Why did you stop WvWing?

TheLastNobody.8319

I am probably gonna stop trying to WvW very soon, least till the new borderlands come out.

ZvZ never really appealed to me much, even as a necromancer. I know I’d be wanted for my wells but honestly, it’s just so boring running with a Zerg.

Roaming I am not having much fun, as 99% of it is just thieves who’re are looking for easy kills, and they all have the same exact build, weapon and play style. Dagger/pistol with shortbow, hide in shadows, shadowstep, shadow refuge, and infiltrator’s signet. The fight is usually decided by if I can CC them long enough so they can’t run away. If I cant, they just reset and come back with full initiative.

I don’t find any point in upgrading anything because I know the enemy night zerg is just going to come through and take everything after I spend the time and effort to upgrade it.

There Arent really any true rewards for defending, as compared to attacking. Just time, energy and expense. And the bonuses you get from WvW in PvE are negligible at best.

We have so much AoE even as base necro, and thieves are still squishy as heck, with the increased damage we’re getting, plus whatever other changes we are going to get between now and then, we should be fine.

Plus I know engi has a Similar trait and it has an ICD attached to it, so if this gets like a 5 second IcD I’m not really worried.

TheLastNobody.8319

As someone who’s just made a revenant and is learning to play it, I have to ask….. can you shed some light on what exactly you don’t like about it? You don’t offer any details in your post.

Sword AA got nerfed hard, supposedly the power got moved to the 2 and 3 skills but they bug out so much it won’t matter. The facet of light got a cast time meaning you can’t use it when CC’d now, despite the obvious animations and icon, shield 5 healing was nerfed, the teait that granted stab after dodge was given a 5 second ICD, when really it was the GM trait in Herald that gave an extra stack of stab when you got stab that needed the ICD.

In addition, thief and necro were buffed, necro Moreso and as a necro main I can say we didn’t need THaT MUcH boon corrupt. Since rev has next to no Condi clear and relies on resistance for fighting condies he’ll be eaten alive by necromancer. And with thief damage buffs he won’t be able to trade with a thief much anymore. Finally ventari and Jalis, the two legends who need buffs to be usable, received none, which sucks because ventari is just a couple small buffs away from being a good legend (needs his salvation line cleaned up) and Jalis had no stunbreaker unless you burn 50 energy for a 1.25 second cast time for Rite of the Great Dwarf. And again with us necros getting so much boon corruption, a Hearld rev is just a ticking time bomb for us.

But I am disappointed with the mesmer scepter changes.

“Additionally, we’ll be improving upon the scepter, which will be receiving updates through skills, functionality, and traits.”

I believe they changed one trait related to the scepter.

This is something I hate about their patch notes previews. They say they’re going to do these things, but we know from their history it’s about maybe a 50/50 shot, and worse, it leaves us wondering wtf they could be talking about. Just go down the list and tell us the dang notes, we don’t need banter, we don’t need overly long detailed explanations of WHY you’re doing this that and the other, we need/want the patch notes. You can take questions and do banter towards the dang end.

Stealth Haters Read

in Thief

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

TheLastNobody.8319

I was going to type up a big long post on why I hate the thief’s on demand access to stealth and class design in general,…then I thought what’s the point?

Simple fact, thieves are a profession that have been unfortunately designed around the way stealth works in this game. Heck, they have an entire trait line devoted to the dang mechanic. Sure mesmer’s do too, engie’s have a bit but I think it can be said that thieves are the undisputed kings of stealth in GW2. BECAUSE OF THAT they are designed to be squishy, not have that much condition cleanse, and be mobile as hell (mobile meaning able to get in and out of a fight quickly, not dodging everything left and right.) Sure you can make a thief that uses evasion more than stealth, but that requires so much more effort and if you slip up once it can lead to disaster.

