I purposely didn’t log in to Guild Wars 2 for a week for 2 reasons:

- 1 to prevent burn out.
- 2 to see how I would view the game after a week of playing other mmo’s.

The result is well read on:

- In that week I played aion, STO, Rift, Neverwinter, Tera, Eden Eternal, Vindictus, Aura kingdom and so on you get the picture.

What I found is that:
- They all have awkward camera’s that are not smooth, at all !
- character responsiveness is awful.
- reaction times are awful.
- Boring combat.
- quality of life is none existent, when compared to GW.
- messy, badly coded interfaces, and ugly as hell.
- GCD, this didn’t use to bother me at all now I can’t stand it.
- need target to cast anything, annoying much.
- No global Trading post, yeah I missed it.
- art style, I’m gonna censor myself here.

Conclusion

A lot of people say Guild Wars 2 lacks this and that and whatever.
But I say to you, all those other games are missing a hell of a lot more
that we as GW2 players take for granted everyday.
I believe we have been spoiled so much by all the nice good features of GW2 that now we expect an even higher level of quality and polish

The fact of the matter is give credit where credit is due

Guild Wars 2 is an amazing game with many small things in it we take for granted and because they seem so small you might not give it a second thought and think all games out there have those features, when the reality is, I have yet to see any other game that has as much polish, attention to detail and quality of life features as GW2 has, not even wow comes close to this level of refinement, yes I dropped the elephant in the room !

Many consider wow the pinnacle of polish, well I’m here to tell you that is no longer true and hasn’t been since the day GW2 launched.

I’m not saying GW2 is perfect, cough RNG cough Time gating !
but when put into perspective against all the crap that is swirling the ether,
GW2 is a 24k diamond in the rough

Look at the pictures, left is a sketch found in Scarlet’s Dry Top lab and right is a depiction of the realm of torment from guild wars 1.

The vines we see in Dry Top are also something that happens when the veil between the 2 worlds weakens.

You better start writing some more dark themed stories for the people that played GW1 and are no longer puberty teens anymore, you know, you remember them, the ones that actually started this whole GW universe revolution, remember how cruel and dark themed GW1 was ? we want more of that at least story wise !

Account wide dyes

Before launch dyes were account wide, but were changed to a per character basis for launch.

I think it’s time this was reversed to account wide as it was intended, this would mean you only need to get the dyes once for your account.

everything else is account wide or on the way to becoming account wide, some of them I could care less about but this was originally the way dyes worked.

you gave us time gates and stuff that really kitten us up the least you can do to compensate is make dyes account wide again !

At this point I don’t mind ascended gear at all, what I mind is the moronic restrictions they place on getting them.

I say,
add hard mode to dungeons, and make higher than 30+ fractals drop ascended items other than rings instead of limiting acquisition to daily laurel crap and guild missions which you only earn 2-3 marks per week.

and stop introducing a new currency every time you introduce a piece of ascended armor for the love of all that is holy !!

How is getting lucky with RNG translate into legendary ?

  • It reminds me of when defiance was introduced, it was a fast response band aid system and we got stuck with it.

I understand wanting to prevent people from abusing the underwater weapons to keep the stacks while switching to other weapons, from that perspective I saw the change coming a mile away.

But…..

The way the change was implemented is wrong.
It doesn’t take into consideration who simply uses weapon swaps as intended and who is trying to exploit the system.

It should’ve been put into effect in such a way that it detects weapon replacement instead of arbitrarily removing my legitimately earned stacks

This is especially frustrating in WvW, for example dreaming bay incursions, where most of the time it is unavoidable to go into it via water.

losing your stacks puts you in a disadvantageous position against a group that has full stacks.

bottom line: The way the system was introduced is unilateral, impartial and punishes the innocent. It needs to be adapted so it doesn’t impact those of us that use the system as intended.

Efficiency VS the so fabled elitism

This just hit me the other day,

CoF p1 farming group composition is not at all about being elite or anything like that it’s about efficiency plain and simple.

If you’re farming this run for money, what you really care about is efficiency and time spent doing it. The faster you can finish it, the faster you can repeat it and as such the more money you will earn in a shorter period of time.

Once you know how to do the fastest run why in the world would you take anything but
but the most efficient party composition?

anything other than the efficient party composition slows you down, which in an efficiency oriented setup means you’re bleeding money.

