[suggestion] A way to shake dungeon meta

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Lindbur is a god, that post is the best I’ve read in ages.

As for the OP, don’t people hate the “zerker-only” meta because it requires a specific build, with specific gear and possible a specific class. Your solution is to add more specific demands to a Dungeons?

Dungeons can be completed with any build, the problem is people want to complete them as quickly as possible, even those that don’t like playing zerk themselves tend to love others getting them through content quickly. If anything add a Hardmode option with a slightly better reward making it more attractive and challanging for the ‘elistist and wannabes’ whilst keeping the normal dungeons rewarding enough for more casual players. Meh what am I saying, nothing changes mindsets.

“Shiineeeyyyy”

PS: I do love Fyrebrand’s idea. I’d get a Sinister set along my zerk, possibly get non “leeching” Ranged weapons and respec more. As long as respec stays available. ^^

Fract. weapon droprate down?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Just a late thank you for making this. ^^

If you enjoy Fractals I’d highly recommend doing 50 and 40 daily, due to their overall higher chance and not too trouble-some Instability, especially if you pug (overall you expect people around that level to have a basic understanding.)

But if you dislike Fractals, just pick a different skin to aim for. 10-11% is still a small chance, with a chance for doubles / unwanted skin.

Love tanking, which setup do I pick?

Esmee.1067

My 2 cents:
Warrior: If your self-survivability and the ability to get your teammates out of downed state takes priority from the basic mmo-tank aspect. Easy class to play relatively efficiently in groupplay.
Guardian: If your main goal is preventing/mitigating damage your team (and thus you) take, which is compareable to the basic mmo-tank aswell. Difficult class to play if encounters are unknown to you and no teammates give you a heads-up about them. (Which as a Tank-player shouldn’t be something that scares you off :p)
Mesmer: Also helpful at mitigating damage for the team and have an easier time surviving (in melee) than most other classes due to a low-cooldown evade on sword, along with a block, their support options do require a bit more practice and are more limited (less Stability, no Aegis.) Rather annoying to level though, so I’d keep that as an alt-option personally.
Necromancer: Also rather high self-sustain, but lacks any form of teamsupport.

I’d stay away from Thief and Elementalist in PvE, they’re generally rather squishy, damage orientated classes, though they do each have ways of surviving (Thief from blinds, Elementalist from reasonable invul/evade options.) Not sure where to place Engineer/Ranger.

PS: If you enjoy PvP you could try out all classes with almost all their traits/gear/skills available to them. The rewards aren’t too shabby, few weeks of PvP and I got enough items to get 4 more alts to level 80. Shame I already got 17 level 80s. ^^" There’s a Practice Mode and Hotjoin option where people are overal more chilled towards unexperienced players (or should be atleast.)

Never getting a Precursor at all? ^^"

The only sad moments in gw2 for me are when groups kick players at the end of Dungeons / Fractals, even if that player was dragging the group down, I’d prefer if people sucked it up or kicked after the first fight. Always makes my heart sink a little.

Turning D.Tokens to gold still viable ?

in Players Helping Players

Esmee.1067

The Mystic Salvage Kit / Master’s Salvage Kit / Silverfed O’ Matic each have a 25% chance for a rare material (e.g. ecto) and an 80% chance to retrain the rune/sigil. Salvaging your Rares/Exotics with those should yield you plenty of gold still. I’d recommend either Master’s Salvage Kit or Mystic Salvage Kit over the Silverfed O’ Matic personally (not to be confused with Copperfed O’ Matic, that one is awesome.)

Only other option would be trying your luck in the Forge with Exotics Swords/Daggers from the Tokens, but that’s a big gamble.

I personally get 30 token rares with my CoF/CoE/HotW/Arah tokens, the rest I gamble or go for Insignias / Ecto depending on my mood. I don’t have any of the dungeon recipes, but if you do, those are worth checking out aswell. Used to be rather profitable.

It's All About Timing soloable?

in Living World

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

The first phase is the most vital one in my opinion. Make sure enemies do not enter the cap point. A nifty trick is to let the NPC finish the last one per wave off outside of the cappoint because the waves don’t seem to respawn until every last one is dead. You can also use consumeables to distract the enemies and kill them asap if you prefer a more aggressive way (e.g. Mortars, Seed Turrets.) Just don’t let them on the point to save time.

The Second Phase isn’t too special, bring a lot of AoE (Reflects can help) and dps things down quickly. Keep the Ghost buffed with Swiftness as much as possible.