Plus the main thing I think people hate about thieves (myself included) is how in WvW they just appear out of nowhere and burst you down before you even know what happened, then when you activate your defenses, they stealth and run away, wait to regain whatever initiative they had to use, then come back in because they know your stuff is on cooldown and now can kill you much easier. PvP this isn’t such a big problem because it’s Conquest, requiring your team to capture and hold points, so the thief has to get close, as well as hold their ground, something the class is not really designed to do, plus stealth doesn’t contribute to capturing a point.

So yeah, my point, is they nerf stealth, the thief would be ruined because it is one of the class’s primary survival mechanics. Even if they buffed a dancing build or pistol build, I still don’t see any thieves using anything else other than the popular D/P because of it’s utility and damage. My advice for all stealth haters, just get used to it and learn to deal with it, it’s probably not going to go away.

I love Reaper so much, ran a dungeon last night, AC, up to my neck in gravelings, last alive in my group, only went down when I got CC’d by an elite. Long as I was AA in RS I was just not giving a crap and my Lifeforce was barely going down thanks to the amount of enemies and shambling horrid I had.

Reaper is finally everything I wanted, it’s not boring like I find the warrior. I feel like an actual monster and a threat. now if base necro can et the tweaks and fixes it needs, we’ll e in business.

Is it safe to make a necromancer?

in Necromancer

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

TheLastNobody.8319

There really isn’t near as much anti-necro sentiment as people would have you believe, necros do FINE in dungeons, me and my bud regularly duo with no problems, I draw all the aggro while he goes to town with his hundred blades on warrior. The only time I need to switch out is when we’re doing a boss that has a sort of time limit, like the last boss in the inquest path," for Arah, and as for Lupi, I’ve always had a hard time with him on my necro because of his projectile attack, but then my friend just grabs his guardian and we cheese it.

The worst thing we have for us right now is the fact we have no group utility, Ele had ice bow which is just broken, and can pre-stack 25 might, thief and Mesmer have stealth, so your party can just skip 90% of the mobs in the dungeon, as well as some bosses. Warriors have phalanx strength, and that with the GS trait and strength runes lets them just output ridiculous amounts of might for a party, guardians have AoE stability and cleansing, and lots of boons, engis can really fill any role the party needs, and rangers are sorta with us on the low list.

And reaper won’t fix these problems, these are foundational problems, the devs sorta took the whole, selfish class design concept too far and ended up hindering us as well. We don’t have that many blast finishers, nor do we have any projectile destruction/reflection, which is a bit weird for a zone control Profession.

But, we do have a lot of weakness ouput, which I’m just finally figuring out is great for bosses and multi hit enemies, and we are rather naturally Tanky with Deathshroud, and with the spite tree, we can stack might like a crazy person, and reaper will do that even better, while providing better sustain and damage output. AND we have been gettin A LoT of attention lately from Mr. Robert Gee, who’s been working hard to fix our concerns and bring our needs to the attention of the balance team. Just look out the Reaper change list in comparison to the other BWE event threads, we’re getting a ton of buffs and fixes, and he even mentions scepter and axe buffs for the next BALANCE patch, and minions are FInALLY useful now.

So to answer your question…yeah make a necro, we’re going through a big time of change now, and who knows where we’ll be by the end of it.

Does anyone complaining about the damage even play a necro? Have you all been brainwashed into thinking if you are anything but useless you are op? If we end up being the best damages in a team fight is that SO wrong that we are the best at something? Do you hate the idea of being wanted in speed clears for you decent damage numbers?

Totally agree! My gosh, I should set up a psychic hotline. I perfectly predicted this response. Too bad they don’t listen and want to fool themselves into thinking that a Necromancer doing just as good damage as thief is somehow inacceptable, unlike thief.

Seriously guys, being good…. IS GOOD. Stop complaining about something good. It’s sad that this is what happens when you keep a class below average on several (not all) aspects for too long: players begin to be scared of actually doing bigger numbers.

Heck, even doing more damage than thief can be good as long as it isn’t by much. The problem only surges when there is too much a significt gap and it cheapens team fights too much. None of those conditions are happening, so we are still okay.