Lots of people view / complain about this as if it’s just about elitism, but the reality of the matter is, it has nothing to do with elitism at all it’s all about efficiency.

I’m a casual player myself and didn’t have the full zerker gear setup ready at 1st.
the 1st time I got kicked out of a farming group I asked the reason why, and they explained this to me as I am doing now about efficiency, that’s when I went to get my zerker gear ready so I wouldn’t be inefficient and didn’t get kicked from farming parties, instead of complaining about it on the forums

And, please for the love of God don’t pretend like it’s the parties fault or the game’s fault.
and don’t act as if they are obligated to take you even if you do not fit their needs and all you will do is drag them down with you.

If this was a trinity based game and you applied as a tank but didn’t have the gear for it do you honestly believe you will get picked for that group ?

Hell no you won’t !

Why should it be any different here ?

bottom line is this

1 – you wanna farm and have fun and don’t care about efficiency, than no problem look for like minded people and go do your inefficient runs and have fun we won’t stop you or bother you at all, but don’t complain because you can’t get in on the efficient farming parties, why should the others who are efficient have to carry you around dragging your feet taking them down with you?

2 – you wanna be efficient, go get your full beserker gear ready and welcome to the party !

Just so you don’t get the wrong idea or label me something I’m not

I also run CoF for fun with my guildmates, I take any and all classes, beginner or experienced it doesn’t really matter and have a blast teaching them about the dungeon, it is all about fun, relaxing and enjoying the game.

Rift has bad camera angles and a bad interface? At least it has a highly adjustable interface, what can you do with gw2, oh thats right nothing, i hate neverwinter because you feel pressured to buy zen, but saying that games art work and combat system is inferior is a joke, its ok 2014 is here, this place will be a ghost town buy summer, gw2 had 0 real competition last year, this year will be different.

I dont dislike this game, but acting like its the best thing since sliced bread is pretty stupid.

- I also thought Rift had good camera, until I played GW2 and it showed me a real smooth camera.

- Rift interface is nice and all but all the add ons and all the crap on the screen makes it a play the interface not the game itself thing, plus combat is boring as hell.

- GW2 doesn’t need add ons or any of that crap, it’s a play the game not the interface feeling which I love.

- I didn’t say much about art, you are putting words there that do not belong, artistic taste is different for everyone but if neverwinter is your idea of good art style I say No comment

- no competition last year, hmm that might be true still doesn’t take away from the fact it is a great game dispite it’s issues.

- empty by summer, hahahahah I guess everybody can dream

- if you have not noticed, the single most telling thing about gw2 success is how now all upcoming companies are trying to copy some parts of it to integrate into their own creations instead of trying to continue to copy wow.

- Acting like it’s the best thing since sliced bread is also something you thought of by yourself mate.
no where does it say that at all and I did say it has it’s issues but….

the new infusion progresion system is very good but lacks one thing.
- The ability to keep your progress instead of flushing it down the toilet.

What do I mean ?

- say I craft a +6 infusion and place it in my ring, than I start crafting a new +6
- In the current system my 1st +6 is useless and is flushed down the toilet, I need to craft 2x +6 to get to +7 completely disregarding the time and money placed on crafting the one in my ring.

what it should be like

craft the 2nd +6 and combine it with my 1st crafted +6 that is now in my ring, to get to +7, this way my earlier progress is NOT simply flushed down the toilet.

- traditional RAIDS = fail
- extreme support for addons = fail ( certain add ons become a must, to the point you cannot play w/o them)
- P2P = fail. ( in this day and age, yes it is fail)

And with fail I mean it will stay a niche game at best, mainly for the hardcore crowd which is like 10% of the mmorpg community.

- For the particle effects issue, there is actually something that does wonders atm.
SweetFX, has reduced my particle effects problem to the point I can actually see the Boss telegraphs and all, and I’m a melee warrior so.

  • Doors should only be damaged by rams and ballista.
  • Walls should only be damaged by cats and trebs.
  • 25% price reduction on siege equipment.
  • if for some technical reason structures cannot be made immune to player damage, reduce damage taken from players to 1 dmg.

so easy it’s kind of a facepalm it is not already as such right now in WvW.

I loved the idea of WvW leagues and even if they would’ve said the end reward is ONLY the finisher I’d still be in there killing invaders left and right, specially JQ and SoR invaders !

but this chest is a slap to the face and a kick in the pants in terms of time investment vs reward !