The Last Phase just stealth / invul cap the Crystals and run them back asap. Be it through skills, traits or utilities. Killing will (most likely) cost too much time when you’re alone. Spykits / Feathers / Invul skills (or being a Thief) will be your best friend.

As always, zerk is the way to go. ^^"

I wouldn’t recommend solo’ing it unless you prefer getting all achievements solo because teaming up will get it done so much quicker it’s ridicilous.

Mawdrey?

I want to craft Mawdrey so I was going through this guide: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Fey_Zeal/Mawdrey_Guide but I have problem with special items for Tier 2.

Namely:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaos_Orb
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Ley_Line_Dust

As these are rewards for Living World chapters which are currently locked. For itemes in Tier 1 it is possible to buy them for Laurels in Dry Top oasis.

Is this intended? Or am I missing the vendor for these somewhere?

I’m 99% sure that to purchase them with Laurels you need to have completed the Living Story once, but check out the vendor yourself to be 100% sure.

If he doesn’t have them, you’ll have to purchase the story and play through it. Feel free to leave feedback to whether you could or could not buy the items from the vendor for future reference!

Ascended Gear

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Ascended Gear (trinkets especially) is heavily time-gated, so I’d recommend working on them simultaneously;
Amulet: Laurels from logging in (and for now the Wintersday Daily) nothing you can do to speed this up. Hint: Get the one with an Utility Infusion in case you ever want the 20% MF infusion, it’s the only Ascended piece with an Utility Infusion.
Rings: Fractal Daily Chests, which as the name implies can only be earned once a day (per 10 levels, 1-10, 11-20, etc.) but since 10+ requires AR, you’re likely only capable of doing 1-9 for now. If you’re lucky a ring drops with the desired stats, but realisticly you’ll need 20 dailies for both rings (10 Pristine Relics trade for 1 ring.) this amount can be reduced if there’s a Fractal in the Daily Achievements.
Accessories: Guild Missions (or Laurels + Ecto, but I highly recommend Guild Mission cost and time-wise) only give 6 commendations per week (2 for bounty/challange, 1 for rush/puzzle) meaning you’ll need 4 weeks for both Accessories. Hint: If you don’t have a guild that does Guild Missions, plenty of Guilds out there accept ‘guests’ to their missions, try a big community guild!

Armor/Weapons aren’t as heavily time-gated (most materials can only be made once per day, but can also be bought on the TP) but simply costs a lot of money. Things to keep in mind aswell are that besides a lot of gold you’ll need Dragonite Ore/Emphereal Fragments/Bloodstone Dust, though especially since Silverwaste got introduced this isn’t a huge issue anymore. I’d recommend Weapons before Armor due to the over-all damage increase. Most weapons are worth ~50-60g in Materials, some Karma and account-bound Materials. Light Armor can easily add up to ~300g/set.

Lastly the backpiece, there’re multiple ways to get the backpiece. If you plan on getting an infused backpiece I’d highly recommend Mawdrey. She’s the only backpiece that doesn’t require 250 ecto to infuse, making her one of the most cost-efficient infused backpieces. If you don’t plan on infusing the backpiece (only worth it if you need Agony Resistance) I’d go for any skin you like (e.g. Light of Dwanya) or a more cost-efficient, but time-heavy Fractal Capacitor.

On the bright side, the first toon is the hardest. Currently gearing up my boyfriend’s account for Fractals, it’s a slow progress with only 1-9 Fractals available, no Relics for +5 infusions, no Relics to infuse backpieces, no materials to infuse Rings etc.

Consistently Bad Teams?

in PvP

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Just went up vs the same organized team with 5 solo queueing people three times in a row. Most seemed extremely inexperienced (from double-capping, to rather horrid set-ups and overall inexperience with the maps and mechanics) I’m not very high-ranked, experienced or anything either, neither were the roles very balanced (4 rangers, 1 warrior, goodluck with that.) Enemy team; champion of their respective classes, dragon finishers everywhere and a neat set-up, seemed there was voice-communication aswell, but maybe they’re just good at watching the maps and reacting, knowing where portals were left and when they were cast.

I was starting to enjoy gw2 PvP, but casual play without an organized group seems to be a simply sign-up to getting farmed. Neither would I enjoy being the opponents, just farming an unorganized mess. Judging from map-chat they were enjoying themselves, so atleast that’s something, I on the other hand prefer losing a even match than facerolling bearbows all day long. Few more days like this and I guess it’s time for a new game, it’s a shame since I really enjoy the even matches, but sometimes I just go days without them, whether it’s wins or losses, uneven matches suck.

