I really think there should be mounts. Some people say that because we have asura gates and waypoints it makes no sense to have them. But really its not like your mount will get u half way across the map in seconds like the waypoints and asura gates. Itll simply increase your speed." if you wanna increase your speed then use a buff". Its not all about speed, it makes role playing ( for those who like it) more fun.
This can also be optional. For example it can be sold for karma, those who wish can purchase and those who dont can keep traveling by waypoints.
Im sure im not the only one who wants mounts and these can even be as simple as horses. No armored lions with flaming paws and stuff like that.
I really hope mounts can be introduce because they would make some peoples gameplay more enjoyable.

if you’re going to make the simply for RP argument then then make them cosmetic mounts and nothing more . its not about the speed right? You would still have the screen clutter issue though . imagine the tallest possible Norn on a tall mount in front of an Asura you wouldn’t be able to see a thing as that Asura

I think fully exploring zones and personal story quests give more experience than the zerg, due to diminishing returns.

edit: Oh, and I second the recommendation for cooking. It’s the most flexible crafting skill.

The Queensdale zerg is good for XP because all the champs bar spider are events and as you level up the eventXP goes up not down so you not only get XP for the kill but for the event as well . DR only effects drops .

So... How about those craftable precursors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Adine.2184

Been waiting on a precursor drop for a few months now. That’s all I need for my legendary, you see. Tonight I broke 300g and decided to throw some rares and exotics into the forge, all of the same type obviously, to try and get my precursor.

I’m at 3 gold now and have nothing to show for it. This is great game design and loads of fun losing everything you’ve earned over several months with nothing to show for it.

So now I’m hearing that precursor crafting will NOT be out this year as originally intended? That’s so good to hear – I’m super excited.

When will this be a thing? Because I’m tired of being a precursor away from my legendary and having to rely on luck and RNG to get it rather than actual play time or skill to get it.

2741 hours 22 minutes played. No precursor drop.

3rd Heavy Armor Class: The Dervish

in Suggestions

Posted by: Adine.2184

Adine.2184

Just no to this.

Finally forget this, GW2 will and should never have them back, at least in that silly GW1 style.
Its a bad class concept, that fits also not to all playable races and thats one of the main reasons, why they aren’t in GW2.

You would have to make a complete redesign around them together with an other name to implement some key mechanics that made the GW1 version of the class different, to make a class concept like that fit to the game.

You did nothing special here, your just one of those people, who really believes, they can just put everythign that the GW1 dervish had to GW2 , add some new weapons to them and mix it with specific Ritalist Skills to bring them back to GW2 too and et voila, there is it, the 0815 GW2 Dervish idea, that 1000s of other people have already posted too…

For the sake of ending the permanent 3rd heavy class discussion, id even rather see my Mystic Concept in the game as a 3rd heavy class, before the game receives such a boring GW1 copy n paste version that absolutely doesn’t fit into the game, only because of some GW1 fanbois/girls wanting to have badly their stupid wannabe cool muahah look at me, im the grim reaper-scythes back only …
In that case i’ve some news for you – go play a necromancer and get a Final Rest !!

The games lore of GW2 in regard of the priory of durmand tells us even, that there is such a profession called the Mystic, so why not make something completely new out of that lore scrap, that fits to the game, instead of putting some old coffee from GW1 into the game, that won’t taste good and won’t be good for the game at all.

PS: for those that are interested and I’m too lazy to bump that old thread up ^^
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/A-unique-Derv-Redesign-possible-The-Mystic/first#post2646977

You have to give them credit for at least fleshing out the idea instead of just saying “I want a Dervish” I dont agree with the idea but at least they fleshed it out

OP was the first person to derail the thread by mentioning making money. Now for some constructive discussion, the resources to make such armor on anets end probably wouldn’t be worth it as they said they don’t make many new armors because of how many different variations and how long it takes to make them. Something that is so prestigious that only about 1% of the players will have should have to do with skill instead of buying gems or endless farming

You wouldnt need so many variants with Cultural though since you’re only making it for one race .

I think it would be great if we would get new cultural armor sets (t4 and t5). T3 is simply too cheap and almost everyone is running around with it.
I suggest 750g for a set of T4 and 2000g for a set of T5. It would be a great gold sink. Its a bit silly that the most expensive armor costs 119g for 6 pieces, but the most expensive weapons (one item) cost upto several thousand gold.

at most it shout be 350 and 600 if you’re going to jump it that high .

Quite the subjective question . Personally Im gearing up my ranger in knights armor/trinkets and zerker weapons . Its really up to you though . Zerker makes you really squishy where as the knights will at least add some toughness .

Take a look through the Ranger forums for builds or even build sites and see if theres anything there you like as well . You never know what you may come across .

Female vs. Male Characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Adine.2184

Adine.2184

I’m a male. The reason most off my characters are female is that I spent most time looking at the back. And personally I prefer looking at a womans back.

Bottom line is that most female players I know prefer playing female characters. for male players bout 50% prefers playing a female character (and indeed not to impersonate a woman, I seldom do that but cause they prefer the looks). the other 50% prefers a male character.

This means there are more female characters in game then male.

Just because the people around you think that way doesn’t mean the whole community thinks the same.

No but it does seem to be the general rule . Guys tend to play either where as women tend to just play girls with the exception of roleplayers . Personally I’ll roll a D4 if im not sure what want to make

I have one male character- a Charr. I do not like the male frame on Norns- it’s too bulky and unrealistic.