The reality is a whole lot more than 10%.

If you only think of trait provided critical damage than yeah sure it would look as if it is a mere 10% drop, and there lies the big LIE.

You see, if we use what they have said is the conversion rate 15:1 ratio than the following items have all seen a major nerf in critical damage.

Trinkets

  • Ascended amulet: was: 9% crit damage is now: 85 ferocity = 5.6% crit damage.
  • Ascended rings: was 8% rit damage, is now: 68 ferocity = 4.5% crit damage.
  • Ascended earrings: was 7% crit damage, is now 60 ferocity = 4% crit damage.
  • Banner of discipline: was 15% crit damage, is now 170 ferocity = 11.3% crit damage.

Weapons:

  • Ascended greatsword was 10% crit damage, is now 134 ferocity = 8.9% crit damage.
    (not gonna list all weapons, but all of them have seen a nerf)

Food:

  • Bowl of butternut squash was 8% crit damage, is now 60 ferocity = 4% crit damage.
    (not gonna list all food)

By now you can see a developing pattern,
I did not go over every single item and just from this sample you can see that it is by far a lot more than just a 10% drop.

10% nerf to crit ? in what universe is that true ?

People need to be aware they have been lied to in a big way, and that is the core of my issue with this change.

It is not the fact that you nerfed critical damage that sets me off and make me mad, it is the fact you lied to us in our faces about the percentages !

Things I wonder about:

Am I missing something ?
Am I not seeing the big picture ?
Why have they lied ?
did they really think no one knows basic math to not figure this out ?

Colin likes to compare gw2 to a television show where every week there’s something new happening, and for the most part that is true and exciting.

the problem lies in the fact that even television shows, give you a way to go back and experience it from the beginning for those that came in after the launch of the series.

gw2 doesn’t have this capability as of yet even though the lore allows for it the scrying pool anyone ?

I know they are planning to implement a way to do this to some extent in fractals, which means the content will not be the same as it was when it was on live servers for everyone to experience.

let me tell yah, anet if I wasn’t already playing when the living world concept came into fruition, I would NOT have picked up the game at all, the reason being very simple, I would not like that the content was gone and simply because I wasn’t ther for those 2 weeks I don’t get to know what happened before I started playing, and there is no way for me to go back and play that content.

for this reason I think a lot of people don’t pick up the game, this is a major flaw that hinders gw2’s progress and growth

in television terms, this would be like watching the matrix reloaded without watching the original matrix, it wouldn’t make any sense to me at all, sure I can enjoy it but the enjoyment is half baked and obscured by the fact I didn’t know anything about Neo’s struggle and realization of how powerful he really is.

It’d be like starting DS9 right in the middle of the dominion invasion, sure it is exciting and can be followed but you know nothing of the prophets or the wormhole and most of the lore wouldn’t make any sense at all to yah.

at least in movies or television I can go back and watch the series and or movies in proper sequence and get the full story and lore background

TLDR anet needs to implement a way for example the scrying pool from gw1 to allow people to fully experience past living world content, not just a piece of it in fractals.

I love Guild Wars 2 but, since everything in this kitten game is now being stream lined to be minable / doable by a single character per day, I say unlock all way points for all my alts account wide when you reach 100% world completion on your main leave the hearts and vistas on a per character basis.

If my alts do NOT have the right to the same rewards per day as my main than the point of it being a completely new and entirely different character is NULLIFIED

A.net wants to unify PVP and PVE which is fine by me it’s about time it happened, I was tired of looking like a fresh player everytime I go to the mists.

Equality:
A.net wants the whole population of gw2 to run story mode dungeons all over again to unlock the new reward tiers. but they forget PVP players will have access to tons of skins PVE players will not have from the get go after patch day on the 15th

Fairness:
how about giving credit where credit is due ?
PVP players will start with a ton of skins we PVE players will have to work towards,
while we PVE players will NOT have to run story mode dungeons again to unlock reward tracks
That is fairness

Requiring PVE players and specially those with dungeon master titles to run these story mode dungeons again is insulting to say the least, it also totally invalidates our progress

instead of adding value to the title what you’re doing degrades it to the point I ask myself,
Why even bother acquiring the title at all ?

as always disappointment is the name of the game !
the obelisk skill point doesn’t reset !
if all I needed was a place of power there’s one in garrison and it only costs me 2 silver !