Potion of PvP Rewards

Esmee.1067

Hello,

yesterday my Potions of PvP Rewards which I’d been saving up since day 1 disappeared, I checked all my characters, they were no-where to be found. Then I read the game-updates on http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates and it explains why, I did indeed bring a character to PvP I hadn’t taken to PvP yet. Can I get my potions refunded somehow or did I loose them all to an unpredictable bug? I know it’s a small issue, but I really want the Wintersday Track before it disappears.

Yours sincerely,

What happened to the queue?

Esmee.1067

Since the leaderboard reset I’ve played a few matches matches and I can say, it sucked all the fun out of PvP for me. I get in teams that seem to be completely new to PvP, from standing next to the Skyhammer but not using it as if he’s defending a capture point to doublecapping or not capping at all, a whole team rushing Svanir, ignoring home and mid with 2 out of 4 dying to it aswell, etc. Mistakes every beginner can make and overall wouldn’t be a problem is it weren’t for our opponents; Guildteams that play like well-oiled machines, seem to have their build and rotations down well and simply snowball my team over the map within seconds of the match starting. How does this happen? Not once, not twice, but all my played matches today?

Before the reset I faced the typical 0-500 matches once a day, maybe twice. but most matches were relatively even unless I went up vs well-known teams such as The Civilized Gentlemen, those moments happen and that’s fine, but why is it happening all the time now? I’d really like to be able to continue PvP whilst queueing alone, so I can do it when I want, which is the whole reason I like gw2 so much.

Our bunkers normally don’t enter the match as their bunker character, and also experience disconnect. We normally take care to make sure if someone disconnects they atleast earn points before the match ends but could there be abandonment penalties for swapping or DCing?

Yes, disconnecting or changing professions will count as desertion, and give that player dishonor. They will also be scored on the ladder as if they had a full loss, meaning as if their team had scored 0 points.

So I just got into a team with 3 Engineers and 2 Mesmers vs Guardian, Necromancer, Thief, Elementalist and Engineer. So my choice is to be selfless and relog to a semi-bunker/full bunker (I chose Warrior, Sw/W shoutbuild due to getting Spirit Watch) to give us a chance, or selfish and just give up from the beginning, farm as many points as we still can?

Though I like the aspect of learning different builds so I can relog and be as useful for the team as I can be, I don’t mind if it’s impossible either, but then atleast don’t give me bullkitten teams like 3 Engineers and 2 Mesmers?

Spending 20-50 gold at a time or 500+ gold at a time doesn’t matter. The drop rate from the forge isn’t cumulative and each forge attempt is independent from the others.

Verificus is simply stating that with more attempts the chance of getting the desired result is bigger, which is true and completely logical. It’s like buying 100 tickets instead of 1, but also means the investment is bigger. So you’re both completely correct. Though I’m also a fan of more attempts at once, makes the RNG feel slightly less extreme.

Teleport dead players out of the Breach

in Living World

Esmee.1067

Or you could just rez them like you are supposed to…

If you’re full dead, it likely means you went down in a hard to revive place, otherwise people could have revived you whilst you were downed / you didn’t take a huge amount of damage whilst downed to die too quickly for anyone to get to you. Expecting people to risk their life and a considerable amount of time reviving you from full dead is simply rude when you can WP and run back in the same time or less whilst that person in actively working on completing the event.

Downed state is a completely different story ofcourse.

It’s common sense for every big event; Tequalt, Great Jungle Wurm, etc. Why do you think that is?

Ditto, it might also help people, like me, make a bit more sense of the leaderboards because right now I have no idea why someone I play with 24/7 is nearly 800 ranks lower than me. I have no idea why I’m on the rank I am.

I’d recommend at the end of the match though, just so people don’t get discouraged, though with dishonour in place I doubt that’d be too bad.

How to survive dungeon stacking?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

As Staff:
Make sure your DPS is as high as it can be, like Miku said; Eruption, Glyph of Storms (air) and Lava Font for an opener, gives yourself and the party 3 Might and some Fury, make sure you use Arcane Wave for another 3 Might and to proc Air VII if you have it. I’d cast that right before the boss reaches the stack, then Frost Bow → Deep Freeze → Ice Storm, even in pugs, half of the dungeon bosses don’t live far past a Deep Freeze, even if it does you still have a full Endurance bar waiting for you, with more Lava Fonts and Meteor Shower for big damage.