Giant cat-man with horns is fine but a norn is unrealistic? O_o

It’s fine for a fantasy game. Unrealistic may have been a poor word choice, though. I just mean male norns look like they’re on steriods, and the proportions feel off to me. Nice catch, though.

Levels segregate the game world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Adine.2184

Levels segregate the game world.

People cant enjoy the full of the game world without leveling first.

if players take their time, they miss out on all the cool things happening all over the place.

So no point not rushing to max level. but that leads to burnout since the skill/trait system doesnt reward well for leveling between 1-30, 30-40, 40-60, 60-80.

you know you can get to lvl 80 in ONE day through crafting right? costs a bit of gold, but saves tons of time

This is a bad argument both from an economic perspective and from a class experience perspective .

Not everyone is going to have the money to do it which throws it out the window right there and you dont learn your class at all by doing it . Since you never played your class you dont know its weapons what you like about the class or even if you like the class so you could have spend all that money for nothing .That’s not even taking into account the lack of exploration .

The OP is right about 1 thing and that’s burn out . I know when I’m leveling an alt i usually burn out on leveling it around levels 55-60 before i have to go back to something else for a while . That’s something that’s just not fixable at this point either

If it wasnt for queensdale being a newbie zone I really wouldnt have a problem with it that much but what ends up happening is newbies join the zerg and dont learn their class properly . What this ends up doing is crating a class of players that have to relearn their class when they get to later levels or may even say screw it and quit .

Guild Wars 1 was a great game, a game that ANet should be looking back on and thinking, “What did we do right?”

Now, let me say : I really love GW2. Also, I don’t want GW2 to be GW1. I want it to be a spiritual successor, but one that’s very different. So far they’re doing an alright job, I don’t have too much to complain about.

With that in mind, let’s discuss how Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 1 compare around the mark of their first anniversary.

Guild Wars 2 additions, first year -

Fractals were a big addition, one of the biggest in the game, in my opinion. Numerous, repeatable dungeons, with interesting/lasting rewards.

The daily/monthly system gave people a chore, which is nice. Laurels also came along.

Ascended items. I think it was smart to add them later rather than at the launch. People would had full sets in such a tiny amount of time, and then complain there’s no endgame. It’s been smooth additions, nothing I can complain about.

WvW rankings/matchup/Season 1. Pretty good overall. I’m glad there’s a decent amount of balancing done around the WvW scene, and I’m glad WvW maps are still full to the brim on many servers. WvW rankings/skills was another good addition.

Living Story. We’ve seen numerous dungeons come and go, unique events with unique rewards. Essentially, a reason to check in at least every 2 weeks to keep your character decked out with all of the limited time items.

Skins. No one can complain about aesthetics, we have piles of new options added every week.

Balance. A few big balance patches that have addressed clear issues in the GW2 community. Buffs where they’ve been needed, too.

The karka/southsun shore. A big map addition.

Obviously this isn’t everything, but this is some big ones.

Now, those are respectable additions, and they keep coming, but I want to compare it to the big release shortly after Guild Wars 1 first anniversary, which was an expansion, Factions.

Factions added -

An entirely new story. Probably about as much “Living Story” content as has been released in Guild Wars 2.

Alliances. Kurzick/Luxon, which allowed for players to accumulate a new type of currency and spend it. This also brought the “ownership” of certain areas of the maps, as well as battles with the opposing Alliance. Similar to some additions we’ve seen in GW2 (new currency, new way to accumulate it, though in GW2 it hasn’t been very story inspired).

Two new ways to play PvE. Challenge Missions/Competitive Missions.

Most importantly, two new classes, and 25-30+ new skills for all of the existing classes.
I think this is clearly, clearly the area where GW2 is falling behind. You could argue one way or the other regarding most of the updates to GW1 (including Factions) vs GW2 in year 1, except on this point.

The addition of Factions completely flipped the meta on it’s head. It made everyone excited to dive into new builds, new options, come back to the game to try and find your niche in PvP again, or build a new type of dungeon running PvE group.

GW2 has had no gameplay additions on a character/combat level. You’re playing with the exact same skills you’ve played with since Day 1. Maybe, just maybe, they’ve removed a skill and replaced it with another, or removed a trait/combined it and added a new one, but essentially it’s the same.

If the meta changes, or your character changes, it’s generally because of meta+balance, not because of new options.

Guild Wars 2 is on a collision course with stagnation. One year of the exact same characters with no new options isn’t crazy, but it’s worse than what ANet has given us before.

I still enjoy playing, but every day I’m wishing more and more I could unlock some new weapon skills, an elite skill that’s actually interesting, or a bunch of new traits. It’s starting to get painful.

I think ANet desperately, desperately, needs to buckle down, get their heads out of the “black lion ticket skins” and “meta achievement for another 2 weeks” department, and head towards the “GW 2.0” department. A patch with new weapon options/new skills/new traits would surge the games population and create a fresh sense of enjoyment, which GW2 is starting to lack.

tl;dr : GW2 hasn’t had a single new addition at the actual level of how your character can play, ever. GW1 added 2 new class options (which, with dual classes, affects every other class), as well as 30+ new skills to EACH class, at the first anniversary.

When talking about the Factions skills you have to remember that a lot of them were the exact same skill as their prophesies counterpart . Yes factions added alot as a Standspansion ( as i like to call it ) but GW2 has done quite a bit of updates too . Look at the recent Kessex overhaul or southsun , The Tequatl overhaul is something i expect more of and the Aether path as well. That’s not even taking into account fractals or Ascended gear