I thought for once you actually had a great nice thing to add to the home instance but as always it just falls short.

gathering nodes, once per account instead of once per character !
at least it can be mined every day !

Now this obelisk, great idea but falls short, the skill point doesn’t reset !

I love this game, which is why I write on the forums if I didn’t care I wouldn’t bother to post at all !

- buy/sell history graphs with prices and dates.
- outbid notification mails.
- sell posting fee 50% return when removing item from sell listings.

Guild Wars 2 is actually several completely separate games together.

1 PVE guild wars 2 is one game, for those that want to do PVE only stuff.
2 WvW PVP is the end game PVP for PVE players and again is completely separate from PVE world.
3 SPVP guild wars 2 is completely separate and focused on competition , has nothing to do with PVE at all.

you can play any one game mode w/o ever touching the others.
if you like PVE go do pve only stuff.
if you like PVP go do WvW with your PVE toon.
if you like SPVP go do competitive PVP.

see, your point is totally nullified by how anet designed the game, and the fact that ESL just picked gw2 for tournament play only re-enforces this premise.

1750/1900 hours on my warrior, have 6 other 80’s but my warrior love is still there.
playing the other classes is fun and all, and I do so when they are better suited for whatever niche task I need them for but… playing them in any other situation except for the niche situations instead of my warrior feels sub optimal and slow going.

I have not been playing WvW for long even though I’ve played the game since BWE1
but……

This crap that is going on right now is annoying as hell and something needs to be done about it by the dev’s.

what I’m talking about is the follwing:

With bloodlust, every stomp grants 1 world point per stack of bloodlust, the problem right now is people are using alt+f4 to quit the game in the middle of the stomp and in so doing negate the stomp and deny / rob you of your points !

There is such a simple solution to this, I cannot for the love of me figure out how the dev’s missed it.

add a logout timer to WvW only, say 30 seconds timer from the moment you press logout, alt+f4 or quit the game by any other means while in WvW

this would ensure that if you lost the fight and you’re getting stomped even if you quit the game I get my points because your toon is still there for me to stomp for the next 30 seconds

why 30 seconds and not 15 you say ?
simple, some people will go to any length to try and circumvent the systems in place, some will start the logout process before going down in a fight they know they will lose, if this is done and it’s only 15 seconds by the time he goes down the timer will be at 2 seconds a standard stomp takes 3 seconds, you see my point ? this logout preloading would be a lot harder to do if the timer is 30 seconds.

Progressive RNG can be infinitely better than a flat 0.00000000000001% drop rate.
here’s why,

What is progressive RNG?
- Progressive RNG is in it’s simplest terms an RNG system in which your chances to get a specific item you’re after increases by every fail attempt made at that specific item.

Why use progressive RNG?
- Very simple, it allows someone to acquire an RNG based item even if he has the worst luck ever, by simply putting in the effort.
- Think about it as working towards rather than a gambler’s once in a million lucky strike.

Let’s use an example.

- You’re trying to get OP sword of awesomeness
which drops from a specific Boss monster and has a drop rate of 1%
- The progressive RNG variable for this drop is say +0.3% per failed attempt.

The main benefit of progressive RNG is that it is not just based on luck, it also rewards your hard work by adding your progression towards that item to the equation.

Now that the negative faction has had their say, let me give you the other side of the story OP.

Particularly for a person who doesn’t like traditional MMOs (like me), this game is a godsend.

Is it perfect? Not by a long shot. There are plenty of flaws in the game. And with all those flaws, even after a year, it’s still more fun for me than any other MMO I’ve played.

Don’t let the naysayers get you down.

yeah, I’m pretty much in the same boat as Vayne here, same thoughts and all.
don’t listen to naysayers, most of them just want gw2 turned into woW 2.0 come to think of it why are they still here if they don’t like the game right ?

they are still here because no matter what negative kitten comes out of their mouths the truth is they love the game just as much as we positive sayers do.

for example, I hate WoW with a passion like you wouldn’t believe
but I don’t lie to myself saying it’s a dead game or that it is not successful or that it is not fun at all (well it’s not fun for me of course but it is clearly a lot of fun for others)

is gw2 perfect no, but than again nothing man made is perfect is it ?

it has it’s flaws, the point is that even with it’s flaws ( which can and will be fixed hopefully) it is by far and wide the best mmorpg in the market PERIOD

Trinity lovers have tried for a year on many different sites and many different avenues to hamper gw2’s progress and growth, trying to make it look bad and trying to make it look as if it’s a dead game.

