Glider Suggestions? Share Them Here!

My sincere suggestion about Gliders is please don’t make it put a prompt on top of my character every time I fall for longer than a second telling me how to glide. It’s really annoying. At least let me disable it.

Can we make HoT UI elements less intrusive?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

There’s multiple UI elements related to the expansion that really, really agitate me a lot as they are often superfluous and get in the way for no justifiable reason, given that they can’t be disabled.

I don’t need a prompt essentially replacing my character’s model telling me how to glide every time I fall longer than literally 1 second. I already know how to glide. I’m pretty sure the game tells you how to glide when you first unlock gliding, and that’s the only time it needs to tell you how to glide. The game should not be constantly pushing information for new players onto players’ screens who are not new.

I don’t need a level-up prompt for obtaining a Mastery point. I’m not stupid. I know what I just did. I don’t need an icon gyrating and flashing on top of my map for no reason other than to tell me I obtained a Mastery point. At least change the “OK” button to say “No kitten, Sherlock” so it is more accurate. Do we need inane level up prompts that demand your attention until you manually dismiss them for “You just viewed a Vista,” “You just unlocked a Waypoint?”

While I understand the need to inform the player when x or y object they have not seen before is related to a Mastery trait, again, putting an obnoxious pop up thing on my screen that I must manually dismiss is an obnoxious way to do it.

I want to feel like if I am not new to this game and I have a basic understanding of what the game systems are even if I don’t have access to them at this time, that the game will not torment me constantly with tutorial-esque popups. But that is not how I feel, and that is exactly what the game does. Please give us some kind of option to reduce or remove these inane elements, or at least consider grilling the person responsible for them because this is the most frustrated any MMO UI has ever made me. It’s disruptive when this nonsense pops up on my screen constantly during average play even though I neither need nor want them.

Can anyone really see through the clutter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

One of the projects we’re working on in preparing the game to release in new regions is trying to make the game easier to learn. While a lot of that work is in the area of better tutorials, better level up messaging guides, and unique tutorials for specific mechanics we’re also evaluating UI complexity (and system complexity) to try and make information easier to see/consume.

Cleaning up the existing UI systems to make them less cluttered, more-stream lined, and better unified is part of this project and absolutely something you’ll see in the west as well, likely around or possibly even before we release the game in our next major world region.

And to get ahead of the next question: No, we have no solid dates! We’re still in beta in China and are testing and developing all of these new systems to make the game is easier to learn. We haven’t announced timelines for development any other major regions other than being in Beta in China at this time.

What about extremely dense particle/spell effects, even on minimum settings? This one is a way, way bigger culprit than the UI in my opinion and a way more critical issue.

Why are traits roman numerals and not images?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

there is no argument against the utility using roman numerals brings to the ease of communication about builds.

so icons are prettier? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say no kitten, but anyone who’s ever looked up a build on these forums would pretty swiftly agree that the functionality >>>>>>>> looking pretty.

the fact that you are so adamant about having pictures instead of numerals is kind of funny, really, especially with your argument that it’s “lazy” when it has very much everything to do intentionally with contributing to the ease of communication.

they do not let you reorganized the weapon bars for the same reason—so that dagger 4 is always the same skill. “dagger 4” is significantly easier on average for players to remember than “Dancing Dagger,” which some people may not immediately identify because people do not always look at the skill names very closely.

same for traits. strength IV is always strength IV. nobody has to remember “that picture of a screaming dude, which warriors have 17 of.” that said i don’t even know what the name of strength IV for warrior is, but if I looked at a build and it says “pick strength IV” i would be able to figure it out many times faster than trying to find the name of that trait in the tree, of which there are three subsets per traitline.

1) No, not really. Doing something with current lands keeps activity within the game even. Expanding maps causes player spread and content degeneration. It’s not a good thing at all (just look at Outland and the Wrath zone from WoW as examples of such).

Yeah, because they’re totally not deserted due to the fact that they are old content that isn’t at the level cap.

Honestly, spreading the userbase isn’t a good justification for content stagnation.

the only reason stealth is annoying in PvP is because the game has a tendency to not show the thief as visible as soon as they appear like they ought to, so you have a whole lot of thieves popping in and out of stealth at seemingly rapid intervals, much more so than they actually are.

but I haven’t even done sPvP in a while so I have no idea if the game still does this.

this encounter reeks of artificial difficulty. no cues for anything at all; in any other MMO encounter with complex raid-style mechanics, here is almost always some form of cue for when something strong is coming.

the HP bar in GW2 is ambiguous, there’s no percentages displayed, the boss makes almost no noise at all, much less noise that would cue phase changes or strong attacks being initiated…

it would be one thing for this fight to be hard, but instead of just feels poorly and/or lazily designed and inferior to the standard other MMOs set. (which is really too bad, because this is the first boss I’ve even encountered that resembles the complexity that other MMOs’ PvE offers.)

“Living Story” plays like a content patch, not an expansion.

This is also ignoring that expansions usually coincide with a lot of gameplay changes, class balancing, additions to class’ toolsets, new features in general, etc.

And ignoring that expansions give the player a -lot- of content to go through at a time and living story has so far had a tendency to give very little. “Living Story” as it is presented has yet to get me to want to log in for more than a day or two.