Morale of the story:
Deep Freeze the boss.

No point running cantrips to buy yourself 3 extra seconds to make a fight last 6 seconds longer…

I can confirm experiencing the same, certain mobs, including the TA archers, act on being targetted, so I’d avoid targetting them (or make sure you have a weapon/build not requiring targetting.) Whether it’s evading/moving about. It’s not gamebreaking, but it’s still always a bit annoying when people do target them. ^^ Just fight them on your own to see for yourself if you want prove.

I’d talk it over with your guildleader if it’s caused any drama though, seems like a misunderstanding to me…

Just started PvP, loving it, some thoughts...

Esmee.1067

All points I definitely agree with or would like to see.

I’ve been asked multiple times (in pm, by friends, saw it in mapchat) how people can change their gear, traits etc in PvP, at the least it should be heavily pointed out in a tutorial. (If it isn’t yet, but from my boyfriends account I recall being forced to learn how to cap, rez and finish only.) I can’t recall how I experienced it the very first time, but I more or less had real life friends guide me through my first week of the game, so I likely couldn’t relate anyway.

On the scoreboard you get points for everything; Killing an opponent on or off point, Capping/Defending/Assaulting/Neutralizing Capture Points and reviving teammates. Per map there’re a few extra’s like hitting enemy players with the Trebuchet, destroying/repairing the Trebuchet. Forest creatures killed, guild lords killed, Skyhammer hits, Ascended Spirits and succesfully channeling medications. These are a lot of different points to score the highest on, hence even if you score the highest in some category, you aren’t automatically the highest scorer.

Personally I don’t like to judge much by the scoreboard if you can help it. I’ve noticed a big difference between the roles and even class people have on the points they managed to get. Few examples are those who do the Skyhammer/Treb duties, both of these can turn a game around if there’s a lot of teamfighting going on, but it not always too favourable for their points. People who double-cap, reinforce 1 v 1s with multiple people or even when the opponent is already down and then tag him/finish him and move onto the point, forcing the 1 v 1’er to get off it get a lot more points than he/she who worked for them, but choses the team over his score. Bunkers in long teamfights can be essential, but they collect less points than say on Nifhel when I cap close or kill beast and then reinforce with my Necromancer, pop some wells and a Lichform to quickly kill loads, I get the same points on mid and more for beast and close, do I deserve more points? No, I didn’t hold of the enemies whilst my team could get much desired objectives. Was it the best thing to do? Yes, usually is.

So for these reasons seeing the scoreboard only for a small period of time, isn’t a big issue to me, but yes, it’s quick and little time to observe. I have played a few MMOs that allow you to stay on the scoreboard for 15m+ if you’d like to, but I guess do to the small scale arenas they just want to close the server-usage down straight away.

For the opt-out option, if you do it for one map, where do you stop? Plenty of people hate a variety of maps, though I am one of the Courtyard dislikers aswell, I know plenty of people who hate Skyhammer and I completely understand that aswell. Will you allow an opt-out option for both? And maybe then a group will pop-up hating Spirit Watch (this one hardly gets picked from what I’ve noticed) up to a point either everything has an opt-out option and you influence which map you get, or you only please a certain group. Though ye, I really bloody hate Courtyard. xD

Mesmers...

Esmee.1067

Can someone point out to me where Mesmers were apparently buffed alongside Rangers (insinuating this happened at the same time of the rapid-fire patch)? If there was a sudden change, I was not aware of it, and I play Mesmer essentially full-time.

They had minor changes that I doubt are significant in PvP, but I’m quite sure they’ll always be the class players will struggle with at first. Clones seemed so overwhelming to me the first weeks, until I learned some more animations and patterns.

Mesmers...

in PvP

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Most Rangers and Mesmers are very easy to counter if you know how to. My best recommendation will be to try them out for yourself, see how different classes counter you and what was essential to your wins and losses. Also accept that certain classes counter others relatively easy if you’re both on equal skill-level.

For both classes: Don’t Range them and figure out when to dodge (both Rapid Shot and Shatter are devastating if you let them hit you with it, hence good Rangers/Mesmer will immobilize before their burst, meaning you should avoid that aswell.) Utilize your cooldowns or your dodge. Both are really squishy, for Rangers make sure you get near them to force them into GS (careful for Maul, especially if they have a Sigil of Intelligence) where-as for Mesmer find and immobilize/burst the real one down. It might help to play Mesmer for a bit to get used to their escape-ability and see how others deal with it, aswell.