Nothing could be farther from the truth

Gw2 is a very successful game, the fact other upcoming games are copying many of it’s core systems (once thought of as ridiculous systems that no developer would ever try) is a testament to arenanet’s success.

in the end the only opinion about the game that really matters to you is your own opinion, so play it and make up your own mind, I’m pretty sure you will come to the conclusion that it is a pretty great game with it’s faults and all

oh come on the ones affected should be the ones waiting.
the rest of us that did get the chest should not have to be punished.
rewards should still be available on the 3rd, those affected can claim theirs when you fix the chest problem.

this type of lfg system is the best i’ve seen as far a lfg systems go.
putting me in a queue deprives me of joining with people i want to join and instead joins me with every tom bob and mary hell no !!!! big NO to queue’s and automatic dungeon teleporting !

I think Arnath is still right though,
the ratio of spells you can cast while moving in those games is severely limited.
for every 18 spells that root you, you might have 2 that allow you to move while casting.

That makes it feel pretty much 100% of the time as if you’re rooted.

I tried aion 4.0 new class gunslinger, it was fun till the rooting annoyed me to much to bother playing.

I couldn’t wait for my experiment to expire so I could come back running to GW2 faster than you can say RUN !

it’s the things you take for granted that pull you back to this game.
- deposit collectables.
- account wide wallet.
- freedom.
- the music.
- the environment.
- the combat.
- the feeling that when you press for something to happen it happens instantly not 2 seconds later.
- sound and action synchronization, when you hit something in gw2 it all sounds, feels and looks the way it’s suppose to, the swing, the hit sound and the feedback from the mob that got hit.
- I hate it when in some games you see the swing, hear the sound 2 seconds after, the mob gets hit but doesn’t give feedback till much later and sometimes the wrong feedback at that.
- and so much more it’s overwhelming trying to think about it all and typing it.

I’m just wondering if anyone working at Anet has considered creating an open PVP server, or will it stay more the role playing style that it is now? I must admit that open world PVP is probably the number one thing I miss from other MMORPGs.

Zerker is still the best option. Now its just even more important everyone is full zerk

This is so true, because zerker damage was so high you could forgive 1 person not being pure zerker and still do very very well.

with this change I’m afraid we will see more gear and weapon checks than ever before.

cut the tail, lower it, make it curve lower, make capes specially designed with a curvature around the stupid tail, so many options

The only race keeping us from capes is the stinking charr, which I totally hate btw !
this hate comes from gw1 can’t help it i fought them for ages there !

So I see no reason to not have 2 styles of capes.
1 for the other 4 races
1 for the stinking charr

there problem solved as well !

- they should make a japanese style dogeza video of the whole studio apologizing for the dropping the ball so hard !

WvW leagues is DEAD !
you don’t even get to keep the finisher you earned till league season 2 starts !
at least that would’ve sparked some reason to keep winning leagues !

But they are incredibly dumb and dull-witted when alone, which means having Skritt who venture out and explore the world on their own (Putting them into the current Hero situation) will result in a lot of very stupid Skritt running about.

They aren’t any harder than any other run of the mill push 1 then afk champ (inb4 ohhh but you gotta stand in a colored circle!) They shouldn’t be giving out so many gear boxes. It’s just not appropriate risk/reward.

I agree %100 with you.

The new mechanics change does make it more challenging and to top it off it gives 9 less deluxe boxes now, basically more difficulty for less reward !

I will not use the stupid forge for precursors. I’ve watched my brother and a couple of others throw hundreds of gold worth of exotics for jack kitten.

RNG is RNG.

I’ve seen people burn through 800g of exos and end up with trash. I’ve seen someone drop 200g and get 3 precursors.

I’ve been playing for a year, and I’ve never gotten a thing. One of our new members got a Dusk drop from a guild mission, a week after turning 80.

RNG is RNG.

I personally think Precursors should have an (extremely lengthy and difficult) alternate method of being acquired besides insert 4 exos into mystic toilet, flush, repeat.

this is what kittens me off
- people that have played the game for a year and see no precursor no matter what they do ! skill and game loyalty goes unrewarded
- some new player that just bought the game and just barely got 1 toon to 80 does a guild mission and gets a precursor ! unskilled new player rewarded with one of the most coveted items in the kitten game for doing absolutely nothing at all