Indeed and unlike thieves and mesmers, the damage we put out will be avoidable, you can see it coming and react accordingly.

I saw the test of the new interface today and it looks solid to me. (I also happen to think it’s very attractive, but maybe that’s just me. )

The interface and Custom option move into testing now, and the text is already headed to Localization.

The dev team is keenly aware that there are Halloween items available only during a specific period (through November 4) and therefore they intend to do their darnedest to offer the new options in the next few days but certainly in advance of November 4th if humanly possible.

Now see that, THAT is a good response, none of this “soon” or “couple of weeks.” that let’s us know you guys are actually doing something and how seriously you take this. If there is one thing, especially gamers hate (least I think so) is vagueness. If you give us a date or at least a time frame, we know when to expect it. Then if something bad happens just say, something like, “Sorry guys, something unexpected happen, have to push the release back a bit.” I understand that you can’t give us too much info on things, you’re a game dev, you need to keep some things secretive, but this response was excellent. applause

Far as attractiveness goes, for something like this, long as it is useable i think people will be happy. If it was a skin or something I’d understand, but even if this custom gem amount interface is just a white box with some text I think people will be happy.

No, just no. Far as I can tell Colin was part of the problem anyway. My sympathy for ANET as a whole has run out though, as it’s clear they never had or planned a clear direction after HoT, jumping from PvP, to PvE, to WvW hype over the last few months. I loved HoT when it released, but now I hardly even play because there is hardly anyone on those maps. The balance was still in bad shape before the elite specs, and now it’s even worse in PvP. WvW….great ideas, horrible execution, and again, they left core system problems unaddressed.

I’ll say this for Mike, least he had the balls to come out and tell us they are scrapping legendaries rather than just say soon or try and spin it into something positive. No hope is better than false hope.

Blighter's Boon, The hero we needed.

in Necromancer

Posted by: TheLastNobody.8319

TheLastNobody.8319

I think one of the biggest problems with LF gain is that they treat it like it’s heals, or at least that’s the way it comes across. I honestly think all skills should have a bit of LF generation, with some skills providing an increased amount. Then make it so LF no longer passively degenerates while in DS, and give us unique 6-0 utilities that instead drain LF for benefits. Like 6 cause your DS to defen but in exchange you refill your health pool, and then an elite that gets rid of all your LF for one big attack. 7-8 provide something that benefits both power and Condi. Like with what reaper does.

TheLastNobody.8319

So yeah, bummed about blighter’s boon being nerfed, complained a bit then this hit me.

Blighter’s Boon: Whenever you apply a condition, you gain life force, in shroud, you Gain health.

It’s still selfish, the name still fits, rewards us for being aggressive, scales in team fights. All of which fit the reaper and necro theme. And would benefit both Condi and Power builds, and still has an opportunity cost, as you’re giving up Chill Damage and Reduced cooldowns. Course would need some scaling back, but it could just be based on when you apply a condition, not by the amount you apply.

I.e. You apply 3 stacks of vul, you get 1 percent life force, but if you apply 3 stacks of vul to 5 enemies, you get 5% life force. Get what I’m saying?

There’s a way to give suggestions, ideas, and comments. Other threads did this already with much better formatted and well thought out posts. And the proposed changes here prove the other threads have worked. These large, multi-quotes replies, with sarcastic comments & personal rants injected into them… they don’t help and are likely skipped by the devs.

Agreed, and all it does is drown out and submerge the actually good and needed feedback, making it harder to get the dev’s what they need to hear. And then you have people who don’t understand the Profession design at all and think we should have great mobility.

At the same time one shouldn’t be too praiseworthy, but that’s another discussion. Bottom line is Robert did listen to our feedback, and is trying to push these and other changes through to get us where we’re supposed to be, and the fact he’s even telling us these potential changes is a huge step forward compared to us having to wait and hope each patch.

