enemy territory. Surviving in that is thrilling. I try not to run away in a 1v1, but there’s an occasional warrior who just regen like mofos and I can’t poison them enough to make a dent. When I run away from you, it’s usually because it’s a 3 or 4 on 1 and I just can’t get behind those odds with the downed system in GW2.

I try not to play in a way that is super-annoying. I’m not permainvis. I don’t use black powder. I’m straight up d/d + SB. My intention is to be slippery. If I have frustrated you, I do apologize. Maybe we can try to have a chat and work out an even/odd day schedule where I won’t harass your camps.

If you’d like to go mano a mano, I’d love to work that out too. Just not 6 of you at once. Although I do feel like a tour guide sometimes, what with all the loops around Golanta and Rogues Quarry with a gaggle of JQ behind me….

End the discussion about cooldowns vs initiative costs. They are different systems. They have different drawbacks. On my warrior, I can use weapon skills 1-5, switch weapons and have 5 new available skills. On my thief, I can use only some of 1-5 skills, switch weapons and have only autoattack available.

That is the drawback of initiative. The plus side is skill reuse and no cool downs.

The way to balance it is by throttling initiative gain – and this was rebalanced last patch fairly extensively.

It does only take one hit to contest a keep. However, there is a 30 second delay between hitting the gate and swords appearing on the map. The waypoint immediately becomes unavailable though, and the 3 minute contested timer will appear for any friendlies in the keep.

This is coming from a “Let’s see how long I can kill every yak and keep every structure contested” thief

Can you stun break out of a moa form?
Can you teleport away with moa form?
Can you use your invulnerability skills in moa form?
Can you gain stability in moa form?
Can you run away in moa form?

If #1-3 would be possible, moa would be probably the most useless elite in the game
#4: nope, but it also doesnt remove the stability you already have

#5: Yes, you can.

Besides, if you are already fighting in a 1 vs 1, you might already have used stuff like stunbreaks, teleports, stability or invulnerability.

Moa is ment to shut down a target, so you shouldnt complain about moa shutting down a target.

Sooo…. Thief elite, basilisk poison, with a 2 second daze has to be nerfed, even though you can get out of it, but a 10 second daze is okay?

For the past 2 – 3 weeks – not sure if it was EoTM or Lion’s Arch patch, I have frequent skill lag like there used to be 6 months ago. And, as it’s followed up by skill haste, it’s nothing local, has to be Anet servers.

The number 5 skill, the one furthest to the right is your flee button when moa’d. Point yourself in the direction you want to go and hit it. You will haul butt in that direction and often escape.

Nope. It was nerfed down to a 3/ths of a second flee. It puts you just out of melee range.

Before it was a huge flee, 3 or 4 seconds, which was balanced.

Warriors won’t even feel the difference, but anet can now say “we listened and nerfed warriors!”

Frankly, it’s the only thing that insta-kills me. I’ve been run over by 40 man zergs and can survive it. Stun breakers, gap creators, etc, all work wonders. All of those are gone when Moa’d.

So yes, it’s a stupid skill and shouldn’t be used. But it can be one helluva troll-tool.

Thief here.

SR is only on my skill bar about 10% of the time – if I’m quite clearly trolling around a huge zerg, and then it only gets used in conjunction with shadowstep. Otherwise it’s a nice way to die away from prying eyes.

Yes it’s good – but it’s about 5th in a lineup that’s vying for 3 spots.

Especially for classes that rely on abilities for damage avoidance. A warrior being moa’d? Meh. They can probably wait it out. A thief or ele getting moa’d?

It should force (and allow) a “flee combat or die” scenario, but right now it’s way too harsh an ability, especially when it can easily be cast while the caster is stealthed.

Loki, no one is saying it’s never useful. It can be situationally useful, but it’s not a done deal – it’s not always useful, and it’s not something you can turn on or off like caltrops on dodge.

The traits that aren’t selectable are intended to be 100% positive things.

This isn’t. It should be a minor trait that can be selected or not, not a must-take for the whole tree.

It’s really a case of certain classes being strong or weak vs other specific classes.

I’ve played a ranger and a then a thief .. after I got tired of dying to “OP thieves”. So my thief is named Tired of OP = )

Probably 75% of all stomp interrupts are negated by stability. No one complains when a warrior or guardian pops stability and stomps through the ranger thunderclap, necro fear, guardian bubble crap, engineer blast, or warrior hammer.