Very rarely I meet a Mesmer that bursts me down in the blink of an eye or a Ranger that immobilizes me continiously so I die to him, but I know no matter what class he/she would play, I’d lose just as badly since those players are just waaaaay better than me.

New tPvP system is crap

in PvP

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Having no issues with the matchmaking system, and the stats on arena net side states that more people are having close games than ever before which suggests better matchmaking.

You’re running into issues because your rating is low, possibly due to losing against bad teams consistently over and over. After 50 games or so your rating will adjust to where it is supposed to be at and you should be at a 50/50 win rate.

Not everyone can be a top player.

For me it went the other way around, at first I had loads of very close and fun matches (except in Courtyard, but… Courtyard) and then somehow the leaderboards decided I’m somewhere high on there (10 at the moment) which is just not true… I’m a relatively new PvP’er in this game, have less than 200 wins, I’m below average (obviously, my personal estimate) and never play in an (organized) team, just 1 friend. He’s not even on the leaderboard which is even odder…

Now if I queue alone, I get vs highly organized teams and even people who’s videos I watched to get some basic understanding, which often only the person going close gets even a single point. I guess I’ll just have to endure it for a few days until I finally drop to somewhere I do belong.

I also felt playing with different skills was a nice change of pace (even with 8 different classes I play often) but it got boring quickly, luckily there was little fighting.

But this time it is unlikely that the ordinary player will complete all story achievements. Only the “pro” players, the ones with days to practice, will successfully perform the final fight in challenging mode.
It is really easier to pay 10 gold and grind another 1000 bandit crests and get the trinket directly than to fruitlessly try this frustrating mission.

I’m certain once Dulfy has her guides up, people will do it rather easily since there is a system in his placement of the sand pools and the walls of sand (wind? thorns?) are ‘relatively’ easy.

I did all achievements (and thus also the full story) earlier tonight, but Verata’s Ring isn’t appearing in the buy options (the other 3 trinkets are) anyone know what else I might need to do? I still need loads of (rng’d) organs for both achievements and the other 2 leggings, so I’m not in a hurry, but I’d love it for the stats asap. Everyone I asked has got the ring on their screen, can’t figure out what they did do and I didn’t.

Edit: I just did the story again on a different character and she has all 4 trinkets available and 4 boxes instead of 3, yayayayayayay. I can get it now!!! /cheer

avoiding sandstorm in last fight

in Living World

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Do this when trying an achievement:
Carefully analyze the boss’s mechanics and think a way out of it!

When you kill one earth elemental a sandstorm spawns on the spame spot as the elemetal died. So don’t melee it and you won’t have a problem with it.
The wind is dodgeable with “dodge” 3 and 6.

“Don’t melee it”
90% of Caithe’s skills are mele, how do you expect us to not melee it?

It’s just the last hit on the Elemental you shouldn’t melee if you can’t walk out of it quick enough. E.g. finishing it of with #2 to leap away or run away with utility #1, Condition Damage (Utility slot #2) or semi-ranged (#4 and #5) are all viable options. Or teaming up and letting a non-Caithe teammate do the last hit.

Question: Anyone know how people lose the achievement before we even get to the boss (after the Centaur defence bit?) As a group we did it over and over and someone keeps losing it before we get to him, but I can’t see how.

I haven’t encountered the bug after playing the instance quite a few time (we’re bad at being stealthy :p) but there’s a new build incoming, surely it has the fix. Don’t think we have to establish bugs are bad… Though it’s not permanently bugged and the OP does seem to mention both bugs and difficulty.

Aerlen, I’m out of game for the evening now (always am on Tuesday evenings) but if you’re around during the day tomorrow I’d be glad to help out. I want to take alts through anyway! I can play Caithe and do the inquest KO’s. I have no idea if the mobs will pay attention to a second party member, though, so we’d have to find that out.

I should be available by noon Eastern. I just have to go by 5 pm Eastern to get ready for evening tabletop. Let me know if that works for you.

To save you some time; secondary members can get detected but they can also knock Asura out and channel panels. They keep their own skills when stealth is broken much like the other instances, so for the aggressive achievements or a simple run-through I’d put the lowest (AoE) dps as the opener or who-ever feels the least comfortable playing Caithe.

Props to you for offering help!

PS: Secondary members also can’t pick up items or use items such as Frostbow, small unimportant detail, but still.

I personally also think this is a wonderful instance; it’s easy enough to go through the instance just for the story. Be it stealthy or aggressive, it gets done. Yet leaves a wonderful challenge for the achievements. But I can see how it frustrates people.