Can’t comment on the numbers, but will say since we loose acess to all our 6-0 skills, having high damage SHOULD be a-ok. After all, melee range carries more risks, and we don’t have much lockdown or chase potential while in reaper shroud, plus the fact we have to charge it using a limited set of skills. It NEEDS to just exude power because if a person gets out of 600 range, we won’t be able to catch them in reaper’s shroud and will need to drop out to use a pull or boost our speed.

No offense to ANet, but they aren’t known for being good players. I’ve seen their PvP streams more than enough to know I wouldn’t trust them when it comes to high level gameplay. Necromancer would need some insane buffs to be worth bringing over Ele.

I can’t be the only one thinking ele is be too potent basically everything is compared to ele every class but necro and ranger have a specific strength to offer like stealth, support, reflects etc. I don’t trust their skills but it’s better than nothing seeing them believing(for now) that necro will be on par with the rest.

I do question what’s the dps of bosses if necro survives it… It would have to be multiple small to medium attacks or else it won’t be a challenge.

Agree with Sagat, I hate that every class is nowadays pretty much compared to an elementalist interns of what they can bring. It feels like the question nowadays is, “what does your class bring that we should bring it over another ele?” rather than "what unique abilities does your class bring that supports the group?

I hope those Ele nerfs dethrone the enemy, no doesn’t make them unplayable, just pulls them down from their seat of power, and hopefully some of these upcoming buffs for us will bring us up to par. >_<

The Necro legitimately has no valuable group utility.
The Necro legitimately has sub par DPS.
The Reaper legitimately was severely undertuned and no one knows if the stated changes will be enough.

How can a class stay that bad for 3 years.

I havn’t even see cashgrab korean F2P developers do something that lazy.

Anet are very, VERY, stubborn in their design philosophy. That plus, Necros in GW1 were apparently ridiculously great (think elementalist) and in the beta, we were very hard to kill with our DS. They’re legitemently afraid of overtuning us with every change that it wasn’t until the spec patch did the finally let life siphons work in DS, because they thought it’d give us too much sustain and make us unkillable.

I keep saying this, they are treating our DS like a second healthbar like it’s a boss in final fantasy or something, but what DS should be is our other healthbar, letting us swap out one while the other refills, and allowing our offense to be our defense, and reaper is finally going to reward us for going into the thick of battle, least that’s the way it is looking.

There is one big positive though with waiting for HoT and the elite specialization a and that is that they’re taking a good hard look at all the professions, and right now we’ve been having great communication with Mr. Robert and he’s working to help bring us up to par. A lot of thing s are going to change between now and when HoT comes out, and even more once HoT gets here. Should be interesting to say the least, specially with the impending downfall of Ele.

If they made it so that when you bought an outfit, you also got the armor skin (NO TO A PRICE HIKE). I would be far happier with outfits.

I know they say with outfits they’re easier to make because they don’t need to worry about clipping issues near as bad, but I feel it should be up to the player on weather something clipping is a major issue for them or not, and for a lot of things it’s mainly just one or two items that clip.

Eh, I’d prefer legendary pocket raptors myself. Each the size of zhaitan at least.

What helmet is that?

It’s the gasmask helm from living world season one. Got it from the laurel vendor, they sell it for around…i think it’s 15 laurels and some gold?

is it still in game…I missed season one?

Yep yep, like I said, got it from the laurel vendor in divinity’s reach. Though any laurel vendor should do. I like it, you can change the color of the visor, metal and the mesh? on it.

Ok, trying to get The Predator, and can’t really decide if I want to continue, or just say screw it and get some other items i’ve been wanting (deathly bull’s mantle for my necro, p/s condition build for my engie for WvW, reach 500 for ascended crafting etc. etc.) Right now i’m sitting on about half the gold I need to buy the precursor for it, along with a lot of t6 mats and ectos, and of course the 77 mystic clovers. And I have gift of mastery as well, so I still need the gift of the predator, and of course the precursor, The Hunter. As far as money goes, I haven’t really tied up much of anything yet, most of my mat’s i’ve gotten from salvaging and turning t5 into t6, as well as what I got from doing the clover recipes.