The squishies – mesmer, ele, and thief – get an evasion based stomp interrupt. Mesmer invis/shadowstep, ele mist or vapor form, can’t remember which is which, and thief shadowsteps. Stability doesn’t help on these, and additionally a stealthed opponent has no benefit to stomping one of these classes.

So the real overpowered ability here is stability.
Thieves have 8 seconds of stability every 2 minutes – and that’s if you start and cancel daggerstorm. That’s it. So naturally, thieves get creative.
Our options are:
A) Blind
B) Shadowstep away/back
C) Stealth

A is extremely hard to time on some (guardian bubble) or easy (necro, warrior, ranger)
B is cheesetastic, and in my mind, is a horrible waste of a get out of jail free card
C is only a problem for timing on Necro/Guard/Ranger. Having no target, the abilities still do their job just fine. Warriors have a tougher time there – hammer is single target. And maybe that’s the thing to fix.

And Ele’s getting into portals is dumb.

Just dumb.

Moa is ridiculous in any scenario.

And to the “Oh, dodge it” crowd – in the past 3 days I’ve been moa’d 5 or 6 times. Only once was the mesmer actually visible. It should be half the duration and the #5 “flee” ability should be restored to its previous duration.

Yes – what feels like intermittent ping spikes – client loses all communication for a second, then everything catches up.

I had ping running in the background, and it didn’t record any packet loss, but something is definitely up.

Yeah, I was on FA. I was on SoR the entire league – I switched there the week before leagues started because a few remaining guildmates moved, and because blowouts aren’t fun.

Either way, being on BG or SoR, I just enjoy killing JQ either way. It’s a great feeling seeing them have 3 or 4 people walking yaks because that’s the only way they get any supply.

It had nothing to do with the coordinated 2v1 that was set up. I WAS on SoR, and after hearing it being discussed by commanders, I was very disgusted.

So I’m on BG now, so I’m still losing, but at least I’m losing while not playing dirty. SoR involved should be ashamed of themselves.

This could be terrific, but hopefully it doesn’t undermine the idea of belonging to a specific community. Server pride needs to have a corollary in this new system, as well as familiarity with teammates. Recognizing and loving / hating commanders, roamers, etc, is part of what makes it feel comfortable and familiar.

I think this is a very interesting idea in that it could work to hamstring an opponent who is trouncing the opponents. There are precious few mechanics that favor the underdog, and there should be more (low hanging fruit, COUGH outmanned)

Yeah, it’s not particularly the gear, but it exacerbates the problem. The numbers on the +/- condition food is just plain off when you compare it to all the other duration modifying food. It’s just a typo that never got fixed.

This is definitely an issue, and detracts from half the beauty of the game. The only time you get a good PoV is with vista animations, which makes me wonder if that was a bone thrown to the artwork fellows who weren’t having any of their work seen.

There are natural ebbs and flows of players in general, but the unnatural influx that BG had has screwed the balance. SoR is ebbing, so we’ve got a queue on maybe one map for about an hour on NA prime time and the rest of the time it’s outmanned on every map.

It’s nothing to get particularly upset about, though it may mean more of us on SoR jump ship. I came there from a wildly unbalanced pairing for a balanced tier. Since that balance is gone, I might just go home to Fort Aspenwood…. although if they take SoR spot, they’ll get hellafacesmashed, and I’ll be in the same position.

So it’s wait and see right now. Plus I’m getting tired of a specifically bossypants Choo commander. But I’d miss Trembles with Beer and the sexy scottish leader.

Why does players’ condition damage and duration enhancements affect siege? Most affected are arrow carts. Respecing one of my characters to condition duration without much effort or cost has the #3 ability (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fire_Barbed_Arrows) reading on the tooltip for 56,000 damage over 55 seconds.

Power doesn’t affect siege.
Crit damage doesn’t affect siege.
The collective world had a heart attack when Thieves and Warriors were using traits that affected siege =)

Heck, I haven’t tested it yet – does the warrior “Deep Cuts” trait affect siege? another +50% would be hilarious on top of the almost minute long bleeds I’ve already got.

So why are condition stats treated differently?

Yeah. It used to be longer (read: useful as an evade), but at a quarter second, you can’t time it well – the only way you get an evade out of it is to spam it when there’s lots of mobs on you.

Even non-D/P thieves will blind a warrior every time – most of us run with the +movement signet that has an active ability of blind. Since warriors have a guaranteed knockdown on downed, it’s second nature for me to assume I have to blind to get the stomp. Otherwise by the time I get the second stomp in they have Venged.

Must be nice to have downed abilities like that.