If you plan on multiple toons and always want to look semi-decent you could consider investing in an outfit. They go over your armor, but sadly can’t be mixed (headpieces can be hidden though.) As a bonus each outfit you purchase, each of your toons can access for free, can also provide a nice change once in a while. They do cost 700 gems / each how-ever and not all of them are available throughout the year.

Otherwise you’d have to pay a transmutation charge each time you change your gear, which is relatively often whilst leveling. At level 80 you’ll likely spend a fair amount of time in Exotics before you move on to Ascended, at which I’d say it becomes worth spending the charges. Charges can be earned by map completion (either a transmutation charge or a black lion key) and PvP-Reward Tracks, neither are quite farmable (you could create a new character and explorer city maps.) and a while set already requires 6. You can also purchase them in the Gem Store (which is sadly down for me atm, but I think it’s ~600 gems for 25 or 150 gems for 1.) It’s always up to you how much looking good is worth to you.

Class good at Greatswords??

I use it all the time in pve. One of the benefits of mesmer is that all the weapons are effective. I personally enjoy greatsword.

This goes for every single class in the game if you don’t give a kitten about being as effective as you can be, so how is this “one of the benefits of mesmer” exactly?

Silverwastes "Legendary" Bosses

in Living World

Esmee.1067

Bosses requiring luck to show up. Bad design. Especially with putting titles requiring fighting them.

I think its great design. Makes the title take a bit of effort at least. Not just another show up and reap the rewards thing.

I know a person who did it exactly like that (managed to cap all legendaries within 10 minutes of logging to the map, with no effort put into it whatsoever, just as a sideeffect of chest farming). That’s the downside of RNG – it doesn’t require any effort. Just luck.

You can apply the same logic to precursors. The fact that only some people are that lucky makes it valuable.

I wouldn’t cry ‘bad design’ straight away, like Malediktus says, the RNG makes it valuable (or desirable in case of the bosses.) Whether most MMO’ers admit it or not, they like to be special, so they want things that not everyone can get, but when they can’t get it easily, they complain. When it’s RNG they cry unfair, when it’s too difficult they cry it’s inaccessible for X-group (casuals, PvE’ers, PvP’ers, WvW’ers etc.)

Luckily you can greatly increase your chances regarding the Legendary Bosses:
- Find a decent map, join community organized Silverwastes if possible, Guild-Organized or just try and taxi or organize a ~10 man group yourself at a Fort with a Legendary you still need.
- Go 1 Legendary Boss at a time, if someone calls out one on the map and you could (easily) make it, ofcourse, go for it, but all in all, try to stick on the spawn of the one you chose to do right now. Keep your groupfinder open, hop to a different map if they call out the Legendary on who’s spawn-spot you’re camping (loading screen + walking generally means you’ll be too late, potentially risking a good map, hence I recommend this only for the boss you happen to be near.)
- Preferably mix it with tagging what you can near your chosen destination / Fang / Tendon farming, I wouldn’t be surprised if for the next Living Story it’s the same bosses (again) at the breach dropping another Organ and Boots/Helm/Leggings/Top for Bandit Crests.
- Start at Indigo, Indigo is most central, giving you the best change to run to a different boss if it’s called out, high Mobility is greatly recommended.

Took me ~4h to get all of them except (ironically) the one that spawns at Indigo. Would I rather have it done in 10 minutes like some people? Sure, though it’s my own fault for not playing straight after release when maps are everywhere, increasing my chances even more. In the meanwhile I got 4/4 Tendons and 2/4 Fangs, enough crests to get to 3/3 Shoulders and 2/3 Gloves, this was less than a week ago, when the hype died down already.

On that note, does the Indigo Legendary Boss spawn north or south of the keep?

It’s so basic you likely thought of it:
Try re-assigning Strafe by clicking the mouse-buttons during assigning instead of what that button is suppose to be assigned to.
Test the drivers in another game, assuming you re-installed them recently.

I don’t owe the mouse myself, so this is as much as I can suggest. I hope someone (or you!) find a sollution and share it here.

Goodluck!

If your contract disappeared: Report it as a bug.
If letters that should be allowed but aren’t: Report it as a bug.

If you didn’t check if the name is available (by adding it to your friendlist) or against their terms of agreement (by making a new character with the name or ask a friend to do it if you lack the empty slot) that’s on you and I’d see it as lesson learned.

Class good at Greatswords??