So this brings me to my problem, I can’t decide if The Predator would be worth it for me. I currently use the Phoenix rifle and aesthetically, I love the look. The gatling-like barrel makes me think that this gun could actually fire like a blunderbuss, but still be able to function like a rifle when it needs too. I like the glow, and it matches my color scheme, as well as I believe, my look, it’s also got some sentimentality behind it, but i won’t get into that.

However, I know the Predator can be considered sort of a bragging rights weapon, something that people WILL notice you having because of the glow and sound effect…personally that doesn’t really matter to me that much, as I see a good bit of Predators in WvW and just general roaming, but not that many phoenix rifles. Also, it looks like an engineeer weapon, but doesn’t look like it would perform like one, again it’s a rifle, not a blunderbuss or something like the Phoenix Rifle.

I guess by reading my own typed out post I’m sorta convincing myself to just stop with The Predator and craft an ascended rifle, but now it’s become a problem of that I’ve come this far in crafting it, it’ll feel like I’m just giving up…oi I hate the way my head works, feels like I got 3 voices arguing in my head. -_- Any help in putting this beast to rest would be appreciated. Sorry for bothering ya all.

HoT releases on October 23

Can a moderator confirm this information?

The tweet is very odd for several reasons:

It doesn’t show up on the @guildwars2 timeline, and it says it was posted at 8am, which it wasn’t, as it appeared less than an hour ago.

I’m suspicious for other reasons. For example, we haven’t even tested druid or gotten any info on that class, or the number of maps, or . . . well, you get the idea. Let’s not even talk about the amount of content again or what this hints.

Regardless, hope it’s not a buggy mess, but yes. Please confirm if possible.

My thought process – YAY RELEASE DATE! ….Druid ;_; are you gunna be okay with this, Druid? :C

My guess is that they’ll have at least one more BWE for Druid and engine, then one big event for all the specialization a before launch to iron out changes, and we’ll see more changes afterwards after HoT drops too.

i kinda feel the nerfs to our chill application, and chill itself are sorta moot now. I feel that GS REALLY needs a big increase in damage, and before people say “but then it’d replace dagger as our power weapon!”, dagger only has the AA, the two is a heal and the three is something you’ll only ever get off against someone not paying attention. Dagger also has much more LF generation, and can be mixed and matched with one of our other offhand weapons, like warhorn. So yes, GS needs to outclass dagger in Damage, not LF generation, unless under specific circumstances when you hit a group of enemies with 3.

RS is just perfect, no complaints, RS1 could hit a BIIIIITTTT harder but other than that, i love it.

Shouts, i am with Bhawb’s opinion, i think they have their uses, but need a cast time and cooldown reduction. And rise needs to ACTUALLY do something.

Other than that, i think we just need some projectile destruction and we’ll have FINALLY be in a spot to truly be feared. And some reliable stability outside of RS.

Traitwise, chilling victory needs to have the ICD removed. Same with chilling darkness. The Shout and GS traits will only get stronger IF their respective skills get stronger and worth using. So….we’ll just have to see. Had a fun duel tonight with my ele friend. He used dagger warhorn and I used GS/staff, me using Soul reaping, Death Magic, and the reaper line. Was fun, fought for 15 minutes and eventually called it a draw because we couldn’t kill each other because of our sustain. And I made him run off point a lot during that fight.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hot-new-legendary-weapons/
“rather than take the time to develop the full set before releasing any of them, we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game”
4 months, no news – how is that a regular interval? For kitten’s sake..

Just seems like ANET keep on biting off more than they can chew. I mean, heck look at the hype surrounding HoT, they gave a release date about 6 months ahead of time but just kept giving us nibblets of information every few weeks, with extra padding in statements. Reminds me of writing a paper really.