2. No one should see your account name until you add them to friends. They party userface kind creeps me out.

3. When someone wants to add you to friends, IT SHOULD ASK YOUR PERMISSION before they are allowed to see your account name and every toon you log on.

I use my friends list to catch botters. If I see someone acting suspiciously I add them to friends list and if they start teleporting to nearby nodes I find their name on my friends list and report them. If these changes would be made catching botters would be so much harder.

ANet has seemed to have been doing a pretty good job at catching botters—but beyond that, automated video game playing is way, way less important than human safety.

Maybe I’m missing something, but we’re talking about ‘stalking’ in-game?
Why is this an issue?
This isn’t the real world, they don’t know you, they just follow some pixels in game. There is nothing they can do to you, or your character, except annoy you, and that’s only if you let them.

Just go about your daily business as though they’re just another random npc or something – worrying about this stuff, or giving any sort of feedback to people like that (i.e. saying “leave me alone” or “stop following me”) only gives these people the attention they want, and lets them know that they have an effect on you.
Just ignore them, they’ll get bored and go away.

you heard it here—harassment on the internet doesn’t matter. Because, yes, a real life stalker could totally not stalk you over the internet.

Some objects difficult to melee

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

Getting melee to properly autoattack on some objects is obnoxious because said objects have bizarre hit boxes or something of this nature, so the game thinks you’re out of range.

Skills that move you a lot like Heartseeker will often miss on objects that are right in front of you.

Some of the biggest culprits for this are tall objects like gates. This has been an issue since beta if I recall correctly and it strikes me as a somewhat major one. It makes an element of the game needlessly tiresome and makes the game appear poorly constructed (which frankly, this part -is-.) Worse yet, I know I and others have reported this issue many times before and it continues to be ignored.

Is this ever going to get any dev attention?

Is Pistol/Pistol viable for sPvP/PvE?

in Thief

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

Guys, come on. It’s very obvious that Pistol MH does extremely subpar damage. It’s also very obvious that this is due the fact that #1 doesn’t fire as rapidly as it is supposed to due either to a bug/mislabeled tooltip or to animation/GCD issues.

I really, really don’t understand how this isn’t more obvious to people. I immediately noted that something was off after spending a lot of time as a rifle warrior and then starting a thief. The firing speed is almost exactly the same on the two weapons even though Vital Shot is significantly weaker, with shorter duration bleeds and closer range than Bleeding Shot; the former is very clearly intended to be faster. If you don’t believe me, here:

Bleeding Shot:
Damage – 155
Bleeding – 6 seconds
Range – 1200 yards
Activation (tooltip) – 3/4 second
Actual Recast – .8 – .9 seconds

Vital Shot:
Damage – 134
Bleeding – 4 seconds
Range – 900 yards
Activation (tooltip) – 1/2 second
Actual Recast – .8 – .9 seconds

i can’t believe you’re still going on about this.

okay it’s not fast enough. just say it’s not fast enough, don’t assert a bunch of nonsense as truth that isn’t at all relevant to saying “pistol 1 should be faster”

you could see his “de-stealth” effect(black transparent rings) -> stealth again(no effect like Blinding Powder etc),sometimes Shadow Refuge(but this was instant under big aoe fire)

is there a way to get the player name from chat log ?

It doesn’t matter because it’s not a cheat, it’s just utilizing what Arenanet has provided. If you don’t perform an action while you are stealthed, you do not get the cooldown from going stealth.

You can post about it on the Thief forums if you think it should be different (probably,) but calling it a cheat or a bug and acting like people who do it need to be reported is not going to get you any respect for your opinion.

ANet needs to fix the rendering issues ASAP. There’s no point in changing stealth until then, because no one knows how thief stealth actually works until it’s working properly.

A Thief can perma-stealth by using Cloak and Dagger only while they are unstealthed. IE, attack someone with CnD, wait for stealth to fall off, use CnD again, immediately restealth. It’s not a rendering issue—Thieves are actually able to remain stealthed 90% of the time+ using this technique so long as they regenerate enough initiative to continue using it (between that and utilities to fill gaps, anyway) and as long as they do not attack while they are stealth, as doing so incurs the stealth cooldown.

It’s not a mystery.

Why MH Pistol Feels Weak

in Thief

Posted by: lethlora.1320

lethlora.1320

If you compare it to the Warrior’s Rifle, the obvious design intent was for it to be much weaker but much faster. In actuality, it’s much weaker without being much, if any, faster.

This logic only holds true if you were talking exclusively about one class, which we aren’t. The balance of Warrior and Thief is totally different. If you had a warrior who could use rifles and pistols, then yes, the obvious intent (which is still an assumption, there’s not hard and fast rule that this is how it must work) is that the rifle is slower and more powerful and the pistol is faster and less powerful. However, we’re talking about Thieves vs. Warriors here, who have very different resources and utilities at their disposal. It’s more about “this is a thief with a gun” and “this is a warrior with a gun” since neither of them can use both of those weapons.

Yes, thief pistol needs love, but this comparison isn’t terribly meaningful or constructive, much less asserting (vehemently) that something is bugged when it has nothing to do with bugs.

That said, the value is cast time. It doesn’t say anything about recovery time.