Dont use greatsword on mesmer.

?

I’m going to assume his comment is ment for PvE where a Greatsword is indeed a very poor choice for Mesmer in most situations:

1. Any utility it offers for PvE is either unneeded (like Cripple, Vul, Good Shatter-burst set-up capability and Range) or better done by a different weaponset (Boon Removal, Mob-positioning) in the general PvE-Envoirment.
2. It’s number 1 attack is inferior to Sword 1 (even if you’re at max Range, the loss is obviously even more considerable in close-range, sitting at max Range however makes you miss out on party-boons such as Fury/Might) Neither does it cleave, causing even more loss vs a group of enemies when it comes down to sustained damage. (The Greatsword Phantasm does cleave, compensating a little bit.)
3. It’s one of the weakest phantasms, which in return are a huge part of a Mesmers damage potentional in PvE, /Pistol /Sword are better choices for pure damage on your average target and /Focus in unmatched in utility due to it’s anti-projectile (reflect if specced) on the Phantasm.
4. It doesn’t work well with itself in PvE, it’s phantasm needs to survive it’s whole attack-chain to get it’s damage off (assuming it’d be able to hit all 4 hits in the first place,) where-as the weapon itself would be good for fights you’d ‘need’ to Range, for the Bounce on #2 it’s beneficial to be in melee-Range to inflict Vul and receive Might. So even at Range I’d recommend Sc/P to not lose all your phantasm damage, assuming your spec is build for that, which I surely hope so in the average PvE environment.

I hope this clarifies his statement, all it has going for it really is that a purple lazerbeam is a fashionable statement?

It’s still a great weapon in sPvP/Roaming where it does come to it’s full potential with a pushback, big damage on a boon-removal that can be timed with a good shatter (buffed up by a #2 skill bouncing might on you if you’re near enough, recommended for a Shatter) and an easy-to-get-off auto-attack that hits considerably on targets trying to be anywhere except in your face (likely meaning they have no idea how to counter you.)

To the OP; Mesmer, Warrior, Guardian, Ranger can all use Greatsword in their weaponslots, for both Warrior and Guardian it’s also part of their meta-builds for PvE. For sPvP most Warriors won’t use Greatswords (it’s a bit difficult to get it’s damage off on players) whilst Mesmer and Ranger see use of it in most builds, Guardian in any damage-orientated build, though Bunkers tend to be more common, which tend to prefer Staff + Mace/Focus (though it varies.))

Solo PVP 1> thief equals insta loss

in PvP

Esmee.1067

There will always be team compositions in random that are less ideal than others; 2 Mesmers, 2 Thieves, 2 Bunker-Guardians etc. etc. or simply full teams of squishy dps (just had a S/F Ele, 2x Thief, 1x Mesmer and me) or full Bunker/Support without enough decap potentional. Though in SoloQ bad players lose the game more than set-ups in my experience. Like thieves at ~450 points realizing they really can’t beat that person on far.

All you can do is make sure you cover some opposites and relog when it benefits your team. Though I think this isn’t possible anymore after the next update which is aimed at fixing the problem completely.

Elementalist, Guardian, or Thief?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Like Saint said, whatever someone told you about Elementalist is rubbish, they’re a wonderful class. Almost every optimized team in PvE has 2 Elementalist due to their Might/Fury stacking potentional and top-tier dps. In PvP their traits off-set their squishiness, where-as their might-stacking off-sets the dps-loss from doing so. Solid class. (So are Thief and Guardian and I can’t say either of those ever bored me either. ^^)

I’ve got a fair share of experience on all 3 of these classes (likely the closest to ‘mains’ I’ll ever get) and all 3 are excellent choices. There’s no perfect choice, they’re all unique.

I’d base your choice on what kind of role you wish to fill, for PvE the choice being between Defensive Support (Guardian) Offensive Support (Elementalist) or Stealth (Thief) since that’s more or less how the game works, every class deals good dps in PvE (some a bit better than others) it’s about what else you can offer to the group.

I personally only enjoy Thief in (semi-)organized groups because a lot of the things you can offer become negligible if the group doesn’t understand them (stealth-skips) except for the blind on trash mobs. That being said, I’ve made some friends over the months and I play Thief nearly 50% of the time. Elementalist and Guardian I both easily bring to PuGs and they always add plenty to a group in their own way.

In sPvP they all shine in their own aspects aswell; High-burst, High-mobility roamer (Thief) semi-Bunky dps (Elementalist) and Teamsupport Bunker (Guardian)

Thief is more or less a one-trick pony with a highly mobile, high damage build, allowing the player to quickly cap/decap points and go for map-essentials such as the Svanir Chieftain, or enemy Trebuchet. I recommend trying it out, Thief will either be a big hit or miss for most people.

Elementalist tend to fill the role of a bunky-dps with decent mobility, though they can opt for a squishy high-dps teamfight build or full bunker support-build if desired. In the meta-builds (D/D mainly) their traits and utilities are almost completely defensive to compensate for their squishiness, due to this their damage is highly defendant on their might-stacking (Firefield -> Blast, Blast, Blast) how-ever their survivability is rather easy.

Lastly most Guardians play a bunker-team support build. They allows them to be extremely survivable, stand on the point in teamfights and ressurect allies / stomp enemy players without much risk. One could say they’re essential to any team, at the least they’re incredibly helpful. This comes at a cost of quite a bit of mobility.

If you have difficulties picking I’d value your PvE desires over your sPvP desires. In sPvP a lvl 2 is equal to a lvl 80, having access to the sames runes, sigils, traits, weapons, where-as in PvE a lvl 80 has a clear advantage over a lower level.

(PS: Since there’re endless options with classes in gw2 I based what I said off the meta-builds, such as found on: http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki, not some yolo set-ups.)

Warrior, Elementalist or Necro

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

The difference between an bad Warrior, an average Warrior and a Warrior that goes the extra mile is very noticeable. An average Warrior doesn’t run dual banner if he’s the solo Warrior, camps Greatsword, interrupts his auto-attack, but he stays alive, deals some damage, no issue. However a Warrior going the extra mile will drop his Banners in the team’s firefields (and watches banner up-time,) he’ll run dual banner/phalanx strength when it benefits the team (and the other way around.) Will adjust his last utility between FGJ/On My Mark/Signet of Accuracy accordingly and in rarer situations Kick/Throw Ballas/Fear Me!. Won’t interrupt their 100b or auto-attack (especially Axe) and use /Mace /Warhorn accordingly. Equips /Warhorn on skips to give his team swiftness instead of Back-Aggro (like the average Warrior) and to blast Smokefields where needed. Stay above 90% HP aswell if you’re a (non-PS) meta Warrior. Just because it’s nearly impossible to die as a Warrior doesn’t mean you should slack, this also means if your team wipes but the boss has ~15% hp left you should know when to dodge to finish him off. How-ever if a Warrior screws up, he won’t die, he won’t wipe a team, unlike quite a few other classes, so I understand why people think it’s such an easy class, how-ever it’s just as easy as you make it for yourself. (If I’m wrong, why is it still so hard to find a half-decent Warrior?!)

Elementalist also has loads of room for improvement to be the best you can be, but starts a bit more difficult since a downed/dead Elementalist is useless, or worse. Though no rotation is easier than Staff, except Necromancer, to compensate a little for beginners, also giving some breath room by being efficient in 300-600 range in open fights for a majority of the fight. (Not recommended to level on.)

Necro on the other hand is kinda done after learning how to maintain your Scholar Buff / survive and yielding an optimal dps-rotation (which is really rather easy.) Your team support is very little (you have some blinds in a well and some boon removal, both have long cooldowns and are very situational, even in those situations other classes do it better and most likely cover it) and your survivability isn’t much worse than a Warrior thanks to a very fair hp-pool and Death Shroud in ‘oh miauw’ moments.

So if you want to have a class to keep improving on and become a major asset to your team and yourself go with Warrior or Elementalist. “Just” surviving isn’t all there is to playing a class, though coming from a mainly Thief/Elementalist, Warrior does feel godlike in that aspect.

PS: you said Dungeons/Fractals in the post, so I assumed PvE-focus, not WvW.

Taking every Temple event you can do can be helpful, sadly they aren’t on timers anymore so can be difficult to follow. Big Worldbosses like Tequalt/Wurm can bring in some decent coin. Silverwaste/Dry Top (especially during sandstorms) can be rather effective aswell if organized. All of these are often organized by the community, in EU servers that’s gw2community, being on their TS is helpful, for NA I don’t know.

None of these options hold a candle to the big dig in SW or speedrunning dungeons how-ever.

Fully solo there’re multiple places you can farm t6 (Southsun and Frostgorge are the most common) or worthwhile materials (linen) how-ever if someone else is doing it, it will be less effective. Also less profitable than dungeons unless you’re very lucky. (Which can be said for any farm though.)
